Mitch brown to be a gun, especially after those early bags in the reserves pre-broken leg. Christensen to be an enormous loss. Nathan ablett to be better than his brother.

I thought that Gamble was going to be a star.

I thought that we got absolutely robbed in the Colbert trade.

I thought that Lonergan was finished at the end of last year.

After watching Jeff Geischen transform West Perth and then be a quality assistant at Geelong I thought that he would be a fantastic coach at Richmond.

When he won the BOG in the Reserves Grand Final, I said to Dad that it was nice that he had something to show for his missing kidney because he sure wasn't going to make it as an AFL footballer!

I plead guilty to being another Tom Gillies backer, I bought into the Scarlett hype like a few others. It was very disappointing seeing him go from best first year player in 09, to stinking the joint up when he got games for Melbourne. Also thought West would really kick on after that handy finals series in 2011, but sadly another trade to Brisbane.

I was never enamoured of the Scarlett hype, the desperation to compare every new player with a past great. But again, it wasn't that dumb a call that Gillies might make it. He played good football in 2009 and looked very settled for a new player. The problem was he never bothered to work at it after that.

Gee I should buy a house in here. Got plenty...
A few highlights..
Cam Eardley to make senior list.
Mitch brown to make it.
Cowan to make it once he got a clean run.

Hmac to work out ok in years 2 and 3.
Walker to hold down his spot.
Simon hogan to be a good 18-22 player.
Ryan gamble to hurt us at st Kilda.

There will be more..

Technically the jury is still out on the bolded. McIntosh did play good footy in 2014 for us, but his breakdown in the finals left a very sour taste.

I thought Ken Hinkley was a good coach.

I thought losing Jarrad Jansen was a mistake.

I'll be back....

Cool thread:thumbsu:

I thought MacKie was finished with his preseason performance. I thought Scarlet was the best backman going around for years and would find the ultimate success at another club!

I've got a few (maybe more) embarrassing confessions:

- In 2007 I questioned why we drafted some 21yr old from East Fremantle when we had the opportunity to draft the younger brother of Joel and double the number of Selwood's at the club.

- In the 2008 finals series, I thought we were wrong to select Varcoe ahead of Gamble.

- I didn't think Prismall would walk away from the club after doing his knee.

Gawd....Too many to list, but some:-
- I had Bomber Thompson sacked a few times.
- Thought Thurley was going to be a star.
- Thought David Haynes would make a difference.
- Thought Spinks was a great pick up.
- In 2003 on 'Cats Claw' I said we should get rid of Stevie J. He was a liablilty and would never make it. (The week I said it the next game he kicked 6 goals against Brisbane).
...and the list goes on...

Many of my worst indiscretions have already been covered by others here.

But I do distinctly recall a conversation with my Cats-loving brother in 2006 when I suggested to him that Daryn Creswell should be seriously considered to take over as coach when Bomber inevitably exited.

Great thread, by the way.:thumbsu:

Go Catters
Eardley didn't get much of an audition compared to other players of the last 3 to 5 years I thought. He should have done a shoulder or an achilles after those early good games in the VFL.

Still only 22/23 - wonder what he is up to? - quick google - 3rd in East Freo's B&F last year. Averaging 25 disposals and 4 tackles per game this year. Can play.

I genuinely thought we would win the flag in 2013 before the season started... to the point I actually saved my spare change all year to cover the cost of a grand final ticket and teed up another membership to use to try get 2 tickets...

Whilst 2 key injuries crueled us I also thought Menz and Vardy and HMac would be huge reasons for us winning :(

And then on that after Menz's last reco I thought it was time to pull the pin and that he would never ever make it back. Very happy to be wrong on that one

I thought that Lonergan was finished at the end of last year.
That reminds me, thought he'd never play after 2006. Not controversial as merely living wasn't always a surety but was very wrong and bloody glad that I was.

* I thought Nathan Ablett would turn out to be better than Gaz.
* I thought Menzel would never make it back to AFL level again.
* I thought Mark Blake was actually quite good.
* I thought Kelly would struggle after his leg break in Perth early in his career.
* I thought Lonergan was finished last season.
* I thought Cameron Ling had 1-2 years left in him.
* I thought we would miss Christensen heaps.

If people are operating at better than a 1:1 ratio (1 right for every one wrong) they are doing well.

Rightio... following Stanley's demo job on Lobbe last night, I thought this would be an interesting thread topic.

- I thought we got absolutely stiffed in the Stanley-Christensen-Pick 21 swap, and that a 24-year-old StKilda reject had nothing to offer a club with finals aspirations

- I thought Mitch Brown would be a very good AFL-standard third tall defender or Tom Lynch-style forward

- I thought there was no way we would be able to match Collingwood for the next five years following the 2010 demolition job

- I thought David Spriggs and David Clarke were the best prospects in that promising early-2000s side

- I thought Moloney and Prismall would come back to really burn us, but that Ryan Gamble would prove to be a spud.

Who else? I'm awaiting for mea culpa regarding the supposedly useless Guthrie and Blicavs...
He still might yet.

I think I may have been wrong about Scott.

I was certainly wrong about Mackie being finished... I'm sure there are a few more.

Couple of doozies:

I said we should trade or delist Ling at the end of 2006. Pretty glad we didn't.
I also said Derek Hall would win a Coleman after Ablett finished up. To be fair, I was a teenager who didn't know much...

While I still think we stuffed up Varcoe's rehab and played him injured, I thought we should have kept him on.

But again he's broken down, so the club did make the right choice in letting him go. He just doesn't stay on the park long enough to build any confidence and cohesion to a side.

I doubt the Pies will offer him another year, if indeed his contract ends at the end of this one.
