AFLW 2024 - Round 6 - Chat, game threads, injury lists, team lineups and more.
Welcome friend. If it's our home game then southern stand end.Hi All
First post of hopefully many!
Does anyone know which side of the MCG our cheer squad will likely sit on for the Melbourne game next week? Flying into Melbs and looking to see my first game at the G!
Heheh. Snap!
Whatever happened to having a run and finding some touch in the twos after being out for an extended period?
AFL is incredibly demanding on the mind and body, is it really the best way to handle conditioning of athletes to be playing the top level straight up?

I think it shows how much we think of some of the guys playing already.Whatever happened to having a run and finding some touch in the twos after being out for an extended period?

Anyone else find it interesting Voss mentioned Marchbank and Martin as potential ins next week. Thought they were still a couple off
Still better than Young.Marchbank definitely should come back via the twos - he usually is like deer in the headlights with ball in hand first game back - needs a week or two in the VFL to get back in the groove.
I honestly think there's a massive difference that Geelong is exploiting in playing purely older players. While all the 'Dad's army' jokes make sense in a traditional sense - players past 30 are on borrowed time - even their younger players have a greater understanding of their game and greater experience, as well as more practice knowing where and how everything fits together. Where younger players panic, their older wiser heads know when to hold onto the ball or when to go fast; they know when to take on the tackle and when to let the ball spill free.interesting stat on on the couch last night….
Cats went to each of their forwards about the same number of times (4-5).
Whereas we predominantly went to Charlie and H (~17/18 times) and very infrequently to our other forwards (~4-5 times).
It’s not like Hawkins and Cameron are spuds. They’ve got a very effective forward attack strategy and it’s not rocket science.
And on an interesting side note - Lyon mentioned that clubs tending towards more mobile forwards (his segment “are forwards getting shorter”).
When will our coaches/players realise that we need a more thoughtful strategy for our f50 entries.
Geelong don't keep injury prone players and have been excellent in not only getting excellent players that fit - but also cutting players whose bodies are suspect. Disciplined list management and they pay up for quality when required. That is all a function of a well run Club that has coaching consistency.I honestly think there's a massive difference that Geelong is exploiting in playing purely older players. And they know when to lower the eyes, when to bang it in, or when to kick to dangerous space.
Yep... massive congrats to the weapon. He does need to write an instructional book about how to punch above your weight thoughCongrats Lachie!

Geelong have dabbled with risky players...the rest sounds right. Well managed club.Geelong don't keep injury prone players and have been excellent in not only getting excellent players that fit - but also cutting players whose bodies are suspect. However the rubber band can only stretch so far - last year saw injuries keep them ( the reigning premier) out of finals- this year it is early days still - their relevance will be determined by player availability 0- just like everyone else but I think with more risk attached on the downside.
As for their forward entries- again - a well coached team with players who are generally a cut above in terms of kicking skill and they are all extremely well drilled - just like Collingwood

What Cranbourne has been crying out for.. More houses..Fraser Brown’s company bought Cranbourne golf course for $190 million. Plan to develop 1500 houses.
Ranfurlie?!
It's actually the Cranbourne Golf Club about 5km north of Cranbourne on the east side of the South Gippy Hwy.Former AFL star pays $190m for Cranbourne Golf Course
The 70-hectare site in Melbourne’s south-east will support up to 1500 new homes with an end value of about $1 billion.www.afr.com
"Cranbourne Country Club" it says in artlcle
site bought for 20,000 pounds in the 1950s
Reckon Ol Frase has been doing well for a very long time. It's actually the Cranbourne Golf Club about 5km north of Cranbourne on the east side of the South Gippy Hwy.
Fraser also was heavily involved in buying and redeveloping (as in building a truck load of houses) on the old Amstel Golf Club which was closer to town on Frankston Rd. The Old Amstel club moved up the road a bit to Ranfurlie. Must have done pretty well out of it because he's backing up again.
