Trump is no worse than Biden or Kamala. That stuff is a distraction. They are all front men for corporations, PACs and special interests. Trump is a more chaotic, loud and uncouth front man but the others are snakes in lipstick.

The left needs to reinvent themselves. They have all moved into the George Bush Neocon centre right and have replaced socialist policy with identity politics. People don't give a **** about trans people when they can't afford to pay their gas bill and a packet of chips costs $8.

I think a lot of people cheering victory will be just as disappointed as people who cheered Biden winning. US hegemony is on a knifes edge and going to need to get more violent and authoritarian to hold on. Biden did that already. Israel has exposed how violent the US has been internationally. People on low wages are hurting through inflation while the government tells them how good the economy is. Whoever is in power is going to have that as a baseline.

The Labor Party will suffer the same fate here. Socialist policy is the only thing that can dial back the economic imbalance. Trump won't fix anything over there and he'll disappoint. Something Covid saved him from last time. Capitalism is kind of ****ed now. It requires constant 3% growth that can't go on forever without importing people but people hate immigrants stretching the thin resources at the bottom.

I've got to the point where I don't get emotional about politics any more. It's not something we have any control over so why worry. There is only a facade of choice.
6:38am and you’re already talkin’ dirty, f*ck I love ya 😈

Each turbine requiring roads to be gouged throughout pristine national parks, 50-100m wide in some points. All that crushed rock quarried and transported in from hundreds of km away...
Yep good point, this too.
First 150m turbine installed a few hours from me got wrapped around a jarrah trying to turn into the property lol.

Of course it only flows one way at a time, what would be the point otherwise!

At the moment it's usually south into Tassie but that's because their hydro has been underperforming, it varies though:

Unless they build more dams or they reduce the population of Tasmania , it will probably remain one way.
Plenty of reasons for 2 way electricity links and they are pretty common. Especially in a renewable grid where supply and demand can get very complicated.

Momentum advertise their Hydro in Victoria, but they typically aren't selling it into Victoria , deceptive IMO.

Im inclined to very much agree with this consensus. The biggest issue about Trump is that he, above all, is incredibly lazy and pretty much fails to go through properly with any of his promises or outsources so much of it that it effectively gets ignored and forgotten about. He is basically a figurehead that's fairly easily manipulated. Their economy is going to continue to look surface level good but the average person's quality of life will continue to diminish.

I think you're 100% right on covid as well. It gave the yanks a reason to boot him before his general poor management of the country came in to roost and the democrats just kind of filled in for a few years without things getting drastically worse.

The only thing that is kind of perplexing to me is the large popular shift to trump this time. That kind of stuff is usually towards the "unknown" contender promising to save us etc.. but Trump is a very much known entity of doing sweet **** all at this point. Externally, Harris seemed like a decent enough candidate, but it goes to show just how finicky the yanks can be about the perception of strength and popularity.

It is about the perception of the economy, when you see prices go up and wages stay the same people want change.

With hindsight I reckon it would have better for the democrats if Trump won in 2020.

A 2nd Trump term would have copped the post coivd economic hit and democrats could have ran a primary and get a fresh face in.

He offers a the idea of change, even if they know deep down he probably won't do much for them. Inflation is a worldwide thing and while the US looks great on paper the crumbs aren't falling to the bottom. Kamala is seen as a bit of a snake and like Labor here they aren't listening to their base.

They want to look like good people but all their policies are aimed at continuing the status quo where big business and extractors take a lot out and don't put much back.

Labor needs to take a good hard look at the result or that will happen to them. Hopefully they drop AUKUS now and put in a real corruption commission with teeth. They need to make some brave moves on negative gearing and stop stuffing around with stupid lightweight policy.

Kamala came across as disingenuous and little bit snaky but her biggest issue was that she was just Biden with ****. People don't want billions spent on wars overseas when they can't afford the basics. The Dems didn't stand up to the arms industry, AIPAC, their corporate sponsors or and other special interest group. Trump says he will and that appeals to a lot. Also the anti immigration stuff in tough times is always a winner for populists.

Bernie would have been a better choice. No-one liked Kamala, Hilary or Biden but they went with the corporate stooge candidates. Like in England where they knifed Corbyn for Starmer. Starmer is more Tory than Margaret Thatcher. He'll be a one term PM.

Was basically discussing just this over lunch with co workers and I reckon youre on the money. In addition it would have been more of the same rusted on republicans as part of it as opposed to these loony "project 2025" guys who are the real worry about America going forward.

Looking at the voter turn out, its pretty much spelled out right there in the sheer lack of numbers showing up how badly the Democrats ****ed up. Its also an indictment on America in general that both sides couldn't be arsed to actually vote for their country properly. Our system isnt perfect but its so much better a representation of the actual desires of the population.
