We have improved durability, no doubt. Hopefully our youth will be strong enough to provide depth as well. Also offloaded some project types so we should have more AFL ready players available more often.

We have young guys who need to play AFL to improve now. If they play those games, who knows.

Thats not how it really works

Drafted in 2021, played no or limited games in 2022-23, Sinn, Lohmann, Dempsey, Sheldrick, Aleer, Knewitt, Sonsie, Roberts, Soligo, etc. Sure, there will always be kids that hit the ground running like Walsh, Smith, O Hollands, and even Cowan, but its not a given

Like many other sides, we aren't in a rebuild where the focus is on development and or fast tracking youth, we are in win mode

I understand people might really like some of our youth, they may even know or are related to players, but I sense this ongoing narrative about will Voss trust and or give the kids a go, seems somewhat strange, almost bordering on an agenda

Hopefully all our youth continue to develop and knock down the door for selection, but we also need to give them a great grounding to succeed

100%. Some kids need time and some are just ready

Never pigeon hole anyone because of age. It’s naive. Did Sam Walsh need time?

Watch how many first year kids debut in the first couple of rounds this year amongst all AFL clubs.

Names like Lord Smith Ollie Wilson O’Keefe Moir are ready to go if there is a spot. I get the impression even Lucas & Ben Campo would handle the step up if given a go

We are in the window NOW and some exciting kids could well be the difference

Charleson O’Farell Duffy Monahan need some time and development

So what you’re saying is there are some kids that haven’t played yet but there are some that have, yet we shouldn’t play kids because they need grounding yet some don’t and then we shouldn’t pick kids because we are on win mode even if they are good enough yet people are wanting some kids to step up and play is pushing a narrative?

Makes sense 🤔

Our kids looked really good when given an opportunity in the final two rounds of last season. Binns especially has deserved his opportunity (long overdue)

One criticism I have is the MC have been hesitant to reward players who consistently are performing in the reserves.

Smith, Binns, Lord, Moir, Wilson, Campo twins,O'Keefe, Lemmey hopefully all get opportunities at some stage this season.

I'm also about players ceilings as well. The VFL is fairly limited with it's ability to develop players. AFL is the type of football players need to learn how to play, not VFL. VFL is good for getting players to a particular level and waiting for their bodies to mature. Binns for example has gone as far as VFL can take him.

I just hope when selection calls need to be made this is considered. For instance guys like Cottrell, Fogarty, Fantasia etc are at the peak of their game and it's a pretty low level. Guys like Camporeale x2, Smith, Moir. Their celling is much much higher. Get games into them and they will bounce big time.

Opportunity for promising new blood that just need their chance to shine as opposed to defaulting to guys that haven’t been able to cut the mustard previously is the strategy and way we need to go.
The missing pieces may be right under our nose …
particularly those injury-prone guys who have now been delisted, albeit a year or two later than they should have been.
