OK so apparently Geelong are reluctant to deal with us with Tim Kelly because they fear he may possibly be the missing piece to west coasts premiership hopes.

well he already nominated WC, and they ( Geelong) will have to negotiate with them whether they like it or not. Fremantle will unlikely use their their top draft picks On a mature age player.

after Chris Judd chose to leave, we had no choice but to trade him to carlton for pick 3 and Josh Kennedy. Judd wanted to do the right thing by everyone by not wanting west coast to get nothing in return
Yep, saw that headline on the Worst Aust. Scott fears Kelly is missing link to WC premiership chances!
That was Scotts argument last trade season as well!
It's a pretty f*kd attitude inmho, i know it's a tough business and a ruthless competition with a lot of money involved-but to try and limit another club's shot at finals by manipulating or deflecting trades is a new low...am I being naive?
If we had embedded TK for 2019 season, would the result be the same?

I just don't see the point. Sure the Geelong plebs can be annoying but going into their safespace just to bug them just seems like bullying more then anything.
I'm amazed that anyone can get triggered on behalf of Geelong nuffies who may or may not be getting riled by anonymous people on a football forum?

I hope kelly stays strong and only wants to come to us.all this talk of wheeling and dealing picks to appease geelong is doing my head in.

I have no issue for Wells to do his job and try and get the best possible deal for Geelong, he is employed to do that.
I also have no issue with the thought of why try and make a contender more powerful as it’s a ruthless comp.
But I also believe that even with all the crap talk between clubs supporters that the people making these decisions are professionals and they will get a professional deal done that sees Kelly playing fir the Eagles next year. I think it’s just a bit of posturing and nothing more than that.

What leverage do Geelong have?

1. That if WC don't come up with an appropriate deal that we may lean on Kelly to consider Freo as an easier means of trading him to WA
2. The old veiled threat of "going to the draft" (which won't happen as the competition is far more mature now to do that but anyway...) in which Kelly may find himself at GC
3. That if WC stiff us now, then you wouldn't want a player coming out of contract coming back the other way. Maintenance of good working relationships within the industry is critical.

Yep, the clubs can really say what they want. It is what TK says that will matter most here.

So far it is 'WC only' - Geelong are doing there best to change that as they know that will be a better deal.

TK (with us in his ear) just needs to stay strong, and if required make an even stronger statement (i.e. 'as previously stated I have no issue with Fremantle, but also will not be playing there in 2020, my desire is to get to WC and only WC for the 2020 season') - eventually Geelong will have to start negotiating solely with us - with Freo's desires and offers having zero bearing on the price.\

We'll pay a fair price - but not picks 1,2 and 3 because GC, Freo or any other club has better picks. That is irrelevant, just what we can offer and Geelong obviously (and fairly) trying to get the best deal for themselves out of what we have to offer.

That'd be a two way street also with Geelong being difficult as hell, considering all the players they've gotten back due to Geelong being their home.

Whatever gets the deal done, we have plenty of colts on our list so for me Kelly is more important than putting another kid on our list. If Kelly is our priority then the draft is secondary this year.

9 News Footy article talking trades mentioned WCE need to offer multiple high draft picks and possibly a youngster like Oscar Allen!?...some wild speculation, can't see that happening at all.

'The Dockers have offered to have new coach Justin Longmuir speak to Tim Kelly as he tries to get to the Eagles but as yet have been rebuffed.'

Freo isn't looking much like Geelong's white knight, more like the type that goes into bat on social media for za ladies and then abuses them when they aren't interested.

Fremantle is still hoping to be in the race for Tim Kelly if talks between the Cats and Eagles fall through.

The Geelong midfielder has nominated West Coast but only as his preference, with his main priority being to get back to Western Australia.

“We will continue to do the best we can and present as a viable option should negotiations stall between Geelong and West Coast. But we are respectful of his wishes,” Fremantle GM of football Peter Bell said.

“We have had some discussions and that could eventuate but there’s nothing scheduled. Our stakeholders would expect us to be aggressive as possible but there is respect, so there is that balance.”

From that Fremantle seem to be doing what you’d hope and expect - sitting on the sidelines and keeping out of trade negotiations for Kelly but ready to step in and make a pitch if there’s a breakdown

Whilst Geelong will likely be trying to keep them in the frame it’s unlikely they jump in with a trade proposal that blows us out of the water

You guys have been leaning on Kelly for 2 years... he hasn't re-signed and has made his request for trade (to one club) crystal clear.

WC are not interested in having a massive win with this deal (albeit landing TK will be a win for the club - as he is a very good player) - but they also aren't going to compete with Freo or any other party in this trade - as they are not in the market. We'll work with Geelong in good faith to get a fair deal (which will look something like a 2019 R1, 2020 R1 and a 2nd coming back from Geelong - i.e. the currency traded for Treloar, Shiel etc who's CV's were very, very similar at the time of trade).

Left field one, how about Essendons larvede? Not much chop at the moment but seems to have a few of yeo's athletic characteristics. Would be cheap and could be worth a punt on our list to give him a different role and just follow around yeo and base his game on his?

But that wasn't the trades for those players if you look at the actual numbers rather than just the round numbers. Both those trades involved at least one top 10 pick.
