Speculation Tom Barrass [UFA 2027]

I was merely stating that TB is no way worth two first, if Bailey is worth one. Especially when you take into consideration their age and injury concerns.

Fair deal is a our first and 2nd for TB and Eagles 3rd.
Bailey and TB are worth a similar value. Anybody saying Bailey is worth pick 20ish is having a laugh.

If that logic held up with OOC players then Liam Baker would be worth a 3rd round pick which I dont see the media bringing up.

Take out that 3rd going back and you have a decent proposal for TB, unless you guys keep winning. We aren't just taking scraps in the late teens for an A grader KPD

comparing tb with smith? market value is completely different for talls. look at what they're paying mac andrew and ben mckay ffs.

i think a lot here forgetting about west coast are not pushing barrass out on the fact they have to pay the cap floor which is the single worst thing the players assoication have come up with.

west coast may genuinely need to keep barrass, who else are they paying? mcgoven, kelly, yeo, allen, who else deserve the coin? darling off to north, gaff is done, reid not extending yet.

they can also offer to pay some or all of his salary for a better deal. if they're in a draftee acquisition phase and struggling for the cap floor it makes a lot of sense if they can squeeze a better pick out of it somewhere

Also weird fun and games can be had with going under the floor and then banking that to be able to go over in another year. The type of thing that would make sense for west coast if for example they planned to back up a dumptruck of cash to someone like Warner once he hits free agency and put his salary out of reach of SYdney

A club with an uncontracted player has more leverage than a club with a contracted player

Learn something new every day I guess

Yeah that's some wack ass Poos and Wees logic lol

There is no way in hell Doggies have a better bargaining position for Smith as an OOC player who hasn't played in 12 months and basically wants the place to burn down (his instagram posts have just been...yeah not good lol) over Eagles with Barrass who by and large is a professional.

Barrass is also:

1. A Key Position Defender (key positions are always more valuable)
2. Very Good (good long track record of consistent footy)
3. Contracted (this is a big one)
4. Being offered a 5 Year deal on very good money (Phil Davis said it yesterday on SEN...the most expensive thing to do is drag a player out of another club)

That criteria puts him in the two decent first rounders range.
Smith is more in the 1 decent first rounder and change range.

The team with a contracted player will always have more bargaining power than an uncontracted one.
Never ever heard it differently.

WCe arent leaping up the table and Barrass will be worth far less next year.

If the requirement is ridiculous the deal simply wont happen.

It will be our 1st and something else nice but not crazy. Like Collingwood's sweetener for Ginnivan.

As for Smith, that comes down to whether the Dogs are ok with being pushed around by the Cats. And also belongs in that other thread.

Worth is subjective, Eagles are rebuilding and the dogs are challenging. So you would argue WC would value picks higher than having a player whose getting older on their list, than say the Bulldogs would would value keeping Bailey over getting one pick for him? Yes his OOC but Geelong don't have the first pick in PSD so Bulldogs have leverage to ask for more than one first.

Eagles don't have much leverage apart from TB contract which they would want to be released from if they can get a reasonable pick for. And so hence Hawthorn have leverage to underpay.
I love how Hawks supporters seemingly don't understand how contracts work.

3 years contract, right? That's how long he's got left, hawks chased him. They need to make it happen

WC need it to happen, a 29 year old with a degenerative back who has indicated he doesn't want to be there. Also, given WC are a club desperate to use whatever, asset they have to get early draft picks will lead to WC being given a fair offer but not an exhorbitant one.

Gotta think Bailey Smith on the other hand being 24 years old and with so that marketing talent will probably attract a Tim Kelly like haul for the bulldogs.

Smith is far more likely to end up at Richmond via the PSD than get Bulldogs a decent haul, based on Geelong's stingy trade history and Blogs already threatening to send him to the PSD, as per Twomey.

nothing screams 5 year contract to a 29 year old like 'degenerative back'

Maybe AA forward Jake Waterman?

You're joking right? Kelly nearly won the freaking Brownlow...

One is contracted, one isn't. Contracted means more assets to pry them out.

End of story.

Well in that case so did Dyane Zorko. Tom Mitchell won the brownlow and was traded for a pick in the 40s. So clearly the brownlow has little to do with trade value.

One is 29 with a degenerative back and other is a 24 year old former top ten pick, who given his fitness level will likely be around for another 8 to 9 years.

You clearly are living in some fantasy world. End of story.
