Re: Sign him up...Brown deserves it

He is right at home in defence, and proved that over the last couple of weeks - he is wasted in the forward line IMO.

Unless he wants to leave, Hawks will be crazy not to give him a 2 or 3 year deal. Browny is a hard nut that you simply cannot replace!

Re: Sign him up...Brown deserves it

BROWN along with HODGE is the heart and soul of this club. Let's repay BROWN for his loyalty with a 3 yr contract ASAP. You cannot draft players with his courage and loyalty.

I can tell you now that I know of 2 very very loyal members who will NOT re-sign as members next year if this great man moves north and you can add me to that list.

I can think of a few players out there today on long contracts less deserving of a 3 year deal. SIGN HIM NOW HAWKS!!!!!!!!!

agree totally,

players with the heart and soul of hodge n brown only come along every so often and you would b a fool to let them slip away!

personally i was worried about the rumours that he would leave but after watching him closely the last few weeks and against melb. his body language, passion and attack on the ball does not suggest he is going any where. he looks hungry at the hawks and a proud and passionate player!

The tackling intensity of Hooper, Rioli, etc., in the forward line releases Brown to play in the backline, imo.

The man is a an-all australian defender. The backline is where he belongs. And it is also where he prefers to play.

Give him a 2 year deal with an option for a 3rd year

Re: Sign him up...Brown deserves it

There's obviously the possibility that the club won't offer him a contract because it can't...

I bloody hope not but surely he would have signed by now

I agree with everything in the thread, been fantastic - 2 years seems fair.

The part that worries me is highlighted, Gold Coast speculation seems firmly attached to Browny and I haven't seen the posters that seem to be in the know say otherwise.

Brownie himself said the rumors about the gold coast are absolute crap and he is just coming out of contract at the wrong time. he loves hawthorn and doesnt want to play anywhere else, he wants a two or three year deal, and all his other contracts have been signed at the end of the year, and he doesnt expect anything different for this year.

Re: Sign him up...Brown deserves it

he was quoted as saying he wants to stay at hawthorn on the footy show.

Saying the club just wanted to get by the big guns like franklin and rough first and the b graders like him come after.

Totally humble.

You will never find a more fiercely loyal and dependable individual outside of a staffordshire pitbull.....you can draw your own conclusions.

you can teach someone to kick but you cant give them the heart of a lion.

PURE COURAGE.

Re: Sign him up...Brown deserves it

The passion this guy brings to the park can't be coached, it's in his brown and gold blood, stupidity if they don't re-sign him. Hope he can jump over GC's cheque book.

Re: Sign him up...Brown deserves it

must say... he has made our defence look a hell of a lot better since his been back there... WHICH releases the great hodgey into the midfield... and i think he gives stratton more confidence too!

BROWN IS ONE OF OUR BEST BACKS!!! KEEP HIM THERE

Re: Sign him up...Brown deserves it

I will be terribly disappointed if the Browndog doesn't get an appropriate contract to re-sign with us. The way he attacked the ball on the weekend was ferocious, just what we need!

My concern with all this is that posters' seem to be of the attitude that the club is in the driving seat and only has to make a fair offer and Browny will re-sign.

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink.

like all the other articles about his contract (exept for the ones that he was actually questioned in) this article is pure speculation with the only actual hard facts brownie saying all his other contracts have been signed at the end of the year.

Re: Article - Brown stalls Hawk talks

Should we be worried?

No.

Its just another beat up & nothing else by the sun's jon ralph who is obviously looking for a story.

2 weeks ago the sun (using the same photo) reported brown wanted to stay at the hawks and was looking for a 2-3 yr contract.

Interestingly that story finished with:

Campbell Brown said:
He said he has never signed a contract so early in the season, and generally waits until later in the year.

"My three or four other contracts that I have signed have been done towards the end of the year, and I would expect nothing to change," he said
.
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/a...de-on-his-future/story-e6frf9jf-1225867225499

So what has suddenly changed in the last 2 weeks, NOTHING - his actions seem entirely consistent with this.

And as he is having a good season (I think top 5 in B&F so far) why wouldn't he wait until later in the year so that he can negotiate his best possible contract (as he always has).

Expect to see rehashed versions of brown leaving ever 2-4 weeks or so from here on in (especially considering journos can no longer speculate about buddy, roughy, cyril or selwood and abblett going is really starting to become boring).

My concern with all this is that posters' seem to be of the attitude that the club is in the driving seat and only has to make a fair offer and Browny will re-sign.

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink.
I wonder what room up our sleeve we have for contract renewal.

Some here suggest that 3 years should be offered, but I wonder if anything under that is acceptable to Brown.

Because if you go 'cap in hand' at the end of the queue, you only get what's left?

We are under a salary cap.

Has anyone considered thet Brownie might be spinning the coasters a line to put them off approaching our other players ?

Theres no clue in his performance this year that he is leaving.

Dont underestimate the love our guys have for the club. One even spent 2 years in freo for the cause.

BTW which players are out of contract ? - if its just Brown, then my theory is shot

My concern is that none of them fully understand the situation or financial placement of the club in consideration to the salary cap and the incoming teams and as such aren't qualified to comment other than "WE <3 BROWN"

i said the same thing in another thread.
he's not leaving, he wouldnt leave.
i'd rather believe brownie's word than some jurno looking for a story.

I would doubt it - he's after security now as this is most likely his last bite at the cherry, or big bite anyhow.

Fair enough - he's got to be loyal to himself before anyone else and there is no way we can match anything GC17 has to offer.

I just fear the inevitable backlash that will hit the club when/if this eventuates, it's not necessarily the club's fault but people will go feral anyhow.

However, I'm just enjoying Browny's year so far - he's going well isn't he?

At a guess, he’ll be able to fetch almost double what we can offer. Can we front load a bit of his contract, with the option of a 3rd year. That may persuade him.

What is he worth - $250-400k? Can we afford that? Probably, maybe, maybe not.

What would GC offer, $500-600k? With 3 years.. He is loyal & loves the joint so that is going to be one hard decision.

Hope he stays, we need him.

I think our list management is a bit more professional than contracts are just dished out until nothing is left.

And do you think your logic applies to abblett as well?

The fact is brown loses nothing by waiting later in the season (and I don't mean at the end of the year) to negotiate his contract especially considering he is having a much better year than last and he also potentially has a number of other suitors.
