Need kyrgios to win a slam, deserves it most entertaining player

Lol bet you barracked for Novak at Wimbledon instead of Kyrgios you're a disgrace
It would be something. The ATP rankings aren't really a true representation of the best players. Kyrgios was something like 50th last Wimbledon but is probably in the top 20 players worldwide. Guy just plays the slams so his ranking dips. It will be hard for him to get back there again but he's got the talent to go on another run.

Also the second point about letting the greats win everything....that's how the sport dies lol. Always need new upcoming talent to take the torch. I'm assuming EH has been enjoying himself tonight though 😂

i think it works for some sports and i agree but I think those 4 gone so far off the deep end that they bring more value when they're winning than when new people win. Thiem vs Zverev was one of the worst finals I've ever seen and so many neutrals were just bored of it.

People tune in to see the stars play eachother and break their own records. they keep chanting roger when he's been retired for a while now. Tennis is a weird sport you don't go for a team or a country you go for a player and these 4 have become bigger than the sport.

It's genuinely quite an interesting debate. I believe that in the AFL its better for teams to be even and every club to be performing and contending but I do reckon that the AFL believe that its probably better for the sport for the teams that happen to be doing well to be the teams that more people like. If the top of the ladder was like Freo, Saints, Gold Coast, GWS, Brisbane, North, Dogs you'd have no one rock up to any games and neutrals wouldn't tune in.

Though if Saints feel like dominating for 10 years I would happily say "**** the sustainability of the sport" and enjoy it.

Thiem is boring as hell though. There's exciting young talent coming through. Tsitsipas plays a really physical style and hits it similar to Federer. Alcaraz is the next generational talent, youngest ever world number 1. Medvedev is in there. I'm probably more invested because I support the Greek/Australian/English players and one of them is top 3 in the world.

I don't think Djokovic will dip anytime soon though and these younger higher ranked players will need to work out how to beat him, he's now 11-2 against Tsitsipas and hasn't lost to him in 4 years. These younger guys either need to hope Djokovic gets knocked out in tournaments before he plays them or find a way to get past it.

I thought Federer was the greatest but Novak probably takes the cake now. Disappointed he won against my guy but happy that he won and stuck it up the bellends who didn't allow him entry to the country last year.

was neutral there. Kyrgios as the aussie underdog appealed to the saints in me and barracking for history was on the other side. I'm not specifically a novak fan I'm a big 4 fan. Loved watching Murray, Rafa, Federer and Djokovic smashing the weak.
And what about Stan Wawrinka

I like Rafa don't like anyone else of the big 4 especially Murray and Novak

didn't go for him but respect the hell out of him for his wins in this era. that was a ridiculous performance. surprised you don't like Murray he's essentially scottish Kyrgios
I like Kyrgios because of the way he plays

Murray is too successful, too grumpy, too Scottish for my liking. Did you watch him at the aus open hobbling around like an old man

old mate does have a robot hip and more soft tissue injuries than dan hannebery lol. it was hilarious watching him beat up and knock out a bunch of promising young players in his advanced age.

i like tstitsipas, medvedev, alcaraz they're great. and they'll still be around in a few years. they can win then. I won't suddenly stop watching tennis when the big 4 are all finally extinct but i'll look back on their time the same way we look at the dinosaurs like **** that was cool that giants walked the earth.

Nah we need new blood to challenge these records. It's like saying you'd root for the generation before Novak Rafa and Roger because they're still young and have time. Records are made to be broken always good seeing players get the opportunity to challenge the greats and achieve history in the sport.

im 50/50. something about this generation tells me there's the chance they set such ridiculous records that they'll never be broken. Don Bradman shit. there's something mythical about the Don in cricket. He's revered worldwide and though people come close to his numbers he did it all so much quicker. His average of almost 100 is the stuff of legends.

I wouldn't mind these guys getting to that level and just becoming bible type figures. Let them retire then never compare anyone to them afterwards just leave them in their own league. I love that in cricket no one will ever touch Bradman. Smith, Kohli no one does it they're just the best SINCE bradman. cricket survived that and i'd say his legend looming over everyone adds to the narrative

Who wouldn‘t, Kyrgios is an overrated clown who is unwatchable with his antics. Every second player on the tour would be top 20 if only they didn’t make unforced errors, if only they could keep it together mentally, if only and on it goes.

The only similarity between Federer and Tsitsipas is a single handed backhand. He made way too many really poor unforced errors last night. I was surprised, I thought he had more fight in him but he bottled it and assumed the position when the heat was on. I wasn’t very impressed by the play last night, the second set was poor and the tie breaker worse. Djokovic who usually keeps things very tight on big points made several unforced errors but Tsitsipas just gifted him even more. Djokovic miss hits one backhand so badly you can see it’s about a centimetre from the bottom of his strings, almost wrapped it around the frame on what was a bog average shot so he was pretty tight as well.

This next generation have had a few who looked like they might step up but have generally been pretty disappointing. Some of them need a companion animal out with them to deal with any pressure. They look fantastic when they’re playing some no name then go to water when they meet another decent player. The greats are great not just for the number of slams they’ve won but week in week out over long careers they turn and and rarely loose.

I agree with the unforced errors it was absolutely unbelievable. Maybe a result of Djokovic's play but probably not. I do wonder if he will ever win a slam, seems to bottle it often. Either out early in slams or the two times he's got to the final he's been beaten from 2 sets to love up and last night with the errors.

He’s not quite good enough unless lightening strikes imo. He got to a lot of balls that weren’t particularly difficult yet he put them straight into the net. Now I’m not saying he wins the point even if he makes Djokovic hit another shot but generally the great players make you earn it. McEnroe who is remembered as a fantastic attacking player was the number 1 player for scrambling at one point in his career.

He had a great understanding of the game and made great use of the lob as well as getting the ball down at the feet of a player coming in forcing them to play a low volley or half volley. He was also the number 1 men’s doubles player at one stage and I really think it helped his game, his partner Peter Fleming was a big tall guy with an unusual service action.

Nah Kyrgios is very talented, should be a top player if he had the work ethic.

I don't see how he's unwatchable you just don't like his personality which is fine, I don't like Djokovic and his antics.

And he's currently 20th in the world would be higher if Wimbledon had points

Yeah, Murray seems like he'd sleep in his mothers bed too. He gives off weird vibes. Nick is a show man but with the crazy display of emotion thrown in. It's fascinating to watch even if the tennis is boring.

He’s a genuine top 20 but that’s about it, he has a very good game but others have better games. What makes him unwatchable is the constant carry on and his inability to turn up for every match and handle his business. This is a guy who pretty much tanks from time to time and I find that very hard to warm to.

If you break down his game he has a very good all round game with a great serve but he’s less than elite on return of serve. I have no doubt that‘s more mental than technical but it doesn’t really matter. What gets people high on kyrgious is his ability to get himself up and win against the top 10 which suggests he has the talent to be ranked higher and win slams.

The problem is his highest ranking was 13 back in 2016 and he’s about to turn 28 with a history of injuries and mental problems, I’d also add that the majority of his career has been well outside the top 20. I‘d love to see him have a great year where he turns up and gives 100% in every match. I don’t mind him playing up to the crowd it’s entertaining, just can’t handle the I don’t want to be here crap and his constant abuse of his own support crew. I guess if you’re living off his gravy train then maybe nobody’s told him you’re not an nba player, you’re not gangsta, you’re not a rapper, you’re a tennis player. Work hard, get fit, get a sports psychologist and give this your best shot because it will be over soon enough.

Bottom line is this far into his career potential means nothing and a few memorable wins is a poor return for a genuine top 20 talent Imo.

Rafa needs to get back to picking thing out his arse every 20 seconds, was a much better player when he had one hand consistently up there. Made shaking hands a laugh.

Just bought a mid life crisis guitar and am now in trouble with the wife. I had a 1971 Gibson SG when I was young and always wanted one again so found a cheap 2002 on Marketplace and went and grabbed it. It's going to end up under the bed but so far it's fun pissing everyone off.

We had the attic space in the roof extended and she knows how much crap I store in secret places now. I was on a non toy purchase order. I'm going to be on Hoarders one day.
