I don't mind this one tbh. These things are always a huge waste of money and doing it three years out gives everyone plenty of notice.

Three years is probably right at the 11th hour for major events tbh but it was also the necessary timeframe to properly assess costs and existing infrastructure.

Absolutely the correct decision and I say that as someone who was quite excited to take my son along to some events.

You can’t get things that wrong and just shrug that’s my first problem with this debacle. Secondly I’m yet to be convinced you couldn’t bring it in on budget using existing facilities in both metro and regional locations.

Agree but how do you know there aren't heads rolling behind the scenes? Pretty sure Andrews didn't jump on Excel and do the costings himself.

Yeah I’m not buying that, this guy is a master of lying by omission. I’d love to see how much of that is actual essential to hosting the games and how much was a wish list of upgrades and legacy building projects. Oh well I’m not that fussed about the games but I’m weary of massive cost blowouts, incompetence and spin. How lucky is Andrews that the libs here are completely cooked.

He won’t be happy and I’m sure there will be repercussions but we’ll never know the truth. Couldn’t screw the feds hard enough?, what makes up the 7 billion ? what were the original costing and how do the differ ? was anything sent to tender ? any contracts awarded ?

Anyway it’s all over now and I’m not that fussed about the games just the truth of what really happened from the initial bid to todays decision.

Clearly I'm not a Victorian but funding the Commonwealth games must rank with privatisation, private health insurance, paying corporate consultants instead of employing public servants and conservative government grants - they serve no community good. The Commonwealth games are an obsolete relic of a decayed, and depraved, former empire that is now represented by a quickly crumbling nation.

The world has changed folks. What might have been a good idea pre-pandemic is sheer folly now. At least your government has made the decision to be embarrassed rather than go into further debt for very little return. Wish our government was that mature!
