Melbourne can't afford to sack him IMO.

39 tackles in a game of football is pathetic. We had a bloke lay 15 by himself yesterday.

Disposals - GC 410 Melb 309 (+101)
Tackles - GC 71 Melb 39 (+32)

How the f*** do you get thumped in both disposal and tackle counts? I don't think you can blame the coach for those kind of stats.

I know, if I think about it logically...but it's the whole ******* unit.

I'm just so tired of losing. I'm so tired of trying to care. I'm so tired of having my hopes smashed within a 20 minute span weekend on weekend. I think I'm going to have to stop going, I try to emotionally detach but then I just don't enjoy it.

This sucks.

It does mate.... because it's been so damn long and it's still going to be a long time before it is fixed. My own team hasn't been to the very top for a long time and I'm frustrated by that so I can't imagine how it must feel supporting Melbourne.

You need to be sold some sort of hope. I think you'd get that if you acquired a tried and proven coach. Bailey and Neeld haven't worked - get in a Williams or a Roos. They need someone who knows the ropes and has that type of self-confidence that is only seen in someone who has a legacy of successful work behind them. You need a face more assured than that of Mark Neeld.

If they keep him it's solely for financial reasons. Not really ideal given they need to have everything right going for them, including a competent coach.

Now we don't know for sure if Neeld is a good coach/ or a bad coach, but the evidence suggests he is not up to it. It's not like sacking him could make things worse. It's simply a matter of weighing the financial cost of sacking him up against the possible improvement a new coach could bring. For a rich club this would be a moot point, Neeld would already be gone.

Williams is past it.

Roos is not interested in coaching again.

Maybe Ratten.

In any case it looks like 5 years before they will be in the 8.

Wow, GC getting to use the ball more than 10 times per tackle received. That is huge. Very rare to see that. Melbourne getting about 4.5 disposals per tackle received. That tells the story, right thee.

Seriously clueless isn't he. However what is so sad is, he isn't the only problem and the MFC have many things to fix besides him. But he's far from helping, probably making it even worse.

The Melbourne players look totally disinterested.. quite amazing to watch actually.

This is one of the most prominent examples of a coach losing his players that I can remember

Spot on.

Here's the rub.

Sacking Neeld actually won't fix the problem.

Perhaps the only thing that might is top tap into Casey and get the performers there into the side.

Casey are slaughtering the competition in the VFL. Surely the Melbourne listed players down there are doing everything they can to get themselves selected.

That's where it starts.

its that attitude that will kill your club, everyone has a laugh at ninthmond and our failures , but hey we stuck by the club through thick thin, loads of manure and are still hanging in, you guys say oh its not fair give us more priority pics etc etc, harden the f up

For those who say they can't afford to sack, I say they cannot afford to keep him.

The problem is, if he stays, and the side continues to perform like this, then people will stop rolling up to Melbourne games (both supporters and opposition fans).

That will hurt Melbourne's hip pocket with less paying supporters coming through the gate.

Let's say 25,000 was expected today and only 13,000 showed up. Average that out to $20 per head and they took what, a $240,000 hit to the bottom line? Now times that for the remaining home games for the year.

Ugly footy, with no light at the end of the tunnel, keeps the fans away.

Watching the game on the big screen the long shots were damning. Melbourne players were walking between plays, flat footed, sloppy....

They shouldn't need to be motivated to give two shits about a game they love and get paid to play.
Do you remember what WC were like after the Judge years? When we recruited Woosha as coach, I wasn't sure if he was the right person. But after, I think, our first 5 games under him, we won probably only 2, but the attitude change and the confidence that he gave the players was very noticeable and I knew we had made the right decision.

The coach needs to motivate players and make them believe in themselves. Even when they aren't winning. Especially when they aren't winning.

Right now we are at the lowest point in the club's history. The lowest. Richmond, despite it all, never got this low. This is Fitzroy's last years bad, and they were being pushed out by the AFL. I'm finding it hard because I emotionally invest and support, and yet get punished for it time and again. If the MFC was a woman, this would be classified as an abusive relationship.

Some people just can't do it, and to be honest I'm wondering if I'm one of them. And it's not like I haven't stayed around for a while - it's been seven years with only the tiniest flash of hope in 2010.

Of course sacking Neeld won't fix the problem, but they need a scapegoat, and it's almost always the coach. It's best for both the club and Neeld, he's lost the players and they have no faith in him, and he can't do anything about it and is probably pissed off. Someone would take him as an assistant coach though.

Average that out to $20 per head

Not so sure.

MCG members account for some attendees.

All unallocated seat memberships work out to well less than 20 per game.

Unallocated family of four works out to about 7 or 8 dollars per person, per game.

Yes, there are more expensive tickets but I am not sure they would bring the average up to 20.
