$750k a year is an end of first round compo pick … Hopper can walk next year and that’s what GWS will get.

So anything more than pick 19 is a bonus for GWS

ooh I've missed this, we've already reached the 'take it or leave it' stage of make believe bigfooty negotiations. Better watch out Giant Pete you've been given an ultimatum :tearsofjoy:

Go read the first 10 pages of the hopper thread, cats fans telling us all what they will give up for him. Might have been better to wait to see if he actually wanted to come first.
Funny stuff.

it’s not take it or leave it…. It’s RFC giving GWS closer to a fair trade.. if he leaves next year they’ll get less.
They also free up cap space and a player that doesn’t want to be there..

Length of contract is taken in to compo as well is it not?

Not that much.

It got leaked a few years back (AFL doubtless changed it since, but it'd be roughly the same) and it was almost all about the first year (70/80% IIRC) a little about the second and then really nothing.

Trades for non Free Agent players simply does not work like that

You are absolutely deluding yourself that your first round pick won't be part of either the Taranto or Hopper trade

Where do some supporters (from all clubs) get this Dodoro type of delusional that they have the right to lowball clubs (especially expansion teams) and get star players for around 50 cents in the dollar ?

Some truth to this, but the reality is Cotchin's best individual footy was mostly behind him going into our dynasty. In 2017 he became much more team focused and it was amazing in its own way.

Despite that I think both Taranto and Hopper are better players than JOM and although Mitchell has been a great extractor he's never been a big goal kicker etc - something which Taranto can do.

I've got concerns about a 7 year deal for hopper though. I'd prefer he was offered 5 Max and Taranto maybe 6 but who knows maybe that's not enough to get them through the door? Lambert retired with a year to go on his contract due to his body failing so I think he forfeits that money or at least some of it.

Lambert was out of contract this year. He didn't retire with a year remaining, but we were probably expecting him to go around again (at the start of the year) so would have been expecting his $'s in our cap for next year.

contracts are a bit long imo but the concept is excellent, a few old heads with one or two years left, a few stars with one or two more than that forming the core of the team along with a slightly younger again hopper and tarranto joining bolton and baker, should keep them up and about for another 4+ years.

last year's draft work means they haven't entirely sold the future for the now as the hawks and WC did.

I’ve said I’m happy with pick 12,19,30 and a future 1st plus a player …

But I’ll spell it out again … pick 19 is pretty much all GWS gets for hopper next year if they wait.
Our deal … what ever that is…. Will be better than that deal for GWS.

My mistake and apologies, yeah I think pick 19 for Hopper is fair, even if he is contracted.

Tiges will be trying to do 12, 30, future 1st, player for both TT and JH

Will more likely end up as 12, 19, future 1st, player for both TT and JH, and a late pick or 2 coming back.

Wouldn't be shocked if GWS turn around and say here are a few decentish picks we aren't going to use, give us 19. We give them 19 and then can trade back into the 2nd round this year and next. We lose some draft stocks this year but gain next year.

GWS get an almost silly draft position.

Agree 12,19,30 future 1st

Taranto Hopper 39, 57,59

Maybe a player in the mix
We'll probably only need 2 picks this year. If we're giving up 4 picks, I'd rather...

Lose: 12, 19, 30, future 1st

Gain: Taranto, Hopper, 39, 40-55 pick that GWS may have from other trades, GWS 3rd round pick next year. We need potential points for Charlie Naish next year.

Thats around about what I'm thinking too. If a player is involved then we maybe get a bit more back. If we can trade 57 and 59 to someone that needs points this year into a pick in the 40's, I reckon we'd be pretty happy going into the draft with a couple of 40's picks to target some sliders that have issues but have upside.

And it's quite likely that GWS will swap pick 19 for a future 1st thereby satisfying their wish for 2 x 1sts for Hopper, 12 + 30 is about right for Taranto.

More likely, this.

And as someone suggested, we'll likely trade #19 for a future first round pick to a club that wants that first pick of the second night.

Essentially three firsts and a second the total outcome is a reasonable outcome for the losses incurred.
