Those who said Horlin-Smith was an AFL standard footballer should be falling over themselves to get in here.

Really? He's had his chance and keeps failing to grasp it.I thought sustained good VFL form warranted him being given a chance.
And now he's had that chance.
Good luck with that mate...He is an AFL standard footballer and I'll back him in to prove doubters wrong in the coming weeks.
Today was the worst game he could have possibly played in for his first of the season. We had quite a few others who didn't give a yelp and they are a lot more experienced too.
Needs a month to get use to how his new teammates work with one another.
Sure he fumbled today.Really? He's had his chance and keeps failing to grasp it.
A nloke of his pace can't afford to fumble as much as he does... He doesn't have any tools, simply put.
Along with Bews and Ruggles, we're carrying solid VFL players at best.
And leave him in there just like we did with Kersten. GHS had plenty of mates today including 39, 32, 9, 7, 24,10, and dare I say it 35( although he did spend a lot of time on bench why?????) and on and on-as already posted only 3, 29, and 11 can hold their heads up. Players of Dangerfields experience cannot be missing goals from right in front, Coaches like Scott cannot let key players be tagged out all day, Teams who want to win Grand Finals need forward coaches who can coach. He is an AFL standard footballer and I'll back him in to prove doubters wrong in the coming weeks.

The thing is daz, he fumbles every single time he's given an opportunity.Sure he fumbled today.
But he was far from alone.
And I recall at leasat one occasion specifically where Mots got a hot one and he handballed at the feet of GHS with a Pie in his pocket.
GHD does not gather clean and is tackled and the GD thread goes off about GHS being crap.
Im just not sure what, in that case, he is supposed to do.
And if you judge today game on fumbles all but Bartel and maybe Hendo avoid getting the chop. The rest were hack merchants today.
GO Catters

I don't think we can afford to play both in the same team this season, too much of a liability; last week the senior players covered for their mistakes, not so today.Really? He's had his chance and keeps failing to grasp it.

I thought we'd beat Collingwood comfortably.
Or at all.
Or challenge them.
Ruggles has zero awareness which is a worry.I don't think we can afford to play both in the same team this season, too much of a liability; last week the senior players covered for their mistakes, not so today.
I still like one of them in the team as it frees up Enright, Guthrie and Mackie and at this stage I'm for Ruggles even though I still like Bews long term.
We did.... after that disgusting display of 30minI thought the same thing.
Granted I didn't see the game todayReally? He's had his chance and keeps failing to grasp it.

I disagree to an extent, yes today there were a few shocking lapses of concentration but he definitely wasn't alone in the 'slow reaction' department; seemed to also be a lack of communication from teammates when we had the ball and evidentially got chased downRuggles has zero awareness which is a worry.
The start of the game he was 20 metres out from goal with no opposition player within 100 metres (OK, an exaggeration) and he dribbled kicked it to Hawkins who managed to fluff a certain goal.Granted I didn't see the game today
But my issue with him is he isn't as clean as others with the ball, and thus doesn't hurt the opposition.
That is what I picked up watching him play VFL this year anyway, I had hoped he had turned the corner to get back in but it doesn't sound overly positive here at the moment

We had a couple of instances like that team wide. back yourself to kick the goal, if you don't then you don't but you don't pass to someone else unless they are well and truly on their own and in a better position. The start of the game he was 20 metres out from goal with no opposition player within 100 metres (OK, an exaggeration) and he dribbled kicked it to Hawkins who managed to fluff a certain goal.
That was the start of what was to come.
I was amazed that even being 30 odd points down we were still looking to pass while within range. We had a couple of instances like that team wide. back yourself to kick the goal, if you don't then you don't but you don't pass to someone else unless they are well and truly on their own and in a better position.
George should have backed himself. Lang had another like that.

This. Both Ruggles and Bews have looked out of their depth at times.what do you expect, he's 24 and was taken at the bottom of the barrel in the rookie draft. He's a long shot, and is it's quite incredible he even managed to break into the side and play a single game let alone consolidate the spot for good.
Well then, back to the VFL... That's what I expect if one isn't up to scratch.what do you expect, he's 24 and was taken at the bottom of the barrel in the rookie draft.
