.... and it's not like there is a lot of upside with Cox, Perkins, Jones and Reid and Draper as well as McGrath, Sheil, Caldwell, and Draper not being injured. A year that we can start with a fairly settled back 6. As good as Stringer has been I think it will be even more effective if he can play like this from the start of the season next year. Now that Parish and Merrett are peaking anyone can move into the midfield and play alongside top 10 mids, with Draper in the ruck and Stringer bullying stoppages.

On top of that, we have moved the ball really well this year ... IN PATCHES. That can be improved to be more consistent next year. We've been caught out defensively a lot, and the coaches we now have will have a list that is full of confidence in them so buy in will be huge as they work on a solid defensive plan this summer.

If you consider the off-season we had and the injuries we had through the year, as well as the 3 very close losses early on, and come away from this year thinking that consistently playing with the 2nd youngest or youngest 22 we're not very good, then there is no pleasing you.

Assuming we win today, win lose or draw next week, I am supremely confident that the boys will make a good account for themselves. We're on the rise and while you can never rule out form loss and injuries hampering our growth there is sooo much upside to this team that even with an unlucky run you should be expecting improvement next year. In fact, it is so bright in my opinion that I believe we're positioned to be playing in a prelim either next year or the following one. After that anything is possible.

.... and to add to that, I do not want the club looking to trade in anything unless something as juicy as a 24-year-old Stringer for a 2nd rounder falls into our lap. Hit the draft again this year and next year (hello Davey boys) then if we still have any glaring holes through 2023 look to trade in.

The exception to this is if we have a player like Francis wanting to go home. In that case, we should be looking for an equitable deal of a player around a similar age.

A loss to Collingwood and missing finals on top of the absolute morons this weekend might have broken old kelvin.

but alas, Saints have done us all a favour and now it's time to hit the top shelf.

Think we will smash Collingwood now. Only way we would have lost is if we needed the win.
