Balme may be a good footy operations manager, but he has no bloody clue when it comes to trades (or negotiation).

NO BLOODY CLUE

Last year, he said they may need to change how they approach things, but NOTHING has changed!

Shocking list management Balme. Terrible.

We cannot rely on Wells saving our asses every time, and we have now considerably set ourselves back.

NO OTHER TEAM ARE AS BAD AS US AT NEGOTIATING TRADES

I would argue something quite demonstrably changed; Balme went from being a person who said we never discuss arrangements until the deal is done to openly announcing in a public forum what pick we would accept for a player looking for a trade.

Seems like a fairly dramatic change to me.

And not for the better.

Whether you like/accept pick 21 for Bundy or not, the fact that we're conducting 'negotiations' with potential destination clubs over Trade Radio has me utterly bemused.

Christensen gone for 21. That's what the records say. It's poor list management or it's poor trading. You can decide which.
option c: none of the above. He was offered a contract, indicated he'd accept said contract then reneged (at the last minute no less), what do you expect apart from chaining him to the desk. C'mon trade guru what would you have done??

Fighting to the end allows the chance of their being a better result, and yes - it is worth it.

By fighting, they don't have to spend 12 hours a day entirely focused on this. They simply say to Lions "Thanks, but unfortunately 21 will not be accepted. In the interim we are working with other clubs and have advised Allen that he is to pick a few back up options. Please give us a call if/when you have improved your offer and we will be willing to listen"

Then focus on other deals, speak to other clubs, and something may pop up, Bundy may be reasobnably comfortable with something else - you never know.

Instead - Balme (who has shown a sheer lack of understanding when it comes to draft picks values) hands bundy to them on a platter, when there is plenty of time left, without trying to get a better result.

This is why Geelong fans are filthy.

You do understand by doing that you stand a big chance of getting nothing for him? Or they give away that pick and are left with a worse one to give us? Or its left until the last day and he goes for that same pick, giving us no time to get in a replacement? So many experts here, wasted on BF.

We aren't getting 'bent over' as hard as everyone is saying considering the Lions are giving us 21 even though it could have been used with 5 for Beams. If we were really that soft we would have just taken 25, clearly we must have made a stand and said we want 21 and not 25.

Too many STUPID comments from Too many people who i thought knew a little about Free Agency and Gen Y...
I was right ...they do know little about BOTH it seems.....
Get a grip peoples... It's the Business of Football... You Win some... You lose some... and then you break even...
Squabbling over Pick 21 over a Pick 15... and trivial shyte is quite embarrassing when u look at the big picture...
You get the best you can and MOVE ON.... life didn't stop when Gary Jnr left... so stop claiming that the sky is falling for at least a minute...
And take a breath...
Rabbit SEASON ???
NO... REBUILDING SEASON....

Pick 21 is a fair price for Bundy. The more I think about it, the more I think 99% of people in this thread are significantly overvaluing him.

Yes, I know this is somewhat of a backflip from my position of yesterday. Intelligent, rational people are capable of changing their mind when they have time to consider their position.

Wow, how nice of them. A pick four places up.

******* kills hearing Wallace describe what a massive win getting Christensen is for Brisbane.

Yeah in one breath they say it's a "massive win" for Brisbane, but then they say Geelong losing him for a few extra places is "nothing to even worry about" o_O

Clayton is one hell of a list manager, so if he says the club isn't interested in Christensen to begin with, then I'd say you're right.
Brisbane now reported to be doing their due diligence, i.e., medical

You honestly think he just pulled that out and the Lions heard it and said "oh boy, is that true??? Quick, sign him up". The pick would clearly have already been agreed on by then.

So do you think we have handled this situation well?

Fine. So why not say 'deal done'?

Could have just said that's what they offered and we will accept it. Instead made it sound like we were waiting for an offer and wouldn't mind the Lions knowing just what might be 'acceptable'.

Anyway, I'm burned by the whole situation so feeling cool, calm and collected about how Balme handled it is not in my repertoire just yet.
