Analysis The Coach – Simon 'Standard Practice' Goodwin: It's time to go (for real this time)

Look. I get both the points. The talent on the list has it. We have the talent. In the next 2 years we could win one. But not the way we’re coached. Too defensive. Too slow with the ball. Gives our forwards no hope. Get a fresh set of ideas and energy in.

Edit - also bring in some younger guys. Don’t play the likes of BBB and Hunter again.

these are not players that play multiple games in strong teams.

Can we change the thread title to:

The Coach – Simon Goodwin: It's time... to dig into the why

What “Wearnings” did goody bags say this week ? We need a large scale change top to bottom from president, coach to assistants, no senior assistant sucking up $$$ holding this campaigners hand, so that we don’t have a ****ing ex ruckman as our fwd coach ffs.
Honestly we won’t see a change this year unfortunately.
Maybe next year 🤞

I watched the second half of the presser on 2x speed, Goody for once didn't come across as a smug corpse.

Made it much more amusing. Would recommend.

Who'd be the best current available coaching options out there if Goody did leave at the end of the year?

I want Bucks or Craig Jennings back.

BBB - Cooked should have retired.

Hunter - Cooked

Sparrow - Out of touch. At this long probably more a role players being asked to play in the middle a bit. Hasn’t developed though.

McAdam - If he can get fit and we start moving the ball properly forward. He’ll be an asset.

Billings - More of a guy who will make a difference on the outside of a functioning side. We are not functioning.

Disco - A defender. Play him back. Even if that’s VFL.

Petty in current form - See Disco.

the time for new coaches and ideas was two years ago, but we arrogantly sat on our hands since the premiership waiting for another one to fall into our lap.
The club is so terrified of becoming shit again that they have gone overboard on stability, meanwhile that same stability has sent us well on our way to becoming shit again.

Would love to see Jennings have a crack at the top job. Does he go for them?
Think he might have had some interest and possibly interviewed with someone after 2018. But I could be remembering that wrong and it might have just been media talking him up for a certain job.

Get Bucks on the phone FFS! Need a pure sweep of this coaching panel. As much as i didn't like him on the field, I actually don't mind Bucks off it. Tassie is circling. The time to act is now.

TBH, Crows will be most likely looking for a coach next season. So perfect timing for Goody to f* off back to SA!

No coach is winning anything with the way our off season recruiting has been these past 3 seasons.
Agreed. Just dreadful recruiting. Massive fail not being able to recruit a couple of decent forwards and a decent back up ruck. Meek was there and we went for Grundy. Pies get Mitchell, McStay and Hill then win the flag with all 3 playing huge roles. Trusted in the list far too much when history suggests you simply have to keep topping up the list with quality to have a crack at multiple flags. Horrible list management which hasn't helped.

Just occured to me, when Goodwin swung TMac forward , he pushed Turner and Fritsch to the backline but kept premiership defender/2 possession forward Harrison Petty in the forward line....strong must always have at least 2 KPF duds in the F50 dna method.

That's really pissed me off now I thought of it.

Yes but those 3 were only ever going to one club. Players basically say which club they want to go to. We’ve had that moment ourselves when picking May, Lever, Langdon. There’s no denying we recruited well for a flag.

I don't agree with that. Strong teams can have crap at the bottom end, strong teams don't pay 1.2 million to a fat crack head to get progressively worse every year
Strong teams don't have their 2 best players at 33 and 32
Strong teams have flexibility, they don't just play the same 18 blokes in the same position every week with no consequence of form or standards.

We desperately need a 2019 like collapse this year to get out of this mess. Need some quality picks before Tassie come in and the place to fall apart to bring about change. Lose em all please.
