Olympics will adapt imo, but the com games are an utter meme nowadays, "Imagine the olympics without all the big nations" is a hard sell.

Women's world cup happening this week is a far better event.

Pole Vaulters are the hottest women's athletes. I will stand by this opinion.

The Olympics have nothing without the Russians. It was peaking as a Cold War dick stretch off. They are putting up shit like BMX and Hip Hop dancing and shit. That's a bleed out. No-one is that keen on athletics any more. It's just not sexy and like a series that dawdles too long between seasons they are out of sight, out of mind too long.

Hence we could do a budget version if they wanted to.
Probably track and field the only facilities that couldn't be easily brought up to scratch easily.

They won't sell enough tickets to cover cost of that even. Our tourism is firing now, we don't need the games any more. Brutal on the organisers but it's commercial reality.

They're going the FIFA route and no one wants to do that and have prestige since then you become legit corrupt mafia instead of just corrupt.

Also, more inclined to winter olympics and speed skating. Chicks with blades.

Last time i only went and saw the rugby 7's one day.
Loved it , would do again.

High Jump is a pretty good watch, a bit of drama and theater about it.
It's the mens 100m for me 😍

Still can't fathom how the athletes get over losing in those events. Wait 4 years for the biggest moment of their lives and in their lifetime probably only get 2-3 goes at it.

Well its the Olympics, so there is a lot of sex in the athletes village which would help.

He wasn't even close to clearing that, was he? 🤣
I was going to say ive never ever seen a professional miss a hurdle by that much, im not sure ive even seen an ammo.

FWIW reading a bit more about it last night...

Seems like Vic Gov pulled the pin based on the regional hubs model blowing out in cost, which makes alot of sense if youre familiar with the current construction climate but it also seems like the CGF and a number of other parties made suggestions to either abandon (or significantly decrease) the regional hub focus and use existing fit for purpose facilities.

If the Vic Gov has abandoned the games without considering viable alternatives then that is shit.

In addition to that if they are still pledging to complete the venue upgrades without the event, that doesnt seem like a particularly wise use of taxpayer funds. Generally venue upgrades like this go on a submission/review basis (we all remember Gladys approving a bunch of stuff for the bloke she was calling daddy). Bulk approvals like what was done for the Comm Games is only ever done for something like... the Comm Games and could absolutely be a probity and process issue if that event isnt being done anymore.

Next time Victoria ( or possibly Australia ) bid on an event, the organisers are sure to take it as a "maybe".

Just on the last paragraph, they need to do "something" in those areas if they ever plan to use them as the infrastructure is just not there to support it at present. Never has been and considering, probably never will be.

I still have trauma from falling over at the last hurdle in school athletics. I looked back and clipped the top of it and face planted. I got booted out of the athletics squad for cheating anyway after that. Set a school record running the tan but had cut through the gardens and some campaigner narked me out.

These days no-one wants the Com games. No-one else is scrambling to take it up. With interest rates going up Governments aren't wanting to stimulate as readily and are starting to nail the coffers closed.

All major events around the world will be suffering similar fates. Unless it's Abu Dhabi or Rihad bidding on them there won't be a lot of takers.

They won't build shit. Those projects won't be completed any time soon. It's just a slow let down.
