Most people have Hawthorn finishing above Geelong next season.

The GWS/Pies double is a stinger but at least GWS don't really have a fortress (so a better road trip than basically any other besides Gold Coast).

Huh? The bookies have us + GC (although I bet this will change with the draw they received) above North and WCE in the spoon odds.

it definitely feels like some geelong fans on here are trying to drum up a narrative that everyone expects them to continue sliding so when they come out and make finals again they can shout from the rooftops about how wrong these imagined figures were

Good to see Geelong hosting us at the MCG. Also it's the country festival, always a brilliant event.

My guess is most people here aren't bookies.

Sure but do you understand how the wagers of many punters influence the odds which are calculated?

we dont get invited, probably want to preserve the 90 win percent there. I personally would love to see the pies overcome the challenging drive down there, that level of adversity would hold us in good stead
Of all the bullshit posted on BF, this is the most bullshittest of all the bullshit.

Your former President lobbied the League for years to not play down at the cattery.
Sounds like fear of not getting the major benefits of a Pies Home crowd.

Can't claim to "run the League" if you don't even play all over the Country.

Adelaide play their home games in Adelaide.
Melbourne play their home games in Melbourne.
Sydney play their home games in Sydney.
Brisbane play their home games in Brisbane.
So logic says that Geelong play their home games in Geelong.
For some stupid reason people object to this.
Let's keep all the complaining in here.
Some of the reasoning behind not wanting to play Geelong in Geelong makes interesting reading.
I am absolutely fine with having to go down to Geelong. It's more that you guys don't play us at the MCG as much as we go down to Geelong. 70% of our games over the last decade or so have been in Geelong

Since 2010, i couldn't be bothered going back any further

Just for Home and Away, as that is predetermined and scheduled in. (So not including finals)
11 games at KP
4 games at the MCG
1 at Docklands.
(Edit: 12 games at KP, 3 Games at MCG if you go by original 2020 fixture)

There was even a patch where we went down there 5 times in a row and now we're coming off a patch where its been 3 times in a row.

It is what is though, Melbourne do have it pretty good in other areas of the fixture, I just have so much PTSD from that ground hahaha

Mate, go have a look at the ladder prediction thread on BF.

90% of those predictions have us finishing outside the 8 and media pundits eg Cornes, King, Montagna, Wilson have already said we are finished.

Last time that happened after 2021 Prelim we won 16 in a row and a Premiership by 81 points.

The time before that we finished outside the 8 in 2015 and people said we were done, finished 2nd on the ladder the next year.

After 2010 we got "Too Old, Too Slow" to go on and beat one of the strongest, well built teams ever 3 times in a row and win 2011.

When you've experienced Deja Vu consistently for over a decade and a half it gets pretty annoying.
People are soo desperate for a fall off to happen that they'll make ridiculous or nonsensical claims as to why it'll happen.
Heck load of backtracking over the years.

must be nice being a big Victorian club, knowing that you only play in Geelong if your team is currently s**t or geelong team is. If there's even a remote possibility fans might turn up you get to play at your home ground!
This is the AFL formula, its a joke really. I could understand when the ground only held 20 odd thousand as a lot of supporters on both sides are missing out but now that its around 40k then all clubs should have to play there at least once every year or two including the AFL's love child Collingwood.

Pies shouldn’t have to play at pissy little suburban grounds, if other venues are available. If the AFL had any balls they’d make Geelong play all their home games at MCG or Marvel. GMHBA is a s..thole.
So is it that without this advantage you feel Collingwood would go another 33 years without a flag?

I know this is the AFL so fairness doesn't come into their decision making but now that the ground is at around 40k which is a lot bigger than the ridiculous grounds in NSW and QLD, shouldn't all clubs have to do their penance at GMHBA?

THIS! There's no logical reason why this can't happen anymore.

Gabba hosted a GF with 30k and holds 36k at maximum
Should be zero reason why anyone "can't" play at the Cattery when with new stand done its holding closer to 40k.

I certainly do. If you hadn't figured it out by now, my original statement should've said "most people in the BigFooty prediction thread". I deeply apologise.

You mean the bigfooty thread where (just scanning the first two pages) Geelong has been almost unanimously (one troll post putting them as a spoon winner and two others rating Hawthorn marginally higher) thought to finish higher than Hawthorn?

Gee the second you handbaggers don't make the finals you are quick to put on the 'woe is me' act.

Truth is we don't know. Bringing up 2015 is pretty irrelevant - it's a pretty different team now. We did win the flag in 2021 but the key is we still rely on the experienced players - and they're all 2 years older. Pretending they're ageless is insane. We just don't know how much of the slack the youngsters will pick up, and how much the veterans will decline. Hopefully it's more like the first half of this year (in patches), and not the second.
