Top 5 Midfields 2024

Essendon must be climbing the rankings close to top 5 now. Great depth with some real blossoming players this year.

Full strength GWS is very good still but I can’t remember a string of game where they had Coniglio Green Kelly Callaghan Ward all playing.

Depends on what Caldwell’s baseline is. He’s in excellent form atm hopefully he can keep it up.

Or because it’s freo
Darcy bnf AA squad
Jackson rising star AA squad
Serong bnf AA
Brayshaw bnf mvp
Young pick 7 gun
Fyfe bnf 2x Brownlow
2 top 10 picks in Erasmus and Brodie can’t even get a look in
It's good, but most teams have great top liners...even look at North.

Your names are good, but so are the others.

Been a rotating door this year … frustrating as all ****

freo have to be getting close to a top 5 midfield.
A few scores from clearances for those playing at home

I would go further and suggest you have close to the best midfield in the comp behind the Swans.

By far the best clearance differential of any side in the comp.

+8.5

Next best is Brisbane with +3

Equal second for hardball gets
3rd for ground ball gets.
Top 5 for contested possession and metres gained.

Add some break-away pace (Warner) and you’re the best
It's definitely the biggest thing holding it back, that explosive bloke who bursts out the front. I'd love a proper coach breakdown of why our clearance differential doesnt translate to clearance scores. Has to be something in how both Freo and our opposition set up, or just not enough raw power. If we ever get Warner in there...

Would definitely take the Freo midfield over the Pies midfield.
Pies shouldn’t be in there top 8 over Freo, from the poster earlier.
Pies midfield is now diabolical whilst De Goey is injured and Pendles is basically done. Its N Daicos or bust.

Cats midfield now propped up by a 46 year old Dangerfield, and a 32 year old backman in Tom Stewart. They have no chance of getting anywhere this year relying on those two. They are more likely to be injured by finals time

Not enough talk about the Tigers in this thread. We have...thinking, thinking...hmmm who do we have these days??

I'll see myself out.
Hmmm best in the comp tbh…
The ever reliable Dion Prestia.
The steal of a trade Tim Taranto.
Superstar of the comp Jacob Hopper.
The GOAT Thomson Dow.
Shaun Burgoyne who? Liam Baker > aka Mr fix it.
Who can forget Jack Ross and Marlion Pickett.

Hawks midfield far inferior to Gold Coast:

HAW: Day/Worpel/Newcombe/Nash
GC: Anderson/Flanders/Miller/Rowell

I'd drop Port down to 7 or 8. Its great and young, but reckon it underperforms relative to expectation. They way they rolled over against Brisbane earlier this year was awful.

Maybe on paper but our total clearance differential (Gold Coast have us beat on centre clearances, we beat them on stoppage), contested possession, hardball and groundball differential is superior to the Gold Coast.

Teams are the sum of their parts not just the individuals.
