* This list should be made about players that have played their best footy in these years. EG) Voss would not be in contention as he played his best years prior.

How do you suggest he won back to back AFLPA MVP awards in 2002 and 2003???

The first player to do so, before Ablett equalled this magnificent achievment.

* This list should be made about players that have played their best footy in these years. EG) Voss would not be in contention as he played his best years prior.

1. Chris Judd. 2003 - Present. No explanation required.
2. Nathan Buckley. 2000 -2005 (Not at no.1 because alot of his good football was also prior)
3. 5. Scott West. Top 5 finisher in Brownlow about 4 times during these years. People may forget just how consistently good hes been.
4. Ben Cousins. Consistent throughout with a few stand out years.
5. Adam Goodes. 2 Brownlows out of the 8 years in question.
6. Jonothan Brown. His last 5 years have been at the top of the comp each year.
7. Nick Riewoldt. Been a star since his second year. Top 2 CHF's every year for 6 years now.
8. Gary Ablett Jnr. Been the dominant player in 2 of the 9 years played this century. Deserving of a spot.
9. Jason Akermanis - His best football in his brownlow year and the premiership years of Lions were some of the best football this century has seen.
10. Matthew Pavlich. Carried Freo for 7 years now. This year will be his 6th All Australian honour in the 9 years of this century.

** Hird was not named as alot of his best football was also prior. Gave some other blokes a chance.

No Black, Voss, Hird, Lloyd or Cox, try again champ.

I don't really want to get into another pro Tredrea rant, but he was the best player in the league in the hardest position in the game for 5 years. 4 AA guernseys, a Premiership captain and a Leigh Matthews medal. If it wasn't for injuries he'd still be tearing up the league.
What is the Leigh Matthews medal awarded for?

1. Ben Cousins
2. Michael Voss
3. James Hird
4. Chris Judd
5. Simon Black
6. Warren Tredrea
7. Nathan Buckley
8. Mark Ricciuto
9. Matthew Lloyd
10. Andrew McLeod

Unlucky: Goodes, West, Kerr, Pavlich, Cox

To the OP when you say Hird and Voss played alot of their better football prior to the 2000's I can understand you leaving them out. But their level of performance performed in the 2000's in still better than guys like West, Akermanis, Goodes, Brown and Riewoldt.

1. Ben Cousins - Surely 6 time All Australian, 05 Brownlow, 4 time best at fairest 2001-03 and 05, Club Captain, Premiership Player, AFL Players MVP 2005

2. Chris Judd - Has been a star from debut

3. Jonathan Brown - Fearless player with outstanding courage

4. M. Riccuto - Great leader

5. M. Voss - Name says it all

6. D. Cox - Surely the most dominant ruckman

7. A.Goodes - 2 brownlow, premiership, All Australian, and B&F great player

8. Simon Black - Suprise no one mentioned him, a great player esp in the preimiership years

9. M. Lyod - Not the player he was before but in earlier years of 2000 he was unbeatable

10. Matthew Pavlich - A great player has been super consistent and a standout in a team that has struggled.

Going into the Brownlow in 2004 Tredrea was the favourite & had won a number of other awards for best player that season, and he backed up the following year in 2005 with 80 odd goals i think.
If people didn't watch footy prior to the last 2/3 seasons they should not make comments on how good a player was.

1. Ben Cousins. self explanatory really
2. James Hird. The best "match winner" and was consistent even till his last match
3. Michael Voss. Absolute star.
4. Chris Judd. Has the ability to tear a match open and is just freaky.
5. Adam Goodes. Super consistent. Two brownlows.
6. Matthew Lloyd. Kicked 646 goals since 2000 which I believe is the highest.
7. Simon Black. Pure gun in the Brisbane 3-peat.
8. Nathan Buckley. Super consistent.
9. Warren Treadrea. On his day he was probably the best CHF of 00's.
10. Johnathon Brown. Probably 2nd best CHF of the 00's.

FWIW Lloyd AND Treadrea should easily be in the top 5 for best players this decade.

Especially Lloyd who despite suffering an almost career ending injury has managed two 60+ goal seasons since.

1. Ben Cousins
2. Matthew Lloyd
3. Chris Judd
4. Simon Black
5. Warren Tredrea
6. Adam Goodes
7. Nathan Buckley
7. Mark Ricciuto
9. Michael Voss
10. James Hird

Unlucky - Matthew Pavlich; Nick Riewoldt; Scott West
