Actually don't mind the idea of Laidley being the 'coach' and Bomber/Goodwin being the tacticians.

u wot m8?

Let's take Laidley away from his strength and put him in charge of his biggest weakness.

I know he is a complete flog so apologise in advance for posting his comments, but Greg Denham just reckons on SEN that he is positive Bomber will be the interim coach next year, reckons the club will talk him around in the near future.

& really do not want Laidley anywhere near the club.

Neale Daniher stepped aside from WCE today citing health reasons.

Interesting.

He'll actually be spending time focussing on his health. He won't be leaving to take on a bigger role at another club. We might find a token job if he wants to be closer to family in Melbourne.

Yeah, Neale strikes me as the sort of bloke who wouldn't use that sort of an excuse to bail on his club. I wouldn't say no at all to him coming to Essendon though in any role, he managed to get Melbourne to a bunch of finals series'.

That's saying something, even if their list at the time was a damn sight better than it is now.

Agreed. My immediate thought was the c word. I really hope I'm wrong.

Same but he is staying on working (albeit in a much reduced capacity) so it could be something entirely different. Whatever it is, I wish him well...

Simon Goodwin on being interviewed for the Brisbane Lions coaching role: "I want to be a senior coach and I feel like I'm ready now."

Goodwin tells SEN he will be a part of Essendon coaching process, starting next week. Admits some "collateral damage" after this year.

I'm really disappointed in Goodwins's comments in the afl.com.au report. It really makes him sound like a mercenary. Good luck to him applying for the Brisbane job but after his comments (as reported) really don't want him to warm the seat for Hird next year. And at the same time was kind of liking the idea of him becoming the longer term head coach if Hird didn't want to come back because he'd stay the course... Man... So confused now...

ambitious coach displays ambitions to coach. shocking stuff.
Yeah, I get that. I just think if he really wants the Essendon job for a year, he wouldn't have been that obvious with his senior coaching ambitions publicly. It's like he is challenging Essendon to give him the job or else he'll go elsewhere. And in that case, Knowing that Hird is back in 12 months it makes me uneasy now, in wanting him to take over the reigns for the year and sticking to the plan.

Does that make sense?

I disagree.

It's like what I have stated before - Goodwin knows that if he takes the senior coaching role at EFC, he will be the target of sustained media pressure. This won't happen if he remains as an assitant coach at EFC, or gains a senior role elsewhere.

For example - Wellman wanted the interim Senior role - He would be fine - As he hasn't been involved in the injection of vanity drugs.

Still backing Sean Wellman to be the interim coach for a year.

He is an Essendonian. Was coaxed back to the Bombers by James Hird from a high paying job at the Western Bulldogs. Very well respected throughout the industry whom Hawthorn were very interested in getting at one stage.

He is very well respected by Essendon people and has done wonders with the defense this year. At the VFL games I have spoken to him, he comes across as a very well mannered. down to earth person whom isn't fazed by much.

He is an ambitious coach, as Yaco has said. This would be a wonderful stepping stone for him to get his name out there should he want to go on to bigger and better things.

This talk about getting someone from 'outside of Essendon' is rubbish. It will be an outside Essendon person (Mark HArvey, Neale Daniher as examples) or it will be someone already within the structures of the club (Wellman, Bomber, Goodwin) if, as Tony Abbot says, we're fair dinkum having a crack at a flag, then we need someone who understands Essendon and what we are all about.

Goodwin will interview for any and all senior jobs.. he wants a big seat.. he feels he is ready...

Bit like Gary O'D for the last 10 years.. until he realised his time had passed...

FWIW.. I don't see how the Lions changing from Voss, who had the team slowly tracking to top 8, to an untried coach like Goodwin is somehow reason for sacking a club legend in round 19, or whatever it was...

Makes no sense to me.. and good luck to Goodwin taking the Brisbane job... half the list wants out and they still have some serious structural issues to address.. I would put money on EFC finishing higher than Brisbane again this year.. and the year after that too..!!

GO'D never wanted a senior gig

Surely there's a league-wide "good luck to ya" attitude when it comes to assistants applying for senior jobs. No need to question the loyalty of a lifelong AFC man towards the EFC.
