They want him to stay. He wants to go, desperately it seems.

I understand that, but the club's comments today paint a completely different picture. Your club is trying to convince Rockliff about the ways in which it will improve, not the other way around.

I will say though, that the recent noises from the club indicate that despite the off field stuff, Brisbane wants to make it work and are trying to convince him that the club is doing the things he would need it to do to consider staying. Sounds like he wants to cut ties, though. Probably best for everyone. Some relationships are better off ending.

Nope, sorry. That's way off. Petoro (Rocky's manager) has been the most insistent that Rocky's staying. The club's comments have been highlighted by a lack of commitment to Rocky, including comments like "anything's on the table" and "if Rocky's here next year" when asked about Rocky.

Of course he would. He's a manager. He's just playing the game. Bigger payday if Rockliff is "convinced" to leave and courted by another club.

So apparently we offered up Greenwood and requested the Lions pay a portion of Rocky's salary next year. I can't believe the Lions turned down such an amazing offer! :drunk:

Maybe gubby Allen was reading the shit trades thread
Apparently the Lions wanted to make it Rocky for Frost, but we felt that Frost has more value and wanted a seperate trade done.

Well it seems like it has been his manager who has been shopping him around so as the saying goes, lying is the second language of the AFL.

Two stage process.

Manager shopped him around earlier in the year (that was generally confirmed), allegedly for a $800k pay packet (less confirmed). No interest. This was then followed by the manager/player/club summit mid-season.

Since the end of the season, it's basically been completely reversed. Club has been shopping him around (also generally confirmed), allegedly for a top 15-20 pick (less confirmed). No interest.

So next year will be interesting. :drunk: It's like both members of a couple attempted to get a divorce but both somehow failed.

Barrett on Rockliff again.........

Cant even get 35 for him.....

Barrett: "... they'll take it. As it stands, no club is prepared to do that. Says a fair bit about where he's at."

That is complete and utter rubbish. Do AFL 'journalists' not listen what list managers say? Schwab has been very clear the Lions are looking for picks in the top 25. They'll trade Rockliff if the offer is good enough, but for "any pick under 35"....please.

Both testing Rockliff's market value. I'd say the conclusions from both fishing expeditions will go some way to determining if Rockliff extends his contract with the Lions, both in amount and length.

Roy, re Pies and Rockliff I suspect that a good guide to our interest will be what happens re Frost. Clearly he is not worth Rockliff but you would think he would be part of the deal. In reality the Frost trade should be pretty easy so if it is delayed you can assume we are still interested.

I don't know the Frost deal is that easy given that Brisbane now have no picks between Pick 21 and Pick 78 (the latter of which will be used for Archie Smith). I doubt Rockliff will be involved at all. If Brisbane picks up a later draft pick (e.g roughly Round 3-4) through another trade, then that will be used for Frost.

Absolutely amazing that a player of Rocky's quality has no interest at that price.

Obviously there are issues, but he is a gun.

If Mitchell can go for basically pick 88, anything can happen. We world is not how we knew it.

Why?*

*Honest question!

Hmmmm..... that would involve accusing him of some fairly average behavior on a public forum - so I'll say nothing.

Gut feel is that there are two kinds of clubs:
- Those that have the salary cap room.
- Those that are in their finals/premiership window.

Him becoming available relatively unexpectedly has probably meant no one who could justify recruiting him factored in having the cap space to be able to recruit him.

Slightly misleading there, as pick 78 isn't locked in to anything. Archie gets upgraded with whatever our last live pick will be - whether that's 78 or 178, it doesn't matter.
