The odds against Sydney

I have no idea when was the last time Collingwood played at the SCG though i do know Collingwood played at the SCG in 1999 (Tony Lockett's 1300th goal) but im not sure if that was the last time.

Anyway the SCG is a fortress for the Swans. Even with our pathetic form of late the Swans are still extremely competitive at the SCG which suits our style of play more than any other ground in the AFL.

On another note Rhyce Shaw will get BOG next week. He has been in good form this season and i would love to see him go well against his former club (hopefully he has some tips on how we can beat you as well as Paul Roos needs every tip he can get).
That is a significant personnel change - it makes us a further six goals better than Sydney.

I had to have a quiet chuckle when the boys on One Week At A Time were talking up how good he's been this year at Sydney. The footage they showed was of him taking three bounces across the half back line before producing a floating helicopter kick that bounced 10 metres short and five metres wide of his target.

That's exactly as I remember him from his halcyon days at our club.

Rhyce has been toby Roos to run, run and then run some more and he is providing some much needed pace into a very slow Swans team. As for his kicking he is certainly better than what i was expecting (as Collingwood fans talked like he was the worst kick in the world). He seems to have a reasonably good kick to me.

the odds really shocked me, not only were the Pies odds IMO blown out they are actually considered to be outsiders in this game.

Bewildering, this was the only teams odds that i selected incorrectly for this round I had the Pies at around the $1.50 mark.

2008 R21 Collingwood 8.3 11.6 15.8 18.10 (118) dftd Sydney 2.3 4.3 6.7 10.13 (73) Telstra Dome Aug 23 (Sat 7:10pm)

2007 EF Collingwood 6.5 8.9 13.12 18.17 (125) dftd Sydney 1.4 7.5 9.8 13.9 (87) Melbourne Cricket Ground Sep 8 (Sat 7:30pm)

We played them at the SCG in 2000... I remember it was a very close game and again in 2003. I was sitting with my then boss and his wife was a swans supporter, I gave Nick Davis the serving of a lifetime as he was on the bench in front of me.

I think Presti should take out hefty life insurance next week because Hall is likely to just lose it ala Unkie Moe(when Moe opens Unkie Moes family feedbag and the little girl complains about the cold Sodie) after Presti owns his arse.

Hall just may kill him right there on the ground.

Correction :- Wakelin has lined up on Hall for the last few years and destroyed him... Presti owns everyones arse!

Trying to make a point? Collingwood will BEAT us convincingly at our own game FULL STOP

Hey Fadge,

Thats exactly what I thought too. Maybe we can do exactly the same as every other team did to us and make him the loose backman. He will turn it over 50% of the time. Have not missed him at all. In fact cracked the champagne bottle when I heard he was going to Sydney.:D

Rhyce Shaw has more than DOUBLE the amount of bounces than the next highest player in the AFL and as we all know the mark of a good player is how many times they bounce the ball :D

Yasser Arafat + Ringo Star = Rhyce Shaw.

he could bounce it a billion times for what we care, at the end of the day, the ball always ends up going from his foot or hand straight to the opposition, so whilst hes bouncing away happily, we all know that hes direct target is not going to be in the red and white.

I think we need to make Sydney accountable. So we think that Rhyce's disposal is sub-standard, fair enough, I'd prefer the ball didn't come out of our forward 50 at all. I think we should play man-on-man, and give Rhyce an opponent he has to stick to, preferably someone who can exploit him overhead. Brad Dick or Alan Didak would be fine, both can kick goals quickly if left unattended.

As for the price, I still can't fathom it and decided to take the $2.10 on offer for Collingwood -3.5. I'd like to see us shorten significantly though before game time, getting what I consider to be so far over the odds makes me nervous.

I think now that the Pies have named an unchanged line-up, and Sydney has omitted Bolton due to injury, they'll come in to something around the $1.75 - $1.80 mark.

Past games mean nothing really. If we had lost 20 times in a row to Sydney it wouldn't change the circumstances of the game.

I disagree. I think it has a massive bearing on the players. Pyschologically its a massive difference between the two sides. Prime example is Brisbane Lions VS Collingwood, earlier this decade, after the Grand Final loses.

Confirmed: $1.78 at Sportingbet and $1.79 on IASbet now, albeit still $1.81 at Centrebet and $1.83 at Betfair (mind you, they take a 5% margin so their odds ought to be better). :)

The Collingwood -3.5 line is now into $1.91 or less, instead of the $2.10 I got. :thumbsu:

Rhyce has been a much better player since moving to the Swans.
And i hope he keeps it up... except when he's playing against us!:thumbsu:

This is my main match of the year. I have looked forward to this since the last encounter in Sydney. That is basically my grand final. I think the boys are pretty even going into the game. If Presti can restrict Hall, and N. Brown can keep O'Loughlin to 2 goals we should be able to get over the line. Remember also they are missing Bolton which if Medders returns is great news!

By 60? Isn't that a bit keen, Pricey?

I don't like all the optimisim, because Collingwood usually find a way to lose these games that everyone thinks we'll win. I'm just hoping for a close one and a win.

Apparently it's been pissing down all night last night and today.

Even though the ground has great drainage, the footy is going to be wet.

I expect a lower scoring, tight game.

I thought we played some high standard footy, well Dick certainly did, in pretty slippery conditions v Melbourne.
I reckon the wet would favour us.....maybe.
