The mysterious last list spot

Anyone else confused...?

So given we have Hudson as a "nominated rookie" to be instantly promoted to the senior last at the beginning of the season, do we have the option for a PSD selection or not? I'd love Sam Colqhoun to get a gig with us if Garlett is already taken. Solid player that was overlooked out of circustances rather than ability in my opinion.

I think the answer is yes.

We have two vacancies. One from passing in our last round of the ND and the other from delisting Yagmoor.

So if Jolly as "nominated rookie" takes one spot (and I think thats the case) then we have room for one more player in the PSD. Or we could make Jolly a non-nominated (ie vanilla) rookie!!! That would leave us with two PSD picks....my brain hurts!!

This is my interpretation also but I suggest we only add the one senior listed player and after that go for rookies.

I would have thought that it would have been the same as with a traded player - the amount that the new club pays him would be in their salary cap and the amount that we have to pay him - difference between his rookie salary at a new club and his contract with us - would be in our cap.

This with Hudson.

As close as I can tell. Would not be in the least surprised if I was wrong, due to an extreme lack of information available.

I think Jed Hillman was eligible this year but as we've heard nothing I'm guessing he won't be picked up.

Carracher would be pretty unlikely too, especially given we've filled all our category 2 spots with Mooney/Hartley/Richmond.

Edwards and Haggerty both still look good but aren't eligible for this year.

Cheers, mate. Does anyone have an update on Haggerty's development? [Or a suggestion for where to look for it myself :D]

Around 196cm. Has had injury issues (growth related from what I understand).

Have seen little of him though so perhaps Snoop Dog or TRS might know more.

Eligable next year so more should become clear then.

Well the coincidental thing is I was discussing players capable of playing senior state level football :thumbsu:

AFAIK Melbourne are yet to be demoted to the VFL, but I could be wrong? Which makes me wonder what relevance they have to the discussion I was taking part in....

well the moment has probably passed, but you were discussing the number of well-performed short people in the VFL. Most of these boys could be easily drafted by Melbourne. In fact, I would suggest that it would be relatively easy to draft 10 talented players under 175cm from the VFL, SANFL and WAFL. I'd suggest that these boys would lift Melbourne's skill level considerably. btw, if that doesnt answer your question, then we might have been discussing different points in differents posts.....

Apparently the Dogs have signed Nick Lower through free agency? I'm confused as I thought the FA period was over?
Also I reckon he'd be worth a punt if you want to try something different in SuperCoach next year (I'm guessing he'll be about $300k since he only played 3 games last year).

Edit: This probably isn't the right place for this but I wasn't going to start a new thread on it. I probably could have found a more suitable place for it though now that I think of it.

They signed him as a delisted free agent, which is different to a normal free agent and much easier for them to change teams.

My understanding, and I'm far from confident on it, is that that free spot we had on the list was optional to fill and we've effectively decided to fill it by having Hudson as a nominated rookie once we pick him up.

Now we've delisted Yagmoor we should have an additional spot we can fill, so you'd think PSD would be the go.

I thought you could only have a nominated rookie if you did not have 2 players on your veterans list.

Just googled and found a link - http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/131078/default.aspx

So, so to summarise, we will be picking between 1 and 57 rookies and they could be pretty much anyone (probably including Hudson).

It's easier to understand the voting rules for the Senate.

The brainiacs on extreme black and white are ardamant that we will take ANDREW BOSTON! during the psd draft.

Question is who's he????

dont know anything about him but here is a vid.

Thanks for that Matz................He looks ok in the vid but prefer to rookie him if we must and get a young more experienced player Like a pettard,Jacobs or someone of that ilk for our psd pick.

You're on a different wavelength to me on this one. I was just responding to Blaze's initial assertion that a player of similar midget proportions to the players I listed wouldn't be able to play at VFL level (a point which Blaze later clarified). It had nothing to do with AFL level.

As for Melbourne IMO it depends almost entirely on the talent of those smalls. If they were say drafting 10 Rioli's or 10 Boomer Harvey's then go for it because talent will always win out, however if they're taking 10 smalls who have similar talent levels to 10 six footers (which from state league levels is likely) then take the six footers because they'll foreseeably have less limitations long term.
