Dale erupted back into AA form tonight .
Liking the Buku, Jones & JOD combo down back .
JJ pushed hard which is the leadership you need from a senior player .
Astro closer to goal is the way to go and hopefully Garcia holds his position because we look better with him in the team .

I expect that all of the media rumours and bullshit that have floated about all week to dissipate like a fart in a cyclone.

It'll be somebody else's turn in the media's never ending feeding frenzy this week.
I expect cane toad and caros' bs to dissipate like a fart in a space suit

I can see Bevo possibly persisting with it, because he does that sort of stuff, but the team is best served with Richards in the back half.

I would be surprised if he persisted with it when Libba comes back.

Post Libba and Treloar I think we’ll see a lot of it though and it could be necessary. Thought he was solid in there personally.

The responses by some here basically suggesting that they'd rather be right about Bevo over the last week and lose than be wrong about Bevo and win is kind of iluminating. Enjoy the win. Enjoy the fact we have a good premiership coach. Don't listen to the media and maybe reflect that your opinion may have been wrong.

Our premiership coach out coached another highly regarded coach. That's good.

We saw an opportunity with smaller Saints defence and exploited it well with Timmy, Darcy, Lobb and Naughton

We played smart to the above players and that’s why it worked.

The forward line felt and was threatening every time we went in there

Caleb Daniel ain’t coming back in anytime soon..

I've been pretty vocal I think we need change.

At the same time I honestly would love Bevo to stay. I have a lifetime of love for what he has done & would be SO happy for him to keep coaching us, but there's a limit as well.

Let's see how the next month goes

Like the near miss against the Cats or last weeks disaster against Essendon Beveridge owns this.

I liked his willingness to mix things up in the middle. Something that Ive been moaning about for longer than any of youse care to remember. I had to call for a cold spoon to be found when I saw Richards go into the centre (in the second?). Then there was a time in the last when admittedly the game was well and truly over when he rolled Sanders, Garcia and Richards through there at once. We just looked so much more dynamic in the centre all night. A situation that was helped by English somewhat finding his mojo again.

The other aspect of tonight that stood out was how much latitude that JJ and Dale (both were fantastic) were given to roll through the middle of the ground. Watching Dale in front off the ball instead of being stuck in a purely defensive posture is one of the keys to unlocking what has traditionally been a hallmark of Beveridges sides.

One swallow may not make a summer, but its made my weekend.
I can't remember the last time we looked that quick through the middle of the ground. Richard's debut performance in the middle well and truly exceeded expectations, and as you have observed, it was noticeable how often JJ and Dale were appearing and providing an option through the corridor.

There had to be answer/alternative to the predictability of our Bont, Libba and Treloar. Macrae was excellent I thought. He plays that ball winning inside mid role in a different way to Libba but he was very effective in close, offensively and defensively.

Bont seemed to play outside far more tonight as Macrae, Treloar and Richards took responsibility for the inside. Perhaps the most promising thing to come out of the game. I wonder whether Bevo will give thought to Libba spending a bit more time outside rather than in if those guys (Macrae, Treloar, Richards, Garcia etc) can start getting it done consistently.

About f'ing time Richards gets time in the middle, i hope it continues for the next phase of his development. He provides both run and defensive side we lack. Congrats to the few of us who called this in recent years.

More Garcia time too, no to Weightman, he needs to stay forward.

No way Dale and Macrae play like that if they were in the side all year and their positions safe.

Treloar has been getting back and helping the backline a fair bit. Goes unnoticed as he is still winning the ball everywhere.

There was a plan! Lyon always kills us with spare defenders. We clearly followed a plan for forward entries. Credit to the coaches. The inconsistency is still on Bev though, shouldn't need the last week to fire them up.

Bevo's obviously been reading your posts NW. (I'm the other one who reads them.)

He got it half right this week and can get the other half right next week by playing Libba as an outside receiver.

Expect an invite to the coach's box any day now.

Garcia stays in. Him and West provide real small man grunt we need. Buku was very good but a couple of times misjudged the flight and ran under the ball (may not be obvious in the tv but could see it at the ground). Our height created aerial mismatches across the park as the Aints are not a particularly tall team, and we exploited it well. Good game from McRae (welcome back), Trelour, JJ and Dale. Big Timmy had a good game running around the park (killed whoever their ruckman is in that regard) but still needs to work on his centre bounce tap work. I still don’t understand why he doesn’t just run and jump at the ball. He would be unstoppable as he has a good leap for someone his size. Oppo rucks simply get to the drop of the ball and protect the space. I think they are all doing it as they review footage and provide instruction on how to get first hands to the ball as English only occasionally jumps at it…

I think the critisism of Lobb has been really over the top.
Maybe it's because he looks like a tall light globe running around with that blonde hair but I think he's been a reasonably solid recruit.
In the Melbourne game he flew back into a pack and took a courageous mark and then converted the goal from 40 out on an angle. One of our few highlights from that game. He was shit after that but so were all his teammates - he copped it though and was dropped. Earns his spot back in the team and was fantastic tonight. Some players are lightening rods for angry fans but I don't see it with him, I think he's OK and I've thought that since we got him.

Several excellent points TM. :thumbsu:

Dale, Lobb and Macrae spending time as sub or in the VFL has certainly sharpened their concentration on what they have to do - and what they do they best. While I've been critical of Bevo in other areas I haven't had too many problems with the message being sent to these players (Lobb was probably unlucky - it was more about team balance than form).

I'm backing Daniel to come good too eventually.
