I got back on the vinyl wagon a few years back. Expensive hobby, but something meaningful about getting up from my chair to flip over a record. When I stream music it fades into the background. The act is dropping the needle somehow encourages me to engage more with the music.
i'd like to collect vinyl cos the covers are gorgeous and many of the limited vinyls that get released too, i just cant justify the price.

It's sad that now collecting vinyl is cool again they've ramped up the prices.

Wonder if BlueSky will finally kill off Twitter.
i dont think it will kill it off but it's having one hell of an upturn. 15 mil users, 1 mil new in a week, and number 1 on app stores. i think a lot of regular users will move because it's so much cleaner and not filled to the brim with bots and rubbish. it looks good for people who like to have chat with people online.

It's identical to what Twitter used to be which will help appeal to people. Threads tried but it was too incomplete functionally, but once there's a critical mass of activity I'd happily switch full time to BlueSky.

i'll appreciate not having hatred just shoved into my face every second. the for you tab on twitter is horrific. remember looking at it when it first came in and everything was like 'so you hate the gays and the jews and trans people dont you?' nah i dont twitter but i think you might want me to.

Yep my Twitter used to just be sports news, which is what I wanted, now my feed is just bombarded by politics from accounts I have never interacted with. Has caused me to use X a lot less.

Wasn’t one of Musk’s big promises when he bought Twitter to end the bots? They’ve never been worse.

Agree the ‘for you’ tab is a horror show. People farming for engagement is an awful experience and the way its setup encourages it. Getting extremist content shoved in your face when you don’t follow or engage with any of it only got worse heading into the election.

Haven’t used bluesky yet but hopefully it takes off because a genuine alternative would be great.

German club St Pauli just announced it’s ditching it in favour of Bluesky.
Funnily enough reading this convo I switched to the for you tab and that was one of the first things I saw.

Don't think I've ever not had it set to 'following'

i think as well bluesky could get some momentum if they're able to get advertising from the companies that dont advertise on twitter. which is basically every company that isnt temu, mobile slot machine games, ai and crypto.

I think they've said they don't intend to have any advertising/data farming but instead will make money from offering advanced capabilities to users.

I'm also not a techhead so don't understand how it works but they've claimed there's no 'owner', it's an open-source site so no one can buy it and **** it up.

i think as it grows it's inevitable that there will be a bit of advertising. but right now all they really have to do is sit and wait for people to leave twitter, and ensure that they fix problems and ensure they can cope with the load of people moving across.
