Well, I'm not as confident, as you appear to be, that Rockliff will end up at St Kilda or Adelaide. I'm just wondering what you think is going to get a deal done that will satisfy Brisbane.

Rockliff is a contracted 26 year old 2 time best and Fairest, All-Australian, club captain. What's he worth? Do Adelaide or St Kilda have the required trade currency? Gibbs will most likely cost Adelaide's first pick.

Would Rockliff take a paycut to go? Or will he be on the same contract? Or will he be expecting more than what he is currently being paid?
Yeah yeah he's good...
What do you suggest would work trade wise?

I disagree. If the conversation confirmed he was staying, they'd be singing it from the rooftops.

But why would they do that and close off all 'godfather offers', when 'everything and anything is on the table'? What if Gold Coast desperate for another couple of established midfielders by the middle next week (and having lost Prestia to Richmond for Pick 6 and O'Meara for something else) suddenly offer Pick 4 and Pick 8 for both Rockliff and Hanley, leaving them with Pick 6 to either take Jack Bowes or another young star, leaving their later picks to pay for a Bowes bid, after Pick 5?

Would we not take that? What if we also somehow brokered a deal for roughly Pick 2 to GWS for Pick 3 and 5 (gained through Marchbank to Carlton), leaving us with Pick 3, 4, 5 and 8 to pick up some Top Ten 'elite talent'? Maybe bid on Bowes with 8, forcing Gold Coast to pay for him with their later picks and moving our later picks up the order.

I'm not for a minute saying the above deals will necessarily happen, but if we say Rockliff is 'definitely staying' and 'not tradeable' then it closes off any possibilities of some good trade offers as we get closer to the trade deadline and some clubs start getting desperate to fulfill their pre-trade goals. And once again I'm not suggesting the offers above will happen, its just an example of a hard to refuse offer.

Sounds a great way to do business if Rockliff has put his heart and soul on the line and committed himself to the club

Culture is more important than the number of the draft picks

That's what they've done with Hanley. Club is happy for Hanley to stay. Hanley is happy to stay at Lions. However if the club finds a suitable deal with a club than Hanley is happy with, then both parties have agreed to let the deal go through. The club hasn't come out and said Hanley will definitely not be traded. And if people are looking for an explanation why Rockliff hasn't been definitely confirmed as 'staying' that may well be the reason.

The Club has already telegraphed they want elite talent through this draft and if the opportunity comes up they will look to do a deal.

I know they're doing it but doesn't make it right

Hard to build a culture under those circumstances

It's right, if both parties are in agreeance and in Hanley's case they are. Some might also argue that the Lions existing "culture" might even improve.

NO.

My StoneKiller Matthews posts are in there

Rest easy Terry, Aish is not up for trade:

Collingwood list manager Derek Hine also moved to quash suggestions midfield pair James Aish and Jordan De Goey could be traded.

"Under no circumstances is James Aish getting traded. Nor for that matter is Jordan De Goey," he said.

"We've spoken to both thier managers after rumours emerged suggesting they could be traded. We wanted to reassure them there was absolutely no substance to it."

St Kilda would be pretty straightforward as they have Pick 10. Adelaide will be much more difficult, trading Gibbs in as well.

Pick 8-12 . His a gun . Someone should snap him up .... Mad not to . I would keep him if I was the lions and pay him close to what he wants . His worth more than Gibbs and Prestia .

The message from club re Hanley is transparent. With Rockliff it's all secret squirrel business. Why?
'We won't say anything else about what were private conversations' = gone

If they wanted him to stay, they would have said he was a required player. Early second rounder - Brisbane, welcome to the school of negotiating by David Noble

I can't see too many clubs being in a position to offer market value in terms of picks and having cap space to accommodate Rocky's lofty demands.

If Brisbane got a good offer they'd jump at it but they won't flog him off for a 2nd rounder.

Have heard that the Eagles are into him, hes just contemplating giving up the captaincy/moving west to be back with his best mate Redden and to get a fresh start.

With Mitchell coming it I doubt we are into him however I'd take him in a heartbeat, he and Mitchell into our midfield would do wonders.

I think the only chance a club has a crack now is one who just cant wait another year.

Adelaide were in that position prior to Gibbs, so unless they are preparared to go all in and trade a future first round plus extras, that move looks unlikely.

West coast is a chance, they have been sniffing around the premiership cup for a couple of years and on the surface apear to lack real quality in the middle. Might be a good move for them?

Doesnt quite make sense for those younger rising sides like Melbourne or St Kilds as they have time on their side and could have a real crack at him with F.A next year.

Gold Coast is still a possibility as they have stated they want experianced mids to replace OMeara and Prestia.

Im going with Brisbane 50% chance, Gold Coast 30% and West Coast 20%.

Disagree.

Boyd was also off-limits, untradeable.

The only reason you would not get those above deals is because the deals are unlikely, not because Brisbane said Rockliff is untradeable.

Correct you cant just suddenly make cap room for big salary players in the second week of trade negotiations. It takes a lot of forward planning. The longer it drags in the lower Rockliffs trade value becomes because it just gets too hard. I expect I will stay a Lion because his trade value is not as high as the Lions thought it would be.
