The mysterious last list spot

Having Kennedy out of their midfield would be a massive win for Collingwood. You often hear theories about small mids being exposed by their opponent dragging them forward adn dominating them, but I can't think of examples of it actually occuring.

It doesnt happen because the coach changes the match-ups, but if you've got sinclair, blair, krak, elliot, the new kid kennedy and josh thomas all running around, Bucks will never be able to find any over 1 metre tall to match up with the big midfielders that have gone forward.

anyway, seriously, I'm starting to like the fact that we're recruiting so many short people. I've heard that the AFL is going to change the draft rules next year so you can get 2 short people for the one draft pick. Good value, I think, and a set knives too..

So does the Yagmoor de-listing mean we'll be looking to take 2 players in the PSD? It means we now need to take at least one right? Any other rumors other than Dwyer and Saunders? Also here is a list of players training with AFL clubs.

Then Melbourne should recruit all these guys and few more short people and win the premiership next year....

one thing is for sure..... short people can fly better than pigs...

Well the coincidental thing is I was discussing players capable of playing senior state level football :thumbsu:

AFAIK Melbourne are yet to be demoted to the VFL, but I could be wrong? Which makes me wonder what relevance they have to the discussion I was taking part in....

If we're taking Hudson and making him a nominated rookie, we now have 1 potential PSD pick with Yagmoor's delisting. It could also be used on a delisted FA, or to elevate Mooney.

We've also gone from 5 rookie selections of which one is Hudson, to 5 rookie selections of whom two are Hudson and Yagmoor. Sorry if that's stating the obvious, BTW. :p

Mate, keeping the list rules and requirements straight for all of us to understand is much appreciated
[and not that obvious - to me at least :D ].

If you have a free spot on the list, do you have to nominate a rookie at the start of the year or can you simply leave it free for when you want to promote a rookie into the seniors?

My understanding, and I'm far from confident on it, is that that free spot we had on the list was optional to fill and we've effectively decided to fill it by having Hudson as a nominated rookie once we pick him up.

Now we've delisted Yagmoor we should have an additional spot we can fill, so you'd think PSD would be the go.

Very confused....

If we had one spot yet to fill on the main list after the ND, then with Yagmoor being delsited dont we now have two spots to fill?

Potentially it could be a salary cap issue where because we are so close to the maximum with all the offseason additions and the big Cloke signing that we are looking to go the one less senior listed player and elect to go for an extra rookie contract instead.

I'm only speculating but it would make sense, that said I don't know for sure but perhaps over the coming weeks more will become clear.

Yagmoor's full salary will be in the cap regardless. All first year players get a two year contract. Dropping to the rookie list has no salary cap advantages as far as I'm aware.

So I'm right? We have two vacancies? (salary cap permitting)

Have we actually stated that we intend to make Hudson a nominated rookie. I would have thought that it would be better to leave the spot open so that we can choose between Hudson, Mooney andDwyer (if we take him) to promote depending upon VFL form. Personally, I wouldn't nominate Hudson. I wouldn't want him to play in the first half of the year, as I'd prefer to get games into the kids. In the second half of the year, you can upgrade someone without having a free spot on the list. I'd want him to be upgraded then to get him ready in case he is needed in the finals.

He's now 24 years old. He's been playing VFL since his back to back Morrish medals of 05 & 06 and started at that level in the mid to high 60's.
It's certainly not a major point, but just for interest sake, Caruso has played for West Adelaide in the SANFL for the last 4 years. Along with his brother Nat he is returning to Melbourne to play suburban football next year.

Bucks did in a recent interview mentioned in an article on afl.com.au.

Timmy, nominated rookies are essentially elevated from the start of the season, so yes that's pretty much how it works.

Thanks for the correction. I guess the info I heard on the drafts and trading board was wrong about us being into him if he finished off the year well at Coburg :thumbsu:

Ok so you need to have a vacancy on the main list then to allow this to happen? Or can the nominated rookie be an additional player above the regular 38? 9 (I think its 38)

This is my interpretation also but I suggest we only add the one senior listed player and after that go for rookies.
