It's worth trillions of dollars. Religion finds ways to let things go as long as they get their cut. The holiest of retail events will never get taken away, even places like Japan have taken it up. It's like Halloween, no-one even knows what the * it is. Easter is a pagan fertility festival that marks the spring equinox in the northern hemisphere. They had to rebrand it christian because people liked it.

We only care about people religious freedoms when it doesn't impinge on the things that we like. Fooling kids into thinking a creepy guys breaks into houses to leave gifts is too popular to lose.
Thanks again for mansplaining xx

Nah you’re conflating two things. This one’s about an ongoing war in the Middle East which Hamas initiated with a terror attack. Pretty different to Christmas being celebrated only by some cultures or religions - which personally I think is under zero threat.

I was speaking as an aside

But some find Christmas offensive... so watch this space

I thought Santa was magic and a single bloke, you saying he has guys and a mob behind him? Why you ruin the Christmas magic you heathen!

I can deal with him sweatshopping elves and harnessing reindeers for eventual venison meals, but I draw the line at organised crime!

A few people whinging does not societal change make. For the sake of your own blood pressure, ignore it.
There’s always some knob with a really clever idea who decides to have a crack, this year it was marks & spencer with some stupid ad which has since been pulled and apologies issued. I do think many traditional celebrations are under constant pressure these days as the woke brigade find more and more ways to be offended. That has extended to not having Christmas trees or decorating local shopping strips etc. I do think that if people push back it usually ends in a back down but it’s boring feeling under constant pressure, these campaigners are like rust.

That was a shocker. Not sure who that was meant to appeal to.

Who finds it offensive? My kids went to school with Jewish and Muslim kids and they still did all the christian holiday stuff. The only issue was that the non christians background kids told the others that Santa was bullshit.

It's called an opinion sugar-****. Have a little lie down and let the men talk love.
Thanks for mansplaining what a mansplain is. You are a real piece of work aren't ya?

That might be the case but there is also plenty of other people that say that it predates Christianity.

Looked up Baylor and they are a baptist Christian Uni so perhaps not the authority.
There are plenty of people who claim a lot of things, the problem is when some tv chef or the whole foods sales assistant are taken for experts. From what I’ve read many ancient peoples celebrated the solstice which I guess is easy to then confuse with Easter celebrations. I could have quoted any number of sources and Baylor is a respected and highly ranked university.

Yet they are pretty on edge about the opposite.
My son was getting bullied at one point at secondary school , the middle eastern flavoured kid was holding him, saying " say you're a Muslim. A teacher heard him yelling back "I'm not a stupid Muslim". Wow did the shit hit the fan then, we had to come into the office because of our racist kid. Of course if we backed his side of things they'd look at each other , nod their heads and say something about the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Earlier at primary school he'd had a few Muslim friends but they often caught up on the weekends and he was never invited, nor did they accept invites to our place.

My son goes to a Catholic school and his mate is Lebanese born Druze which are some kind of religion with a bit of an each way bet across a range of other religions. His other mates are orthodox Greek and a few Eastern Europeans and Aussies who don't seem to have any religion. Funny enough, my son got into trouble because they were ****ing around drawing on each others blazers with chalk and they were all doing it then roughing each other up. The teacher caught them while they were play bashing the Druze kid and made it into a huge issue. Thought it was a racially motivated bashing despite them all saying otherwise. They were going to make the boys do courses and shit but one of the parents was about to get the lawyers in and they dropped it.

My daughter had muslim friend growing up and her parents used to come to stuff with us and other families and we'd drink in front of them and act like general heathens. They were really open minded friendly people. Always very hospitable and kind when at their place too.

Same with the Jewish kids, they went to sports with us and didn't give a shit if hotdogs were eaten in front of them or expect people to act different. Most people are pretty decent when you get to know them. You wouldn't know it from media though. Israelis and Palestinians are both war mongering terrorist animals depending on where you get you news from. You only notice the extreme ones.

Yep there are arseholes in every culture, and gullible teachers in every school.

Easter was a Pagan festival. When the Christians were there getting their claws into the population, they thought it would be easier to convince the public that Easter was Christianish, than it would be to convince them to forgo their celebration.
