Here’s a scenario for you the club don’t sack Richo which I think would be a huge mistake but we head into next season with him at the helm.

Now we really did have a tough draw plus loosing Bruce and Roberton hurt us, so Richo leads us in and with blokes back and a couple of recruits we actually win some games maybe 10.

What does the club do now? Does he really have a trigger of finals or bust?.

This is ugly now and could easily stay ugly and messy, just drop the hammer and move forward.

it makes sense why they would tbh

the development system is one of the worst in the league, so if you are in the lower-middle tier it could quite seriously affect your career

plus it just means 2019 is going to full of speculation. it will kill another trade period. new coach coming in will require a season to right the ship at a minimum, so thats 24 months written off, which means if you are in the upper tier, you want out to play finals.

plus any new coach could mean delisting if they dont see a need for you

i was told there's a trigger that he needs finals to go into 2020 but if he gets close to it and they want him to remain, if he misses they will still honor it

thats 100% take it to the bank

i've done that, so have plenty of others. its not going to change their minds.

their plan has holes in it the size of our premiership drought. all because they dont have the stones to take risks. happy to drive straight off the oncoming cliff, because they're too scared about turning left or right incase there's a bigger cliff.

The thing i worry about now - we have no stars. Throughout our history we've always had some stars in our team. Real characters and genuine elite stars of the game. At the moment we have none.

Yes.......that's painfully obvious to us all right now Mikka84...…….but maybe I'm too much of an optimist.

We'll have them again.....it's just at this point it's not obvious who they are...…..it will be very interesting looking back in 2-4 years(and time sure flies) and see just who they are.

Assuming that we'll lose no one of note...……..players that come to mind are:

Gresh
Billings
Membrey
Acres
Marshall
Steele

I'm also assuming that the new assistants will give these guys a new "lease of life" given their backgrounds and past experience….I mean...how could it not given who we had mentoring them before!

Of course this may not eventuate and who else may jump out …..we just don't know.

It's a perceptive comment. I don't think Richo is the guy for us moving forward, but if you're him (Richo) and you're trying to justify keeping your job, it's not that hard. Retrospectively the hardest draw in the league. 4 games from Robbo, 3 from Bruce, 2 from Koby. Robbo and Bruce are leadership and ex-leadership group guys. Paddy played a bunch but completely underdone.

We'll have no way of knowing next year whether the coaching has picked up, or if it's just better draw and not injuries.

The other key question is who Spook will leave the dugong pics with after he leaves.

thanks for the info mate, i heard he would be but that was a while back now and i know there's another club now looking for a footy boss and list manager. footy boss role could be going to a board member though, but they still have the list manager role to fill

Surely Richo could not make it to year 7 without finals? That would unfathomable.

I'm not talking about defectors - but the younger generation that see a side lose constantly.

That's a very big concern of mine...….the younger ones(our future supporters) generally want to be associated with a winning side.

Once the side starts winning consistently again.....and who knows when that will be..... the younger ones will notice.

What really caught my eye at the open training session at RSEA back in July was the sheer number of kids running around in Saints colours.....it was the school holidays granted but our future supporters(hopefully) were out in force that afternoon.
