Analysis The Coach – Simon 'Standard Practice' Goodwin: It's time to go (for real this time)

The players need to accept some responsibility for this too . Goodwin is living in 2021 ,but too many players appear to be running around happy to get a pay cheque . i also wonder if some of the younger players are pissed off with other players being picked on the back of no form or not even being required to front up for Casey . That's on the coach too .

Yeah no chance he’ll be sacked during the season. But surely there’s some chance at end of season if this crap keeps up. Probably take Roffey and or Pert to go though.

Wouldn't be shocked to see the club look at a succession plan perhaps end of this season. Bring someone in as an assistant next year, then in 2026 they run game days, then full take over from 2027.

Succession plans only work if the coach wants to finish up. Don't see Goodwin being that guy.

Glad Goody didnt reveal anything about our offensive game plan last week when asked in his presser. We got 2 of our 7 goals in the first 5 mins before Freo figured it out. Secrecy the big winner today.

Did anyone actually watch the presser and want to share some highlights? I'm guessing something along the lines of "that wasn't us. That didn't look like a Melbourne game. We are working incredibly hard on all aspects of our game...."
Not up yet, you better believe im waiting for it. Always look forward to my weekly yell at the monitor.

I 100% do see Goody being that guy. With everything he's copped the last few years and seeing the type of person he is, I could totally see him planning a steady departure.

What's an offensive game plan?

Yep, I can only think of Roos of both occasions and maybe worsfold at Essendon. Any other succession plan has been a disaster.
At the end of the day it's pretty pointless to tell your coach that you don't believe they are your future but you want them to hang around for a couple more years so you don't have to pay out their contract.

Not if it's the coach's idea or want.

I feel like he's just such a competitive and headstrong person who throws all of himself into what he does. Reckon he'd back himself to get us right for better or worse. If we told him to keep the seat warm for the next guy I think he'd pull a Clarko.

That was the point of my first post. If Goodwin said he wanted to call it a day of course it would be fine. I just don't see him doing that.

Media guy should do us all a solid and put "Goodwin head explosion emoji" into his AI image generator for the thumbnail.

And the point of my reply to that was to say I could very much say him doing that...

Going in circles here. But responded to that post also.

We're just guessing about his personality but I think we agree that it would have to be Goodwin who makes the call.

Yep, agreed on that, and history says it doesn't work if the coach isn't at least 100% on board.
