I would doubt it - he's after security now as this is most likely his last bite at the cherry, or big bite anyhow.

Fair enough - he's got to be loyal to himself before anyone else and there is no way we can match anything GC17 has to offer.

I just fear the inevitable backlash that will hit the club when/if this eventuates, it's not necessarily the club's fault but people will go feral anyhow.

However, I'm just enjoying Browny's year so far - he's going well isn't he?
He's been fantastic.

I hear what you're saying about security and what we can offer.
Especially in terms of who else might feel the squeeze should we try to counter even a little of what GC can offer Brown.

It's good to see so much love for Browny considering his position was beeing questioned by a few posters. Pre season, some couldn't find a spot for him in our best 22:confused:

With Brown putting contract negotiations on hold till season's end, it's not a flash sign for him re-signing. I think he's just holding out till the right offer comes on the table. There's going to come a time when one of these players, tempting fate with the Gold Coast, will hold out a little too long and get injured. slashing their value by heaps. Touch wood it's not Browny.

Personally, if I was Gold Coast, I would be going after someone much younger.

They dont need any more youth elbow. They have had and have plenty of picks in the draft for youth. Browny would be a great example to the young GC boys on how to stand in a game of AFL.

Re: Sign him up...Brown deserves it

Had he played all year down back i reckon we could have won few more games. His having a good year... deserves to be resigned

The backline is in a worse state than it was in 2008 when the cluster was introduced to protect it. Brown is essential back there.

Re: Article - Brown stalls Hawk talks

Much the same story was in the NT News today. Somewhat abbreviated, but almost verbatim and without any HUN / Jon Ralph accreditation (they are both News Ltd.). I'd link but it isn't on their website and it says nothing new anyway.

I don't even know why I bothered to mention it, except perhaps, off topic, to warn you all of judgement day... contract talks with Brownie might not matter at all.

Cops investigate NT UFO invasion

A FULL-SCALE alien invasion of the Northern Territory has begun.

Be afraid.

It said he would be worth a 3rd rounder?

How the **** would that be?

He is always finishing well in B & F. He has an AA behind him.

He would be fairly well paid in our TPP.

He should at least be 2nd round if not 1st. Think if we were trading him, it would be a pick 13-19 that he would be traded for IMO.

FFS it doesnt seem like fair compo. I hope they throw in a t-shirt and a hat.

It'll be a GC17 t shirt and hat if they do throw them in :(

Hopefully the tough nut stays, we saw the support for him when there was an outcry last year when speculation arose about Browny being traded to lure Burgers, and just how quickly the club acted to douse the speculation.

Would be great if the club could continue playing the way it did against the blues last week, and then come out after the midseason break and knock off a few real competitors as the lure of another premiership might just be enough to convince him to stay.

Remember five 2 fifty- we've got at least another premiership coming up soon :D

Re: Sign him up...Brown deserves it

The man is a an-all australian defender. The backline is where he belongs. And it is also where he prefers to play.

Give him a 2 year deal with an option for a 3rd year

My thoughts exactly...2 with a 3rd option...Is his father his manager? If not, who is?
He will no doubt "sell" Brown to the highest bidder, and unfortunately that won't be us!!
I too believe that we would lose quite a few members if he is not signed up.You all know the outcry when he was put up for trade, (or supposedly)..

This man bleeds brown and gold. I think I would spew if I saw him in any other colours!!! :-(

It's the AFL rules. GC get to poach any single uncontracted player from any / all of the other clubs. The club gets an extra third round pick plus financial compensation in return.

Well they should have an independant board that has a created criteria which makes compensation as fair as possible.

If Gary Ablett leaves Geelong, they deserve two first round selections. One in the top 5.

If Campbell Brown leaves Hawthorn I say we deserve a late first rounder.

Don't penalise GC for this, just give the compensation picks in future drafts that are worth something. Not a 3rd rounder, that is a disgrace. How can people running a professional comeptition allow this?

Money is ok compensation, but we would much prefer a quality draft selection. As would everyoone apart from Melbourne, North Melbourne, or Dogs.

Potential compensation is irrelevant as far as I'm concerned. Bottom line is keep Browny.

Thats just naive.

I would offer Brown a two year contract. Not three.

Money well he is in the rankings of players 8-11 so he would be on that money.

Cat 1
Franklin
Hodge
Cat 2
Burgoyne
Mitchell (slightly more due to captain)
Roughead
Cat 3
Rioli
Sewell

Cat 4
Brown, Lewis, Gibson, Birchall

What is the weakest link in our team (apart from injuries to rucks)?

The backline.

Arguably Brown is our best backman this year.

He has been a loyal clubman and you cannot recruit that type of dedication to the contest.

We shouldn't give him 3 years for the sake of it, we should give him 3 years because he richly deserves it.

Brown is an irreplaceable player and will definitely be in our best 22 for the next few years.

Thats just naive.

Why?

So where's the spanner?

According to a Herald-Sun article, the matrix the AFL have set out for GC would only be a 3rd round pick for Brownie.

.......Increasing its frustration is that under the proposed AFL compensation formula, Brown would likely be worth only a third-round pick.

Why?

So where's the spanner?

It is naive to not even talk about fair compensation. Fair enough you want Campbell to stay, however reading between the lines it is a very high chance he will leave. Therefore you should be able to discuss compensation, or at the very least, not dismiss it.

I would offer Campbell two years as that is what he is worth at a 27 year old player. I think exceptional players at 27 years of age deserve three years. Campbell is not exceptional. Good, yes.

I add Bateman to the 8-11 which is now a 8-12 list. Look that group may have the required money to sign Brown. However I think Campbell is going to get an offer of 450ish a year at GC (because they can). That is too hard to match and would mean he is in a Roughead/Burgoyne type group when he is more Gibson/Birchall type.

Thats just my opinion. Time will tell, however I put my Bigfooty account on the line early 2009 that Campbell WOULD be a GC signing. That was in the heat of the moment, however I think we are less than 50% of keeping him.

It is naive to believe fair compensation for losing Brown is possible under the circumstances, therefore I believe our efforts would be better spent getting the offer to him right. I think it's naive to believe the media's take on things, as they haven't taken a trick yet. I think it's naive to render Brown's love of the club as irrelevant on the basis of some whispers a few known media "rain-makers" claim to have heard. I think it's naive to believe that angling for compensation for Brown rather than concentrating on retaining his services isn't a bigger threat of becoming a self fulfilling prophecy than it's potential benefit is worth.

Disagreed.

So if it comes down to us having to match the offer, we'll lose. I don't think it will.

I've seen nothing anywhere to convince me you are a good gambler.;)
