On a grim night, Mitch Robinson can hold his head high. I'm proud he's a Lion. He may not be the most talented player but he gives his all and uses his body like a battering ram time and time again. If only more of our team played with his intent.

IIRC he has also done well to thus far avoid the on field transgressions he was frequently guilty of at Carlton - the late hits etc. Or maybe I'm just more forgiving now he's in our colours... :)

Hugh Beasley did some nice things, in fact there were numerous times that virtually all our youngsters did something that gives hope.

Sam Mayes and Jack Redden stood up to cover our late withdrawals.

There have been times this year when I would have been more than just "forgiving" of a transgression, in fact there have been times I have yelled encouragement of it.

Robbo was in our top 5 players. Was closely watching his opponent, but as soon as the ball hit the ground he just dives at it head first. He might be playing a tag type role, but it isnt the heavy tag like what Raines use to do. I really hope he plays a lot of footy with our young guys because he is a great example of effort and hunger for the contest. Overall, our boys dont go hard enough for the ball, still too happy to sit back and try tackle the guy that does get it. Id rather see us get pinged more getting caught diving on it.

Mayes had a really solid game which i was very happy with. He has had a dirty year so far, was good to see him bounce back. Beasley was also good. Im happy with our defensive players for the next decade. I think we have the pieces. Just need to sort the forward line and keep adding some midfield grunt and polish.

He has certainly silenced the (perfectly legitimate) concerns expressed on this board when the prospect of his acquisition was first mooted!

Me - how many stitches?
Mitch - only a few

'Only'. He has no regard for his own safety.

Martin doesnt have the hands to be a decent FF option. In saying that, with our current players available, id rather have Bergs #1 ruck and use Martin up forward. Think Bergs is the better ruck and Martin gives more than Bergs up forward.

I thought Martin clunked a couple of decent marks last night. He also got personally smashed by the umpires all night, so probably would have been better again but for that. Showed more than Leuey as you say

Have seen a few say that they would prefer Leuy as the Number 1 Ruck, I would like some to expand on why. He has never got close to the season that Martin had in 2015 aside from glimpses, and we lose virtually another midfield in numbers when Martin isn't left to play virtually sole ruck.

We have tried Martin up forward many times and it just hasn't worked, and Leuy just cannot play forward at all. There just seems to be a wave of Leuy support, but in all honesty as much as I have appreciated his efforts and loyalty I do wonder if it would be better for himself and the club if he did move on. Is it emotion that is creating the wave of support? If we do land a key forward of significance there is a massive doubt they would both get a game in 2016 anyway.

A case of two guys that just play their best footy in the ruck (has been this way for some time) and given they are both so one dimensional, something needs to give.

I don't think its about number 1 or 2 rucks it's about the combination. Stef can't ruck the whole game so we need another ruckman and Leuey is basically it. So we have to find a way to make it work which we did last night.

I also thought last night when Stef wasn't in the ruck he was our best key forward. Leuey also provided a good target even though he didn't hold his marks.

Our ruckman were amazing last night and I wouldn't let either of them go for less than a top 10 pick.
