List Mgmt. Trade: Allen Christensen traded to Brisbane in exchange for National Draft selection no. 21

Pick 21, **** me that is pathetic. Stand up Geelong, don't bend over and take it.

We're losing one of our best midfielders. I'd be telling Bundy to look at other options, like west coast, I'd tell him pick 21 is not good enough so in the best interest of the club please nominate some other clubs so we can get the best deal possible.

Comedy stuff atm at catland.

Probably sounds a bit hollow to a lot of our fans right now, but as we'll probably never know the full story, I s'pose we'll have to accept on face value that Bundy is in a shady place mentally and needs to get outta town.

Plenty of people keen to 'send a message' by making him go to the PSD, personally I think that's a pointless approach; we get zero compensation in an effort to enforce a hollow 'principal'.

I suspect the club recognizes the parallels to the Mitch Clark situation; the AFL is big on supporting mental health issues (and every other social issue, really) so I don't think it would have been looked upon kindly had the club forced the hand of a guy who by all reports is struggling big time at the moment.

I'm not happy that Bundy's gone, he was one of my favourite Cats to watch, and seemed as though he were a good fella.

But I don't see the point in being overly sanctimonious and emotional; we've lost plenty of good players in the past, it always sucks but the club always still manages to turn out a team the following season.

It sounds as though this situation has been brewing for months, and the club has clearly been unable to get him back on board.

I do think the club should have demanded further compensation from the Lions, that's where they've failed their fans.

We'd better seal this Clark deal.
It also sends a clear message to other clubs when we negotiate with them in the future. It forces them to give up something more if they know we don't care about sending a player to the PSD. Its called driving a hard bargain - haggling. Something the club isn't interested in. To them good negotiation means being nice in the hope others will be nice back. Maybe I'm a bit old school.
I know I know, player welfare blah blah blah.

Yeah I agree. Club would have done all it could to keep him. But if had made his mind up we couldn't do much about it besides handcuffing him to the fence at the ground.

If the club only knew a few days ago he was leaving he has stuffed us right up. Less time to find a player to replace him, missed the bus on Frawley and others where we may have been able to throw more money at them.

Not happy.
Greenwood for example.

You made a back and white statement. Then you changed it to suit your needs.

Standard.

You make personal judgements because you can't handle the arguments.

Idiotic.

How on earth would you know what conversations have and haven't taken place?

I don't, but from what I have read Balme's made a statement that IF pick 21 was offered we would take it - the implication being that they had not yet had discussions. If they have had discussions then my frustration with Balme would then be that he did not make this clear in his press interview.

Last few years pick 21-

2013- Jarman Impey (Port)
2012- Nathan Hrovat (Dogs)
2011- Tom Mitchell F/S (swans) Obviously he would be worth more on open market, so Pick 22 was Bootsma...
2010- Jed Lamb (swans)

All decent enough players, but none in the same class as Christensen. How depressing, I'm moving to Darwin to escape this reality...

None of those clubs had Stephen Wells recruiting for them.

I find it hilarious. I love watching the supporters who think everything the club does is perfect being introduced to Planet Earth.

It's fun. :)
Then there's those who think everything the club does is wrong. Two sides to the coin Champ!

SO fight to the end to get the same result, or even worse, not allowing us any time for possible replacements or strategy changes?

Fighting to the end allows the chance of their being a better result, and yes - it is worth it.

By fighting, they don't have to spend 12 hours a day entirely focused on this. They simply say to Lions "Thanks, but unfortunately 21 will not be accepted. In the interim we are working with other clubs and have advised Allen that he is to pick a few back up options. Please give us a call if/when you have improved your offer and we will be willing to listen"

Then focus on other deals, speak to other clubs, and something may pop up, Bundy may be reasobnably comfortable with something else - you never know.

Instead - Balme (who has shown a sheer lack of understanding when it comes to draft picks values) hands bundy to them on a platter, when there is plenty of time left, without trying to get a better result.

This is why Geelong fans are filthy.

Brisbane list manager just said that they are well done the track with Geelong, based on pick 21, to get it done. Based on his statement, fair to say that Balmey saying 21 for Bundy on trade radio earlier was not something that has just come up. Well into the deal when he said that...

They are doing some due diligence and it will go thru.

Go Catters

Well, if anyone wanted an example of Geelong getting bent over the trade table, this is a good one.
Get a notepad. You got a pen ready. Write this down.

OUT OF CONTRACT!

Using the players drafted from a pick to find that pick's worth in a draft is a futile exercise. Christensen was drafted at pick 40. How many good players have been drafted from there? Billie Smedts was pick 15. How good is he?
