I’m disillusioned with the America. How are there so many people that are happy to re-elect a reprehensible human being?
I weep for Ukraine. Trump getting in can't be good for them.
Orange campaigner.

He wants to lower the corporate tax rate again in the US, which is to lure multinationals back to the US. That affects my job as all my clients here in Ireland are US multinationals.
Ireland ****ed its own people with this decision. hope it bits them in the arse.

they seem to be headed towards civil war not matter who wins.
Been hearing this for 10 years now and it hasn't even gotten close.

America's a good place to live. not much worse than Australia these days. but of course Americans are all dumb and evil and we're super smart over here and hell intellectual. and skinnier.

Their gun laws and healthcare are enough to put me off ever living there.

i reckon if he ran a campaign like trump he would go very close. like a proper campaign of hatred and a lack of any empathy or apathy.

I really don't think he would.

Partly because of the whole, you vote for your local representative not the leader of the party bit.

Dunno, Australian's arent that stupid. They managed to vote out Scomo

The overall stupidity/gullibility of Americans is that they believe Trump is for them. He's not, he's for himself and always has been. They think he's going to "save our children" when he's actually going to do nothing of the sort when he's going to screw healthcare, allow guns to run rife and collapse the US economy by increasing prices of everything with his tariffs. That's just simple observations of his basic policies let alone anything else.

I don’t like Trump or his policies at all but really the democrats in the US have to seriously change how they go about things. Just consistently telling everyone how bad the other guy is and how stupid people are for voting for him isn’t going to work. They just had to be much better at telling people what they were actually going to do and how they were going to make things better.

The more they just push against Trump the person over the next 4 years the more likely this happens all over again too. This cycle was unusual because of the disaster Biden became during the campaign but it was still probably saveable at that stage.

I don’t think we can really get too high and mighty about how dumb Americans are either. If we had an election next week Peter Dutton would be Prime Minister so similar ideas work over here as well.

You don't think Harris campaigned hard on her policies and what she intended to do?

See this is where I think the two campaigns were judged by different standards.

Trump constantly talked down America and slagged off anyone connected to the Harris campaign.

I'm struggling to think of a positive thing he said during the campaign unless he was talking about himself.

Harris campaign did criticise Trump, but spent a lot of time looking forward and speaking of opportunity and future. Every day, every rally there was a positive message.

Not nearly well enough. Far too many sound bites from her and the whole party were aimed at how bad the opposition was. The election was always going to be won or lost on the economy and their messaging needed to distance herself from the Biden administration where possible and then make it really clear what would change if she became President.

She was always up against it though because the very easy narrative for the republicans was to point at the last four years, then point at Trumps term and ask the public when they thought things were better.

Anyway, what a ****ing disaster for the world.

Not only for the next 4 years but it cements the Republican Party as the Trump party and I don't think there's a way they can come back from that.

Hopefully the decent republicans branch out, build a new party and start building from scratch.

As someone that typically doesn't care who wins elections (two cheeks of the same arse etc) this has me feeling very negative about the future in America and the rest of the world. And I suspect that Trumpism and all the shit that comes with it will now thrive in other countries.

Perhaps because her opposition was bad. She doesn't choose what sound bites the media decides to run with. Like Moomba said, you're really showing yourself as judging the two campaigns by different standards. She does have to respond to the things Trump says since, you know, they're in a competition with each other.

The US economy, inflation, employment, etc. were all improving under Biden so not quite sure how pointing to the economy lost Harris the election. Instead it was purely her race and gender.
