Ahh the Furies.

We’re arguably looking at the beginning of the end for the Furies as we look back over the last four leadership eras at the hippodrome. Maybe even the middle and the end of the end if we’re brutally honest. But again, I’m not here to judge.

So we find ourselves back in S32 with the terribly brief Bastyy era over before it began. Turns out he should have just stuck with the Warriors after all. Tigerturbulance is still at the club in body, but in mind and spirit he is likely already furiously plotting the Furies downfall. You probably know it better as the Ophidian Old Boys expansion bid.

Oh, and we really can’t discuss this era at the Furies without the rise and fall of the Nerd Club. A PM that quickly engulfed the most edgelord posters doing the rounds at the time, as they set about to emulate the Boys Club in a sad attempt at a clout grab. Of course, they would ultimately FAFO, but I digress.

So come S33 and we are in the peak of Nerd Club shenanigans as the majority of the ill-fated clique had found a home at the hippodrome by this point. The edgiest lord of them all of course being the pirate LARPing TJASTA, who would step out of the shadows of his Furies contemporaries and post a whole lot of crap about shit. Literally.

He was quite oddly joined at the ‘hip’ (let’s keep it PG shall we?) by his enthusiastic squire ImissFrosty, and together the two would frolic their way through the season as the mode du jour of the previously goon swilling, neck punching, dumpster diving Furies was fast replaced with e-girl simping, fangirling "based"ness, and Discord cyberbullying.

A pretty big rift had well and truly opened up at this point between this lot and the Furies establishment, which probably would have come to more of a head, had it not been for them spending the entire season campaigning for the death of the league, I mean expansion.

And so as we now know the old boys became, well... the Old Boys. And half of the Nerd Club perished in one fell swoop on account of them basically being edgy knobs and pushing the boundaries well past their limits, with no less than 3 players permabanned from the entire site never to be seen again. Well, apart from one of them who almost won a beez with an alt. Some would say that was the second time around too.

Enter S34, and an up and coming James Colorado joins Nerd Club leftover Pickitt as co-captains looking to pick up the pieces, and the cavalry somewhat arrived in the form of omgfridge and NaturalDisaster from the Royals and Warriors respectively to assist. JC would quickly outgrow the need for Pickitt ’s ‘guidance’ and would trade up for omgfridge 's services as the two have brought refreshing change to the post-edge era.

However their engagement & activity has been on the steady wane since they heady heights of their S33 blitzkrieg, and with fridgey seeming to lose his zest for the place they find themselves exactly where they looked to be headed post-expansion after a lean S37 has been ‘hold my beer’d by this season. But Colorado is a good leader, shows a lot of promise and commitment to his club and that’s worth commending in my book.

Thankyou for mentioning my glorious era. I would argue it was momentous in Furies history

Cadsky (again)

Onto the Royals, and we kick things off back in S33 with the former EKA winner and Filth protégé PMBangers in charge in his first and only season at the helm, once again in the midst of the Nerd Club era with Bangers one of their chief architects. Having crossed from the Hawks in a surprise move, the young tyro quickly established himself at Gold City and enjoyed a strong S33 leading from the front.

However just as he looked to have established himself in the Golden Throne, he missed out on a plucky bid to be admin for S34 which seemed to knock a lot of the stuffing out of him, and while threatening to retire, he would actually just take a step back alongside his mentor Filth as the two would throw their support behind the nahnah/CakeEater supremacy.

Two beloved clubmen at the Golden Throne, the odd couple of CakeEater and nahnah just seemed to click, as the two would oversee a fairly no nonsense era for the Royals. Having already begun under Bangers, they would continue to transition their list as the S30 premiership era playing group slowly faded into obscurity and inactivity, or made their way elsewhere looking for new challenges (or full forward slots).

With Marlowe and Kennedy Parker already out the door, spookism, PMBangers and The Filth Wizard would all follow suit in S35. However the Royals didn’t rest on their laurels, and quickly topped up with a plethora of rookies, veteran Golumless coming across from the Wonders, along with the surprise poaching of hotchilli from the Roys to add some effervescence & pizzazz, and with nahnah taking a bit of a backseat during the season the timing proved perfect in hindsight for the prized recruit of former Wonders skipper Cadsky to fill the void, having similarly consolidated the Wonders list in the preceding seasons.

And so CakeEater and nahnah would officially hand over the reigns in S36 for the Cadsky show to begin. He immediately brought across his lieutenant in the formerly shirtfronty Brenton Davy, and with Restricted Free Agent stepping up to vice captain, it heralded a new era at Gold City.

Cadsky would go on to lead the Royals admirably and with several strong melts, as his nearly 3 season long reign at the top saw the Royals continue to add experience to their list in the form of veterans like Footypie32 (who's been a find), Jhye Clark 13 & Uncle Leo, S30ish types like Zevon and my friend and yours, the lovely Supersuns.

But in true Cadsky fashion, he would find a way to melt himself out of the captaincy late in S38, seeing the highly respected GreyCrow and the perennial club saviour and another good friend of mine CakeEater step into the breach and perform manfully. But Cadsky of course can rest easy, knowing he, CakeEater & nahnah across their respective eras have turned over the list substantially, contributed strongly in the committee room and steered the club through to a new generation of Royals.

Tldr- nahnah did a good job and I did a good job avoiding posting team sheets.

GreyCrow being a seasoned campaigner is leading us into a new era.

No idea. Falconista should be so lucky!

We have to go a fair way back to revisit the Gumbies, as the first club whose modern era stretches back beyond S30. In fact is was S27 and a lifetime ago when an up and about BRAB had the whip hand at the House of Gumby, having replaced his predecessor Fryer Tuck seeking to recruit his way out of the 'fold the Gumbies' trope.

And ahead of the S28 season he hit pay dirt, coaxing the reigning EKA Medaliist Barrybran out of the Bears despite looking like a dead set certainty to captain the club post JoshWoodenSpoon. Baz was seeking a greater challenge however and backed himself in to lead the Gumbies out of obscurity and into the mainstream, accepting BRAB & haydo's advances to assume the captaincy for S28 and beyond.

Despite proving to be one of the league's most elite captains during his reign, not to mention one of the competition's greatest contributors, the task would prove more difficult than anticipated from the outside looking in. Baz would go onto to captain the club between S28 & S33, and while enjoying individual success and accolades it was a slow and steady list build that would see a raft of veterans and fringe players through the doors, however activity remained a challenge during this period. Baz would uncover the odd gem in Gumbies lifer GWS Goose and attempted Furies saviour omgfridge, as well as pulling off the prized recruitment of hall of famer beez, complemented by the return of Chat Pile to Sweet FA ranks after a shock exit following their S28 EKA Medal win. This core nucleus would do the heavy lifting during the Baz era, however it gave the Gumbies the much needed credibility they craved.

But with an eye towards succession come S33, Barrybran would lure up and coming Warrior DenieD to the House of Gumby in a surprising move, as he handed the inexperienced recruit the captaincy. However as surprising at it seemed from the outside, Baz would ultimately step back and allow DenieD the space to lead in his own right after what looked like some teething issues internally.

But just as DenieD looked set to emulate his predecessor after an impressive second season in charge in S34 with a season full of media engagement and proactivity, he would as good as disappear and never return to carry the mantle. This would leave another up and comer in Falconista to step in and assume the reigns, and well the rest is history.

DenieD would leave the club in S36, while Falconista would lead very much in the mould of Barrybran, enjoying both club and broader league success as he would lead the Gumbies to just their 2nd premiership in S36 as well as emulating Baz and taking out the beez trophy himself in S37. Falconista has also proven himself to be one of the league's leading skippers during his 4 season tenure to date, as well as being a strong league contributor by assuming the custodianship of the league's ladders with aplomb.
