Autopsy Toothless Bulldogs overcome Norf in a game not for the ages

-Norf are decent team but will still dominated general play.
-Forward line lacked chemistry. Makes sense with Darcy and Naughton out for long time.
-English was just awful. Can't believe we are offering him a long term contract.
-Marra was all over the place but at least was trying to make things happen. It will click for him soon
- Lobb was great but holding fire until he faces some bigger challenges.

Ugly game and shouldn’t have been as close as it was.

Too many stupid turnovers gifting them goals.

Lobb was very good and deserves a lot of credit.

Just glad to get the win and not be amongst their ****ing supporters screeching about the umpiring every two seconds - ironic cheers at every free kick to them, Weightman being booed for twice nearly being decapitated.

3 votes M........ Bontempelli for brownlow night. Should be pretty close to leading it by now

Cody Weightman is seriously underrated

Bont another star turn. Hopefully on his way to 10 consecutive 3 vote games to end the season.

Lobb was good, but we need to see him against a decent side and not Norf’s VFL quality talls (other than Larkey, who got an absolute bath from Jones).

Naughton and Darcy were both solid and will be better for the run. Weightman just kicks goals against Norf for fun. 18 in 4 games.

Bramble was good, did some courageous stuff. Has deserved his spot the last few weeeks.

English was really poor. Xerri looked like a man playing against a boy. He’s one that will need to be much better next week.

We didn’t seem to get out of second gear the whole second half. Perhaps we were a little conservative coming off the bye. Some of the turnovers at half back gave me flash backs to the Hawks game, shockers.

All huge games for us now. Let’s see if we can earn a final.

That game was hard to watch but will take the win. We dropped so many marks. We were lucky we played the Kangaroos as a better team would have punished our numerous turnovers. Move on to Port.

Throughout the entire game, all i was thinking was what could we get for English ? He provided NOTHING, again.

Lobb/Darcy would be a better ruck tandem than English/Darcy.

We looked rusty, hopefully this sharpens us up.

Kudos to Bramble, I've whipped him like yesterday's favourite in the past, but that was probably his best game for us.
Was Bramble better than last week?

A win is a win is a win is a win.

Month between games for Darcy and Astro showed. Always a raffle with coming of a bye too.

Weird amount of short kick errors from normally reliable kicks.

Good sides win when they play poorly.

Glass half full as they won the game and they showed consistent effort.

The good stuff first

  • Bontempelli at 55% is better than most players going at 100% - Should have had 35 and 2. Clearly the best player in the competition. Second isnt close.
  • A fairly even contribution in the middle of the ground - we dominated stoppage and clearances and ruled possession other than the last 10 minutes.
  • Im not by any means a Lobb fan but he had a great game in defense. No doubt this will be the 25th "maybe hes turned a corner" game of his career. It helps when the opposition's entries are so poor. I suspect we get found out doing this against a good team.
  • VDM and Richards really worked hard, applied pressure, and tackled well across the ground. Weightman put in some serious yardage too.
  • Sanders was decent without being extraordinary. He lacks confidence in his disposal which to me looks completely fine. Once he starts making more instinctive decisions and taking the first option he sees, he'll be a star.
  • The team competed hard despite the bye. A lot of weird results after byes for other teams but they seemed relatively dialled in.

The bad

  • The balance of this team is wrong. Again, stupidly tall. Still lost the contested marks anyway. The coaches seem intent on shoehorning a massively tall lineup in there and playing guys out of natural position. Surely we'd benefit more from getting some confidence in Caleb Daniel and his ground ball ability and his ball use in the big team, instead of forcing it with a team of trees.
  • This isnt for a lack of talent but theres still no flow to our ball movement in a lot of cases. The forward line get in each others way, and dont know where to go. This causes disfunction up the ground with the ball carrier and the decisions arent immediate or predictable for anyone. We simply have to have a new forward line coach next season.
  • The defense looked particularly shakey when the ball hit the ground despite holding them to a low score. It will get punished against a better team. This is linked to the above really.
  • English may aswell have been Joe Biden out there. No timing to his jumps, slow to the contest, feeble physicality. He has these absolute stinker games every 3 or 4 and it is infuriating. Xerri pantsed him today.
  • Jamarra is the perennial "kicked 2 but should have kicked 6" guy. Awful dropped marks and missed opportunities. A big part of being a good forward is being opportunistic and he just isnt that. Its worrying that its still not clicking.

Good news is I’m not sure any of his main competitors from the other game will get votes (Heeney, Gulden, Warner, Serong).

Didn't look like he wanted to be out there. At least Marra tried today. English will cost us games this year
Marra dropped 3 sitters and another gettable mark. Remember Bob Murphy’s dad gave him one piece of football advice “Son never drop a chest mark!” I think there is lack of intent in Marra too dropping simple chest marks. Him and English were equally bad.
