As we head in 2011, I think that it is time that, after months of calling Gary Ablett "Judas" and such other rude names, that it is time you all got over it.
Many of you claim that you KNEW that Gary Ablett would join GCS at the start of the season. All year you criticised the guy, presuming him guilty before the fact, and have carried on with the same snide put-downs for the last six months. So why was it a surprise when Ablett did what you said he would do? He only lived up to your expectation. Why are you disappointed? It's not like a lot of you actually thought for a minute that he would show some loyalty, and instead bagged his character, committment, had a go at his family and girlfriend, and said all sorts of horrible things that I didn't expect from Geelong supporters. It was behaviour by you more fitting of Collingwood or Richmond supporters. But I thought we are better than to pot our own.
In this new year, I say that we have no more discussion on this. Just ignore seeing Gazza in his new jumper, and don't watch GWS games. Instead focus on who is at Geelong in 2011. Ablett and Thompson will be the poorer, as they will miss out on all the great things Geelong will achieve in future years, such as an exciting new coach in Chris Scott, and future stars like Taylor Hunt, Daniel Menzel and Mitch Duncan.
I know where my focus will be in 2011. Not on what Ablett or Bomber do next year, not on whether Bartel has signed, might sign or hasn't signed with GWS (I hope he re-signs with Geelong, though). I want to look at the future and what 2011 will bring us, not what 2010 couldn't. The past is only worth reflecting on when we want to think about our 2007 and 2009 premierships, and other achievements. Spending months bagging people who are not longer part of our club is wasted. So, let's put the personal abuse aside, and as one, support the greatest footy team on earth. We will be great again, and no one player or coach's defection or lack of loyalty can stop it.
