8 overs short on the day again.

Time to start dramatically cutting match payments until they get their 90 in.

Run penalties would be more likely to work, six runs per over for each over short on the day. The ICC is subtracting WTC points presently, but suspensions are another thing they could consider.

25 wickets falling in 155 overs plus only 19 of those overs being bowled by spinners. Hard to expect a fast over rate under those conditions

It's not good enough. The states contesting the Sheffield Shield bowl 96 overs in the same timeframe, yet most test nations can't bowl 90, even with the additional 30 minutes. Yes, there is DRS which adds time, but sides should be able to 90 overs in six and a half hours.

The ICC needs to take a tougher stance on this and the umpires need to do more to ensure play ticks along in a reasonable manner.

It’s not just DRS. The 3rd umpire in general takes up so much time in international cricket which is part of the reason why no one can ever reach 90.

DRS - 3 reviews each minimum, and you get blokes late in the innings reviewing decisions that are absolutely plumb just because they’ve got a review left so they might as well use it.

Every ball now gets checked for front foot no balls, meaning more are being called and re-delivered.

Just about any runout chance that is even remotely close gets sent to the 3rd umpire to review. Umpires should be making a decision on field and it can be reviewed in the background while the batter walks off.

Any catch that’s close to the ground gets a frame by frame analysis to make sure it was a legal catch.

Any ball that lands close to the toblerone gets a frame by frame analysis too.

These are all little things that add up, and that’s without mentioning the batters taking the piss with drinks breaks after every over and needing new gloves every 2 overs.

How many games end up as 5 day draws these days (without rain delays which would reduce overs anyway)? I don't see a problem, given lots if Tests struggle to get to day 4.

Shield matches usually end up several overs short too.

There’s a lot of pissfarting around during play that should be removed so that the game can keep moving to improve the overrate - getting the physio to come out five minutes before stumps for example

All sides are guilty of it and the umpires should be more proactive in hurrying teams along

That said when test matches are hurtling along like they often are these days it seems churlish to worry about it too much

The Perth test was completed well inside 4 days and this one doesn’t look like getting to a 5th day either. They’ve hardly been dull games so the slow over rate might not be the blight on the game we instinctively think it is

Yeah the over rate always gets put onto the bowling team but often it it the batting team that is causing the delays etc so its pretty difficult to penalise one team when both might be more or less equally responsible.

Pant out early is deflating. Was hoping he could knock a few around and set a half interesting total to chase.
At least he's learnt a valuable lesson about why he shouldn't play ridiculous shots like a front foot defence.

Khawaja hit a 4 to win the game and has only been credited 1 run for it. Bit odd.
If they completed a run before the ball hit the rope, the game is officially over at that point.

I say this but I haven't watched it on tv so don't know what actually happened.

That must be it then

Must admit to being really surprised NSW didn't declare and have a crack at us tonight.

Will probably declare overnight but they wouldn't want to lose any more time to light or rain.
