Just to clarify, I'm not concerned as much about what we lost but rather than history may repeat.
On that score, I'll feel a lot better when I hear that Aish has been re-signed. I suspect they are working hard at it.

Well at least he and Karni are having home cooked meals - he he!

Okay, bit of a numpty question for those who have played;
Should the ball be kicked to a lead, or lead to a kick?
That is, should a forward run to space in hope, or does the kicker put the ball to a spot that can be run onto?

I suspect a bit from column A and B. When I watch Close, he is constantly running around his opponent with an eye on the ball carrier, trying to maintain a position where he can get separation in space. Very often he doesn't get eye contact and there is, therefore, no understanding that he is waiting for the ball. This is more often the case when the ball is closer to the forward 50 and the space is more congested. I have noticed after a forward 50 entry a number of times that he has signalled to the kicker to lower the eyes.

I understand that in the case of the ball coming in longer, forwards need to present as a target and he probably needs to be better at this, but I also think that the ball carriers need to get better at looking for him closer in. He works bloody hard to get in positions which are often ignored. Anyone thinking he doesn't work hard enough are kidding themselves.
Think of the term 'dropping back into a hole' - it is the defenders role to close off space for a forward to lead into, it is the forwards role to false lead/decoy and suck opposition players away from the 'hot spot'. It is then as you say a little A and a little of B - most times the KPF picks the moment but a smart ball mover can pass the ball to where the leading forward needs to be.

A couple of positives, Close already directing traffic, yeah also saw the call to Lester to lower his eyes late in the first. Deduct the the first three goals we allowed the tigers and also throw in their last goal 30secs from the siren, that's ummmm.... 24pts - what did we lose by again? 25 you say? Okay... can you now excuse me I'm off to the vent thread to discuss same scoring shots but 7:12 ;)

All in all - lots of positives, a squad that will give us lots to work with but acknowledging they've still a lot to work on. Ain't gunna happen over night but I can see that we've past the darkest of the night - BRING ON THE DAWN! :thumbsu:

Lewy Taylor.

Imagine how sick in the guts we would all be if we passed on him at #28 and he was playing like he is now somewhere else.

Can't recall a Lions player at least since Dan Rich in his first year that over and over the Victorian Lions faithful spoke about so proudly and affectionately of. He already is a massive favourite down here and no doubt up there too. That's not to say that the other draftees aren't, but Lewy is just one of those rare out of the box guys.

He really is a little gem and one that so many clubs must be ruing they overlooked. What's most impressive is Lewy the individual. I haven't me him personally, but his story/background combined with how genuine and humble he comes across makes for a very likeable lad.

A selfish positive post.

I attended Tommy Rockliff's first AFL game against Collingwood at the MCG on a freezing Saturday night in round 18 of 2009 in what was his only game of the season.

Should Tom play not get himself into any strife or injured upon his return, he should notch up his 100th, also against Collingwood at the MCG on probably a freezing Saturday night, some five years later, which I'll also be attending.

I think we've found the reason why he got himself suspended; play his 100th in front of the Melbourne faithful.

Thanks Tommy!:D

Excellent planning we're pretty good in milestone games. Not sure rocky can make the distance from outside 50 though. All the lions fans would have to go down the opposite end behind him and blow real hard

Selfish for me too, as I'm making the trip down for the scummers game.

Couldn't care less if it is Rocky's 100th just as long as we beat those ferals.

Hopefully they all resign and come through together. Two years time we will be a player again. Grammatically questionable but you know what I mean.

Taylor hopefully will be one. I reckon him signing sends a good message to the others. I can't see Aish signing yet, but ever hopeful that he will.

Frankly, any of them signing will be a big positive.
