Dont try and explain how an RFA works to a Geelong supporter they arent up with it
This is what your Head of Football said at the time:

"Adelaide's head of football David Noble said the club was pleased to be able to trade for Dangerfield instead of allowing him to leave via free agency - a method that would have seen the Crows get far less in return.

"All along we were intent on doing what was in the best interests of our club, and we have been able to deliver the best possible outcome," Noble said.

"Securing picks nine and 28 allows us to add some more quality talent to our playing list, while Dean is a young man who has the makings of a long-term player.

"I would also like to acknowledge Geelong for the professional manner in which these negotiations were handled."

But we bent them over apparently.

If they had matched he could have gone into the draft he would have been uncontracted , you dont have to be too smart that it was better to do a trade than either let him walk for nothing or accept a RFA compo

It’s almost semantics except that a player who moves as a free agent is now a free agent every time they come out of contract.

If they don’t exercise that right and are traded as an uncontracted player, then they don’t get free agency the next time.
This is an interesting point. Would Danger still qualify as a FA under the new rules? I'm guessing not? It'd certainly play a part in any RFA deals going forward. Surely, it'd be in the best interests of the player if they wanted to move and weren't matched. Will be interesting to see how these deals go down in the future.

Adelaide didn't help Dangerfield.

Adelaide helped Adelaide.

They did what all clubs would do, they did the best they could for their own club.
No, Adelaide helped him home

Otherwise they would have gone into a bidding war

No point making it messy when he doesn't want to be there

Geelong however only cares if they are the destination - hence all the bleeding hearts when Ablett wanted to come home

IF 14 and 24 are worth pick 3

Why wouldn't Geelong want that

Because in reality it isn't.

Nobody knows what Geelong want yet. Wells may want 1 particular player at the pointy end of the draft or he may like 2 kids late in the 1st round. Until we hear publicly from him, we are all guessing.

Well after you forced him out the door who would want to stay, he was on record he wanted to stay at the Hawks
If he wanted to stay, he stays. Do you think he's the first player to be put up for trade? Breust has turned down multiple offers from multiple clubs. As has Poppy and McEvoy among others. Players are aware of the business they're in, if he cracks the shits just because his name was brought up, that's on him not the club.

Kelly has probably one of the most legitimate excuses to be traded and Geelong doesn't give a shit as long as they get the most value they possibly can. I can guarantee Hawks wouldn't play it so hard.

Getting in early

Gee posters - top 10 pick

WCE posters - 14 and 22

Freo posters - eh maybe

Gee posters - send him to the draft

WCE posters - but last year we offered four elephants

Gee posters - only three elephants offered. Fact.

WCE posters - but Dangerfield

Gee posters - not the same

WCE poster - he's not that good

Gee posters - he's like Wayne Carey but a mid

Normal WCE posters - two firsts, maybe a second with something coming back

Normal Gee posters - OK done

Wow. I'm normal!

I agree, they'd play it even harder, as they've proven to care far less for player welfare.
