As we head in 2011, I think that it is time that, after months of calling Gary Ablett "Judas" and such other rude names, that it is time you all got over it.

Many of you claim that you KNEW that Gary Ablett would join GCS at the start of the season. All year you criticised the guy, presuming him guilty before the fact, and have carried on with the same snide put-downs for the last six months. So why was it a surprise when Ablett did what you said he would do? He only lived up to your expectation. Why are you disappointed? It's not like a lot of you actually thought for a minute that he would show some loyalty, and instead bagged his character, committment, had a go at his family and girlfriend, and said all sorts of horrible things that I didn't expect from Geelong supporters. It was behaviour by you more fitting of Collingwood or Richmond supporters. But I thought we are better than to pot our own.

In this new year, I say that we have no more discussion on this. Just ignore seeing Gazza in his new jumper, and don't watch GWS games. Instead focus on who is at Geelong in 2011. Ablett and Thompson will be the poorer, as they will miss out on all the great things Geelong will achieve in future years, such as an exciting new coach in Chris Scott, and future stars like Taylor Hunt, Daniel Menzel and Mitch Duncan.

I know where my focus will be in 2011. Not on what Ablett or Bomber do next year, not on whether Bartel has signed, might sign or hasn't signed with GWS (I hope he re-signs with Geelong, though). I want to look at the future and what 2011 will bring us, not what 2010 couldn't. The past is only worth reflecting on when we want to think about our 2007 and 2009 premierships, and other achievements. Spending months bagging people who are not longer part of our club is wasted. So, let's put the personal abuse aside, and as one, support the greatest footy team on earth. We will be great again, and no one player or coach's defection or lack of loyalty can stop it.

Oh dear. Hendo I feel this forum is just becoming a place for us to view a man (you!) who is unravelling in the most spectacular fashion.

How about as a general rule if the post is going to be about Ablett or Thompson you decide not to post it and think of another topic?

Pull yourself together man!

I check this forum almost everyday, and can say over the last couple weeks I haven't even noticed that kind of talk about Gary or whatever. Selective clicking OP, works a treat and regardless, seriously it is pretty muted about all that at the moment.

Apart from the naked Saints thing, which is entertaining on the main board and the bay.

I don't think this board needs a bridge, I think you need to ignore the small population of Geelong posters that are giving Gary and Bomber a go.

And that small population will probably never go away/let up. So no point even engaging or trying to reason with them IMO.

Yes...exactly.

He is no longer relevant to the Geelong Football Club.

I suggest all future Ablett/Thompson threads be directed to the Bay....or the main board for this very reason.

Carry on.

Im not sure if you even have a job, but if you got offered a 75% pay rise, you would take it.

Shut up and move on.

Good and exciting times ahead for the GFC in 2011.

Bring it on.

End of topic!

Let's just shut the whole forum down and not watch footy. I appreciate most of what you wrote but the fact remains that supporters will always have an emotional attachment to this footy club. Coaches, players, even champions come and go but we remain Cat fans.

Logical appraisals of emotional scenarios make as much sense as a team in Western Sydney.

regards,

REB

Thread summary:

*Henderson wrong about Ablett all year
*Henderson offended by constant reference to Ablett family's extensive history of self-serving behaviour
*Henderson feels that what is good enough for him is good enough for everyone
*Huge amount of cognitive dissonance to fill in the gaps in reasoning

Now you have gone way too far, some things can never be forgiven. I will never forgive ROD BLAKE for having a son no matter what happens.

Well put.

It makes a lot of sense. Let's create a football forum - for voicing opinions, then complain when the opinions differ to your own.

Gotta say I agree. People need to let it go and be bigger. Watch this video of Lebron's return to Cleveland and ask yourselves whether Cleveland fans did themselves any favours. This is what we look like from the outside in.

The difference between LeBron and Gaz is LeBron left Cleveland to play in a championship team, whereas Gaz left as he'd be getting a hell more money to head north. We all might say we'd be loyal to our current employer, but I think we'd all find it difficult to turn back such a lucrative pay rise to do the same work elsewhere.

LeBron on the other hand basically told his teammates they weren't good enough to win a championship, so he decided to go to a team where he thought he would get that chance.

Who cares? We're not Cleveland, we're not American. I couldn't give two shits about Lebron James or anything else to do with basketball. Totally irrelevant.

Ablett chose to put money ahead of anything else, that's fine, he's entitled to do that. And we as GEELONG fans are fully entitled to despise him for it.

True, but whatever the reasons, from the outside, bitter fans just look like bitter fans.

It could be said that with 2 premierships we've got more to be happy about.

And you're entitled to look bitter. I'm going to focus my energy on supporting the players that stayed.

lebron is a douche, he quit on his team against the celtics in the playoffs last season. 2-3 years ago he took a team with doc gooden, larry hughes, donyell marshall, scott pollard, ira newble, etc to the nba finals. with better pieces around him the cavs should have pushed the celtics.

and to televise "the decision (in actual fact an hour long informercial on ledouche)" really rubbed the cavs fans wrong way. i can understand their dislike of him.

Hmm I've given serious thought to your proposition Hendo, I've crunched the numbers and run it up the flag pole to see who salutes and came to the conclusion that I am in fact small minded, vindictive, petty and bitter, so yeah nah.

May we smash the bald headed two faced lying twerp into custard when we play whatever fake franchise it is that he plays for.

p.s choke on a sandwhich Thompson.

Merry Xmas all!

As will I. When we hit the field in the NAB Cup, and again in Round 1 versus St.Kilda, all my thoughts will be on the 22 players that take the field. Don't know who Gold Coast are playing and don't care.

But, when mindless opposition fans ask what I think about Ablett (and we all know they will), that's the response they'll get.

There's nothing better in forum frolics than a perfectly timed, beautifully written slice of scrumptious irony. Beth, I think I love you!!!!!:D:thumbsu:

Merry Xmas to those who believe in Santa and happy festivus to the rest of us.

love the insult - so clever

how about you shut your own trap - or maybe your mummy can do it for you

THE ABLETT SITUATION WAS NOT AS SIMPLE AS RECEIVING A 75% PAY RISE. HE CHASED IT HARD, AND THERE WAS HISTORY OF THE EMPLOYER GOING OVER THE ODDS TO ASSIST YOUR FAMILY WHEN THERE WAS NO OBLIGATION.

IT WAS NOT AS SIMPLE AS YOU MAKE IT. OR IS IT MAYBE YOU ONLY UNDERSTAND SIMPLE THINGS.

geelong will always be awesome
but we dont need a preacher to tell us how to feel and what to think

if you want communism go to china

OK, so who gets a flag first, GC or Geelong?

If THAT is the issue, Ablett probably made the right choice.

Devastated that I won't be watching Gary jnr playing every week. He is the best player of his time.
Furious with the club for allowing Thompson to bully and publicly humiliate him all year, furious with the club for not signing him up last year after he won the Brownlow.
We cannot ignore the fact that Geelong has lost its most marketable asset.
I wish him several Brownlows and lots of success in games.
Still want Geelong to win the 2011 premeirship.
