List Mgmt. Trade: Allen Christensen traded to Brisbane in exchange for National Draft selection no. 21

Anyone who thinks 21 for Christensen is a good deal or 'decent' are absolutely kidding themselves.

It's a terrible deal.

And yes, he was uncontracted I know but it is still a deal where we received way unders for an uncontracted player. Open market contracted, Christensen is worth pick 9-11. Whilst uncontracted, a deal where we have to bend over would be pick 15 or 2 early second round picks eg 21+ 25). Orourke netting gws better compensation is one example that shows how shafted we got in terms of value.

End if the day we got shafted for 2 reasons:

1 - bundy chose 1 club in isolation, which happened to be a club with hands already tied in another deal lowering its currency.

2 - we are terribly soft traders that accommodate players rather than negotiate to a level that would be reasonable in the context of a competitive sporting club. (Note I don't mind is doing this for club champions eg king or chappy, but when the player has f***** us over, I don't see why).

End if the day we get soft compensation (not a decent one), and we have to deal with it and move on and hope wells grabs a great player. If wells picks up a Mitch brown or a gillies this trade will look quite embarrassing in the future.. But we have to hope for the best.

Players that will be around 21 that I hope we short list are:

Blakely
Garlett
Marchbank (if we miss Goddard at 14)
Cockatoo

Weller and Goddard are the ones I like at 14.

I thought 73 was for Blitz….

55 for Newton if BF "inside info" is correct…..

We automatically upgrade blitz with our last pick, can be pick 120 if we want.

I expect us to trade 55 for either newton or a depth ruck and take only 3 draft picks-14 21 and 35.

Petracca, mccartin, lever, brayshaw, write, durdin, Pickett, laverde.

The next group of Goddard, marchbank, de goey, ahern, weller, cockatoo will be 9-14 IMO.

I'll give you a tip, even if anyone of those are available by the time 21 comes along, Stephen Wells is going to pick someone no one had the slightest clue about. Even the commentators will be a little stumped and there will be a few on here who'll cry "I'M SICK OF THIS SHIT!"

perhaps it's not about going left field though?
People were carrying on that we didn't take Grundy and look at how mediocre he is turning out to be. A few from that draft were brought up by people but they have somewhat showed promising signs but not gone on with it while Thurlow looks like he's ready to become a solid contributor next year.

I think the same can be said with Lang, he was injured most of his first season but we probably see why we gambled on him when many others would not.

So you think THunt will stay?

They will want him to stay now but i think he wants to go.

Assuming we take three picks and christensen and varcoe goes and clark and blitz come in then we need to move on one more player if we trade anyone else in.

I would say either hunt or brown goes and the other stays.

I hope that the Geelong board had a long talk about this situation and hopefully Monday, we demand pick 21 & 25 for Bundy.

They will trade 5 and 25 for beams. No chance

Don't need the tip.

Fully expect what you described above to occur - and yes there will be a few who cry out, but they might end up being justified.

We will recieve 21 tomorrow and nothing more.
And just to add a bit of salt, we will have to stomach Brisbane "unveiling" him in a Lions polo. Smiling.

Grundy had the second year blues but he has still shown way more than Thurlow.

I think anyone who (in hindsight) still picking Thurlow over Grundy is wearing the Geelong goggles i bit too tight. Thurlow looks like he has the skill set to become a player, and might become as good as someone like Mackie one day.. but Grundy was brilliant in his first year and is a ruck - meaning he wont start taking big strides until he is 24 or so.

Likewise Lang Vs Dunstan. Lang may be the better choice in the long run, but Dunstan is still way ahead.

Not criticising Wells, Lang and Thurlow will be most likely be players for us (and are already better than some other choices that went before them). But in these examples (where it appeared that he 'reached'), lets not jump the gun too early. The ones that were expected to go at our pick like Grundy and Dunstan are still ahead of the ones we reached for...

What are the chances Bundy could potentially be of limited assistance to us anyway in 2015....the chances are big.

The fact is he's uncontracted and we weren't going to get a top 10 pick if you couple in his severe off field issues. This is the reason we're not too fussed with pick 21.

I'm not sure why it's so hard for people to fathom.
He's also had a hip operation as well as 2 back surgeries hasn't he?
Its only because he's not fit enough though, well it looks like it to me anyway. If he's happier at Brisbane, he will get his body in better shape so he wont miss many games.
Still think its poor management from Balme. Always seems a little over confident to me.

shown way more yes but looks a bloody average player at best. Runs like he has a pole stuck up his arse and only kicked 4 career goals in 22 games.

and couldn't make top 22 in a very ordinary Collingwood side.
