What a stupid argument.

95 percent of homes have a Monopoly set. Does that make it the biggest game in the country?

W...T...F??? I don't understand your monopoly example. Probably my brain a bit soft from one too many head clashes.

How is it a stupid argument? Calling it the biggest game in the country when only 45% of the population live in an area that gives a toss.

The other 55% are serviced by two small teams who have niche followings mostly made up of ... people from Victardia.

I fully acknowledge that AFL has better crowds. No-one would be stupid enough to deny that. I hope the administrators of rugby league try and encourage more people to get to the games rather than just watch it at home (if you've ever checked the TV ratings you would know we do have massive ratings in NSW and Queensland). How they do this, I don't know.
And how much are your TV rights worth? The corporate world and media networks know Australian Rules produces the better product.

www.google.com should have the answers you seek. As I said, they are poor. Probably around 5k I guess?

But once again, again, again, again

I know AFL has good crowds! Excellent crowds compared to NRL in fact!

Please come back with something else.

But that is the primary driver of a popularity contest, so we dont need anything else.

So the real argument here is you personally think ARL is a better game than AFL, which is fine, and we don't.
You admit that statistically the AFL has it over the ARL in terms of support.
The financial facts clearly prove AFL is a more valuable asset than the ARL.
The AFL contributes far more to the GDP.

Your main gripe with AFL then would be what?

NQ is fast becoming an AFL stronghold with aussie rules being the number 1 game in Cairns and everywhere north of cairns. Gold Coast will get there. Only a matter of time until all neanderthals are eliminated. :)

What do you want to base it on? Net worth? Attendances?

The Swans are the biggest football club in Sydney. If their membership and attendances constitute niche, what would you call the 8000 odd crowds the Eels and Rabbitohs have pulled? Not to mention the Rabbitohs 5000 odd members.

Because If there was one rugby league team in Sydney, playing in Sydney every fortnight, you would sell out ANZ Stadium every week.
That's hardly the point, but I'll run with it.

One league team in Brisbane. The Lions have averaged better home attendances in years past, and this year's avg attendances are reasonably close. Deeeebunked.

Come on, don't tell fibs.

Tell me why they are, without saying "they get 30k to every home game".

Okay, they're the biggest because they have the most members of any Sydney club, the highest attendances of any club in Sydney and have the most valuable jumper space of any team in Sydney.

What makes you think they aren't? Try and answer without using hypotheticals or the word "if" as the first word in a statement.

Why? Would League fans go to ANZ even when there wasn't a game in Sydney that week?

Collingwood, Essendon seem to manage it in Melbourne no problem. And Sydney league teams can't because........ nope, no reason - League is just a poorer product.

If by "close" you mean "10000 less", then sure, they were "close".
I thought it was only 2-3k difference, even so, that's pretty ordinary for rugby league. 1v1, when one club is supposedly from a league that no one cares about. ;) Lions had better home attendances at the start of this decade. :)

The Broncos should be packing out Suncorp every game if they were fair dinkum, but I guess no one wants to watch something so linear and one dimensional.

Well the stats say it all really.

AFL is the fourth most attended league in the entire WORLD (averaging 39k per match) :thumbsu:
No matter what argument you rugby flogs come up with (oh but you aren't international like us blah blah) at the end of the day, AFL always has and always will be the most popular football league in the country. Heck, even Fremantle manages to draw a bigger crowd than the biggest club in the NRL!
This thread is pointless.

A poster on another board recently described his experience at a Broncos game...

- There was a bloke riding around the field on a horse
- Brisbane Broncos mascot was running around like an idiot
- The Hogs Breath Cafe Pig Mascot was doing backflips up and down the ground
- Crack addicts dressed up as cheerleaders trying in vein to water down the homoeroticism from all the bum sniffing
- Fireworks going off constantly.

Sounds like an absolute circus for slow witted rednecks. Clearly the on-field product isn't worth the price of admission alone.

Whereas, the Lions on the other side of the river, despite playing the "Victorian code" were drawing just 5k less per game without the circus.

Totally agree..no RL person should ever say otherwise

In the 3rd largest city in the country, as well as being rugby league central (commonly referred to as the capital of league in the last couple of years), yeah, that's nobody.

last time i saw 34 000 people was a large amount of people, but i guess we are all different
