Round 2 – thewizardmelon
Coney Island Warriors : 16.6.102 defeated by Gumbies FFC : 18.9.117
The Warriors stayed at home this week to welcome the Gumbies, a team buoyed by early pundits as one of the favourites to take home the minor premiership. Can the now infamous warriors finally put something in that empty trophy cabinet, instead of having to fall back on ‘individual accolades’ to perk themselves up?
Well, this game was topsy turvy and the impossible was almost pulled off. The Gumbots won the early battle and held an 8pt lead, which quickly turned into a 35pt lead at the half to the Gumbies. Could the Coney Crew respond? Well they responded by winning the third quarter, and had a valiant 7 goal last term that was the stuff you write about during Grand Final week. But alas, the Gumbies held on in a high scoring affair to win by 2 goals. Is Round 2 too early for what if’s? Only time will tell if this loss will come back to haunt the Warriors, or if they will crash out at the same stage of the finals race in S38
BOG belonged to Ocha905 with 24 disposals, 7 tackles, 3.0 and 111DT. Joining him was @TIF on 21 touches, 8 tackles, 86DT and spudmaster (21 disposals, 6 tackles, 90DT). For the winning side, it was a case of sharing the metaphorical load in this Qooty game, with Brick Loosener (21 disposals, 2.2, 93DT) perhaps best afield, and Dory_77 (80DT) and @NSCROW both chipping in with 3 goals each.

Las Vegas Bears : 17.12.114 defeat Roys FFC : 17.9.111
The Bears and the Roys met with plenty of hope still remaining in the season. Tony and Co had new pre-season workouts, and the Roys had also ‘implemented new game plans’. This game was one for the stalwarts of the game that enjoy a true tussle. After an intense first quarter that was all but level, the Bears kicked away to a small half time lead. Las Vegas continued the pain with 6 more majors in the 3rd, sporting a 46pt lead before the Roys decided to show up. Sadly, they left themselves too much to do, falling short by 3 points in a classic encounter.
Cap (24 disposals, 1.0, 98DT) controlled much of the game for Vegas, to go with @Art_Vandeley (7.1) and MWPP (4.5) combining for a whopping 72 points. For the visitors, SpecialBruce (29 disposals, 1.0 and 98DT) was one of few players who played well for the Roys on gamely.

Baghdad Bombers : 19.10.124 defeated by Gold City Royals FFC : 20.15.135
In what was the actual match of the round, these two spearheads went to war in a 39 goal thriller. The Bombers are well known for high scoring games at home, or close games with late fourth quarter ‘questionable camel tactics’, but here in Season 38, the Royals came to FA and FO.
The Royals were up and about from the get go, taking a first quarter lead before the Bombers woke up. The home team hit back, kicking 7 goals to take a slim 7pt lead into half time. It was the Royals turn again in the 3rd, kicking 7 of their own and a further 4 in the final quarter to outlast the rampaging Bombers. 259points scored, with tomjoad (34 touches, 5 tackles, 2.1., 137DT) and @mcgrath_tr (30 disposals, 2.2, 113DT) strong for the losing side. Nothing kicked 5.1 (54DT) for the visitors and manicpie (30 disposals, 6 tackles, 106DT) the best for the winning side.

Fighting Furies 11.11.77 defeated by Sin City Swamprats : 16.15.111
In perhaps one of the least watched yet most entertaining matches of the round, the Rats travelled to the hippodrome to take on the Furies. Both teams exchange pleasantries in the match thread, before exchanging goals in the first half. The Rats clung to a slim 2 goal lead at the main change and like many other games this round, would hold or or extend their lead in all future quarters.
Future defectee philreich would be BOG with 20 touches, 10 tackles and 101 DT, followed by GotTheGoodes (24 touches, 3 tackles, 80 DT). For the losing team, Frothies Mcveigh had 23 touches, 9 tackles and 94 DT, valiant in the early loss.

Mount Buller 21.7.133 defeat Dragons FFC (10.12.72)
Both teams meet in some form, but with Buller always being a tricky away venue, could the Dragons could up there and come home with a result? In what was another campaign full of hope for the Dragons, the Demons quelled any serious threat early, sporting an 18pt lead and 27pt lead in the first two respective quarters. Their forward line had all the answers as the second half they kicked another 11 goals to win comfortably in the ‘Match of the Round’.
A huge 6 multiple goal scorers saw the Demons share the joy around, with Wosh (2.1, 123DT) and DERO (4.0, 114DT) making the most of the opportunities provided to them. cats2rise and moginie also crossed the ton mark, wile purple Jess (3.2, 78DT) was best afield in a below par Dragons outfit.

OOB 11.37.73 defeated by Tarkyn 12.4.76 (and Hawks 21.8.134)
Just a few days after Paul the Octopus was enlisted to pick the winners (OOB) the OOB set up at home for their premiership defense, having had an opening round bye. They were surprised by the typically mediocre Hawks fast start, exploding out the blocks for a 34pt half time lead. Despite the OOB’s throwing around the magnets, the Hawks continued to roll through the game, giving the OOB no chance whatsoever.
Tarks started a strong campaign with 12?! Snags and 138 DT, followed by TY24 (84 DT) and PhenomenalV1 (81 DT) who also ensured they got their season off to a great start. It's only Round 2, but I'm going to predict a team this good might be able to make a grand final soon, maybe against another fiery team or something? We'll see.

Goodness me, we might be the same poster.
The vote-stealing is crazy already!

EKA Medal – Manicpie
The EKA Medal is awarded to the best rookie for the season and is determined via a 3-2-1 vote for all nominees by the teams of the Sweet FA, via the committee.
Over the last couple of seasons the Royals, under the leadership of Cadsky, have been working hard to rejuvenate their list and I think they’ll be very proud today to see they have finally nailed the rookie game by bringing to the club the first EKA Medal since Season 16 with manicpie being voted by his peers as the best rookie for Season 38 pairing a pretty decent debut season with some fun and prominent posting.
ManicPie received a total of 19 votes to take out the award but was closely followed by p4p1 of the Demons (16 votes) and a tie for third with 14 votes, Raz of the Swamprats and Giant YoYo of the Wonders.
Congrats manicpie on a great debut, we all enjoyed you in match threadsView attachment 2188693
