Player Watch Tom Doedee - Departed for Brisbane, End of 1st Round FA Compensation

Was Lever any good at running down and tackling opponents? (I can't remember) Obviously Tom had a spectacular one last game but I seem to recall there have been other chase downs from him.

His rundown against Walters was probably chase of the year in the entire AFL.

Stephenson would be a very deserving winner. Let's not kid ourselves.

Only problem I have with how Doedee is judged is that imo there is too much emphasis on his intercept marking. The guy is cool headed under pressure beyond his years, has great set of hands and is a decent defender (although still has a way to go).

Dont think anyone here is.
In fact most people have said that its a two horse race and both would be deserving winners.

Stephenson is a first year player that has kicked 24 goals so far. Looks well on track for 30+, which would be an amazing return for an 18 year old. He really does hurt the opposition with his electric run and carry. I have no issues whatsoever with Stephenson winning the rising star at this point. That doesn't take away from what Doedee means to us. Doedee is playing equal to or better than a player that just got a $900k/year (edit 4) year contract. If he Tom won the rising star, its just a little cash bonus that I would love him to get. But it has no meaning other than that.
Reckon Hamish would enjoy putting the feather in his cap after the shit he and the club copped from certain sections of the supporter base and media.

Well if he doesn't already know he has that feather in his cap there is something wrong with him. He has absolutely been vindicated without a shadow of a doubt. There is probably only one person on planet earth that would still argue the point and he has run away to the main boards ;)

The rising star doesnt mean anything to me. Its kind of like the minor premiership. It means something, but then a little while later it means nothing.

And bringing up the lead and way out in front we have marty36

Seems like Marty has crawled back under a rock this weekend. Whoever it was that lifted that rock a few weeks ago “Leave the bloody thing alone”.

On an unrelated matter, funny how all the Tools and Trolls who had numb fingers from posting last week have disappeared since three quarter time on Saturday :D.

Only see the Wabbit when we lose badly or Matty or Brad have a less than stellar game...

At least Vader sticks around for Hampton discussion
Vader never said Doedee would be bad, he just said that not playing a game in your first 2 years means you're unlikely to have much of a career. He's right too, the stats show exactly that.

Doedee has bucked the trend. Good on him.

That happened a few years back with Jeremy Cameron and Daniel Talia. They ended up lining up on each other late in the season when it had emerged there were two standouts, and Talia held Cameron goalless and went on to win the award.

Pity we don't have a match against Collingwood for the rest of the minor round...

My comment referenced Vaders view on Hampton. It followed on from other posters who fixate on players that will never make it from day dot

No Hysteria

ADELAIDE has implored its fans to hold their fire on shock draft pick Tom Doedee, telling them to “trust us and come along for the ride because you will enjoy it’’.

Why would the Crows ask such a thing of their fans if it wasnt a shock selection. Have they asked the same of the Milera selection? The crows made the selection knowing the media hype surrounding such a selection for a reason, to suggest there is nothing here and move on is ridiculous as the AFC have just added fuel to the fire and entered into the discussion with this statement alone! If there is nothing here, why did they make the statement?
And what a ride it has been. How good was that tackle and goal on the weekend? The walters chase down and cutting off attacks. He is awesome.

Word of advice people: be careful what you post in these threads, they often come back to bite you in a few years.:p
Prescient, salient and crisp.

I'm thinking maybe our recruiting department has seen some talent in him that's not necessarily suited to the position he was playing in. Perhaps a midfield role in the future?
Haha ever so Salient, some red faces for sure if you go through the first 10 pages or so...LOL :thumbsu::fire:

Most of the discussion from what I can see is over whether we should have used pick 17 and not traded back. Seemed to be a bit of overreaction from those thinking we could have got him for pick 25+ meant that they thought he was a dud.

I guess with out injuries even if Lever had stayed he would have gotten a game, but cripes why wasn’t he given a go last year??

I called it pretty early on this year that Doedee is a dark horse for our BnF. A few called me bonkers then, but they completely missed my main point - with our top players off with injuries (MCrouch, Laird, Seeds, Sloane, Ted, Lunch etc) on several games, Doedee can perhaps slide past them due to his sheer consistency.
Love this guy, nothing overly flashy, just good old footy head on young shoulders!
