even the so called independent national broadcaster appears to be captured by fossil fuel interests

we're so ****ed as a country
Under attack from the LNP relentlessly, now that the ALP is in charge (funded by the gas industry), they're going to double-down on the protection racket of making sure the ABC doesn't mention the alternative to the fossil fuel industry owning all of Government.

I'll vote Greens based on their stance on taxing corporations and Genocide. Those two issues far outweigh any of the fluffy differences between the ALP and LNP who are in lock-step on taxes and supplying a genocide.

There are stacks of their policies I disagree with, as well as a lot of their attitude, but none come even close to those two issues.

People don't realise how many of the country's problems would go away if we only taxed fossil fuels as much as every single other OPEC or other producer (except the oligarchies, where the leaders get the money direct through the company rather than through Govt).

I wish more people had this attitude. One doesn't have to agree with everything a party does to vote for them. The biggest factor is what they're proposing on the issues one considers to be mos important.

I doubt most people agree with everything that any party does

Jeff loves calling people un-Australian and suggesting the Greens are responsible for everything bad. Next week he'll be telling us the Greens selected Raygun as our Olympic breakdancing competitor and had the Succulent Chinese Meal guy killed.
Monarchists simping for some posh Pom to rule over us really shouldn't use the word unAustralian.

Here in the dump otherwise known as Canberra, the Greens came up with an easy and environmentally smart policy to ban cornflutes. ALP and LNP blocked it because it would be unfair on Independents and minor parties who "rely on them for candidate recognition" - of course there are now about 1000 ALP and 1000 LNP cornflutes for everyone belonging to a minor party. Greens to their credit aren't using them.

They're "corflutes".
There are just as many Independants corflutes exactly for the reason the major parties reasoned and the reason there are N o idea why there are not Grenn corflutes.
in canberra the greens will lose a lot of preferences because Bandt is a self serving obstructionist campaigner.

The greens demanding the government intervene and lower interest rates is tin pot dictatorship stuff. This is what we see in turkey and venezuela and is what trump is advocating for.
The Greens once again proving they are not a serious political party.

They do this shit with amendments all the time. Populist garbage.

I think the comparison in the article is also weak but the article clearly states its comparing bandt to Trump on his style only. Not anything else. It certainly doesn't compare him on his personal behaviour. Comparisons on specific elements unrelated to personal behaviour can be completely valid (even if this one isnt) even if their personal behaviour is completely the opposite. It's not poor form as you state. To say its poor form is a logical fallacy.
On the basis of this post, can you define logical fallacy for me?

Do you prefer high interest rates?
When we have high inflation and high housing prices then yes. We need high interest rates.

The greens say we need lower interest rates to improve housing affordability. Lower interest rates do the opposite. They boost house prices.

Erdogen in turkey intervened in central bank policy a few years ago believing low interests rates lower inflation. Not long after inflation skyrocketed to 80 percent as a result of his intervention. You think we are in a cost of living crisis with 6 per cent inflation. Well what do you think 80 per cent is?

Argentina has had a bigger problem where low real interest rates contributed to inflation reaching 250 per cent.

Australias still got inflation problems because it did not increase interest rates high enough like usa, nzl, canada etc. This was done to protect housing prices. The rba is already too influenced by politics as it is.

Rule of thumb. If trump thinks its a good idea. Its not a good idea.

What a BS response. The Greens are trying to blackmail the Treasurer into using a power that has never, EVER been used in Australia.

The political grandstanding continues. It's either good legislation, or it isn't. The Greens need to stop with this "we'll support x, if you do y" garbage, when y has nothing to do with x.

The power exists though

The bigger issues is the RBA and Government passing the buck back and forth while doing nothing

RBA is pushing people to the wall on their home loans that they know are not the cause of inflation

It is also pushing unemployment up knowing those people also are not the cause of inflation

In both cases they know the Government will do nothing to help the people impacted by the rate rises

The government knows that the RBA wants 4.5-5% of people unemployed but still pretends unemployed people just aren't trying hard enough

It knows people are ending up homeless from a combination of housing affordability and uncapped rent increases but does nothing

it knows public housing is the only thing that will fix this but instead sells public land off to developers for profit

the closest to policy we are seeing that would actually help is what Labor are doing on Queensland

Buying up vacant hotels and aged care facilities and housing people is good

cheap public transport is good

doing things that address peoples needs is good

fair chance they'll still get voted out up there and the rest of Labor will see that as proof not to do that stuff though

Why is it a BS response? If Seeds had a heap of money in the bank, for example, he might prefer higher interest rates.

The RBA have to act the way they do because government refuses to use Fiscal policy properly - Liberals insist on handing cash out left and right to their mates or themselves when they are in power - the disadvantaged get austerity, Labor are too petrified to do anything.

On top of that government refuses to address taxation. Ever. And taxation is a tool that can and should be used but never is. Again we have a situation where the Liberals want endless tax cuts whether we can afford them or not and whether we need them or not - the disadvantaged obviously miss out (stage 1 tax cuts were temporary ), and Labor are too petrified to do anything.

But the biggest problem with Adam Bandt's proposal is lower interest rates does not address the core problem at all. It does nothing to create more housing and it almost certainly increases inflation in the housing sector. The housing problem in Australia has almost nothing to do with interest rates and interest rates of 4.5% are perfectly normal and historically very low.

I don't give a shit about the greens interest rate proposal

I didn't even mention it

The RBA does what it does because its board members benefit from what its doing

They also do it because they are apparently still living in the 1980s economically where they see a direct relation between wages and inflation that doesn't exist anymore

or employment and inflation

I don't buy that Labor are petrified

they don't want to change it, they vote with the coalition on this stuff when in opposition, they vote for it when in power

people need to stop believing a single thing the ALP say and look at how they vote
