Everyone is talking about getting a big fish next year, is that really what we need to become relevant again?

Surely overpaying for stars to come across will just fill up the cap too quickly, and kick us out of the first round of the draft

Less Daisy's on big bucks and more docerty and jaksch types on reasonable money and more years left imo.

No quick fixes

Would happily give up a first round pick for Treloar if it was a chance to eventuate. Plus, I don't think he would be on Daisy like coin. I agree that we shouldn't look for quick fixes, and I don't think the club will go down that path. However, if Treloar asks for a trade back to Melbourne that would be an opportunity to good to pass up on.

SOS will fine tune team structure development , at long last we have a specialist to do the job.
Should, Treloar, Shields or any other quality young player with genuine potential become available they should be strongly considerd. It's crazy to think otherwise, it' s a fine balance.
It will take a few years to regain credibility and our rightful position at the top, the picecs are being put into place, let's be patient. LoGiudice, Trigg , and Mackay wil bring us forward.
Ciao

He'd still be a FA if he had signed a 3 year deal - just would come out of contract one year later. No difference between a 2 year or 3 year contract. He'd be a FA when both of those contracts finish.
Thats it really... it's just that his manager wouldnt get the taste of the big FA contract until a year later. He signs the contract for 3 years, it'll be less than a 2 year contract and the first year of the first year of his FA contract.

And I bet that with Yazz's talent, his manager would be frothing at the mouth at the thought of the offers that are going to get fielded for him.

Thats why I reckon that Yazz needs to arseh*le his manager and deal with the club directly... all he needs to do is take in a lawyer to vet the contract and he will be ok.

Yep, think I remember reading that myself. Thinking the manager might be putting word out that Yaz may be keen on leaving in 2 years to drive his price up. Chris probably doesn't have any intention of leaving as long as we're performing.

Bloody player managers these days, gets more like America by the year. Let's hope Yaz gives this one the Chaminda and signs that extension. Maybe you should take over Dram...
I cant even manage myself... how the **** am I supposed to manage the careers of highly talented footballers.

I agree that treloar is a gun and it would be good to get him, but the cost needs to be considered.

Say we get pick 7-11 in the draft, will that be enough? No way. We'd have to cough up a fair bit more than that in a trade. Plus treloar would be giving us a big discount if he signed with us for 600k, he could get close to 800k on the market.

It's all well and good to act like mathesons and say lets get treloar, but he's not coming cheap, and the price we pay, cap space and what we give up in the trade table, might leave us worse off

So his manager is trying to get him as much moolah as possible and you reckon Yaz would be unhappy with that? :s

If I was a player I'd certainly want to be coming out of contract as soon as I'm an eligible FA, best way to pocket the most.

Don't we have room in our salary cap after offloading mclean, robinson, garlett, ect?

Agree. We shouldn't sell the farm to get him. If he comes within our range and picks us, then we should try to make it happen otherwise we continue to embrace the draft and develop our list that way. Treloar 800k? That's an awful lot for a kid who no doubt will be a gun but is just a midfielder. KPF contexts always get inflated due to the limited number of good ones available.

His manager is going to try and hold the club to ransom and get as much of a commission as he can get... he isnt doing it in the best interests of Yarran. He is doing it for himself. He knows that he has his hands on a genuine star who has charisma and x-factor and would be worth a fortune to any club.

However, I think that Yarran wants to stay at the club, he isnt interested in moving back to WA (especially with Michelle being based in Melbourne as well) and the only other place he might consider would be Adelaide (because as someone else pointed out, Michelle is from SA). I think that he will sign for a good salary at the Blues and decline to consider offers from other clubs. He has no reason to want to leave the blues.

I think all but the most altruistic of players wouldn't mind the 'what if' scenario lingering for at least a little while - even if he had zero interest in actually leaving. He may as well see if a better deal is possible.

Leaving it until the 11th hour is less cool, though. Our membership numbers are low enough without killing off supporters with trade/free agency-induced heart attacks.

Warnock, Carrazzo and Juddy may just call it a day too .
All sizable contracts, to be either be renegotiated or they may leave quite bit of room to wiggle in.
Ciao

..........and Waite.
We'd have room but maybe we just don't wish to say how much.

Judd & Carrazzo may also free up some money next year............quite a bit of money, next year.
I also thought we had money to do 2 'daisy' size contracts. So did we spend that on re-signing our FA's?

We'll have money but we may have factored that in for 2015 and not this year.

Kreuzer and Henderson are really the only big ticket items we must sign on next year.
That's not to take it away from the other guys that will come out of contract, but more a matter of priority.

If we lose either of those, I will spew. Though I did say I would leave the country if Tony Abbott became PM and that's shown me up to be a big fat liar...

:D Not to worry. We should have all left the country regardless of who was elected....unfortunately though, it's not any better elsewhere.....maybe it's just the system we've opened our arms to. Don't start me!!!

I'll join in with you....especially if it's Lachie. I could possibly see a scenario where Kreuz leaving could eventuate but it's based on nothing but me being a pessimist.
