It actually affects the AFL as a whole. It compromises the draft system and keeps the bottom teams down when they can never acquire established players, because it means that teams like Hawthorn can give up whatever they want and teams like St Kilda can propose to give up the farm, but never actually acquire anyone due to their relatively low standing. It means that the draft becomes meaningless because teams like Hawthorn never have to give up high draft picks, because the system has dictated that they can acquire players for less because of nomination by the players.

It doesn't surprise me in the least that nearly all the Hawthorn supporters in this thread have little to no integrity at all. As I previously said, you'd all be screaming black and blue if you were a team like Gold Coast or St Kilda down the bottom of the ladder.

Except in that scenario I am willing to bet they could have found 6 other Victorian clubs who would have taken his entire salary and given a much higher draft pick as well. Scully was only on about $500,000 a year at GWS.

But no one has a clue what hes on for next year, they had to fit a a lot of players in recently, he could easily be backended and on 800 next year. Yes other clubs may have offered more, but hes under contract and didn't have to leave.

Don't recall any outrage when Hawks did a salary dump and traded our 1st and 2nd in the B&F for peanuts in 2016. In fact, all I recall is mass ridicule directed at Hawthorn and Clarkson's expense.

You probably already know GWS cap is nearly $2m over for 2020.

Their mismanagement is another teams gain. Particularly if a team has been prudent in cap organisation, and unexpectedly lost a high paid player (Rioli)
