Still not understanding the issue of Treloars back ended contract. He has 5 years to run currently, so it’s not like he’s had his lean years with us already and has 1-2 years on mega coin. If his contract averages @$700k~ over the course, surely he’d be happy for any club he potentially lands at to structure the deal however they see fit?

I think you’re over-rating our list.

We DO have a Premiership-worthy back line but we lack:
* An A-grade FF
* An A-grade CHF
* Two A-grade Wings (but Daicos stepped-up)
* crumbing goal-sneak forwards
* Foot speed through the middle of the ground
* Connection between our dominant ruck and the midfielders around him
* A-grade assistant coaches

Pfft, what team has 18 A grade players? We have plenty and a few potential ones too.

A grade: Grundy, Pendles, DeGoey, Adams, Treloar, Crisp, Howe, Maynard, Moore and Sidebottom

Potential: Stephenson, Quaynor, Daicos

There would be few other teams with that kind of top end talent

Yep its our lower level players that don't rate as well so if we can bring in some decent role players to plug holes look out.

I'd be happy enough with three years at $400k + a fourth trigger-based year at $300k (ie. your 1.5 mil over 4 years). Probably the maximum he could expect without having to relocate elsewhere and there'd have be some performance based bonus triggers in there (not significant - maybe 15-20% of the overall total)

I'd be happy to go to $1.7-1.8m over 4 years. From memory, the AFL average is about $380k and I think he's above average and deserving of being remunerated as such.

Agree with this but I wouldn't be surprised if GCS or even Brisbane - even if they have room to fit him in their cap in whichever way they please - say "you've got him signed on this ridiculous contract, we're not throwing in pick Y or player Z" 🤷‍♂️

Not injured, I’d add Langers into that A grade mix. Where do you fit Eliott in?

And there’s still potential we pay part salary like we did for Heater and Dees did for Woewodin. Clubs do it all over the place.

Would love Ed Richards from the Dogs but really doubt he's gettable.. he seemed to have a bit of a down year but he's probably ready for some midfield time and he's behind a few top-notchers at the Dogs.

he brings some badly needed speed into the mix

Agree. Why couldn’t we also see if we can smooth it out with him again if he stays?

Or If we can’t land any big names this year front load it (Jack Martin style) and tail it off at the end. Paying him more next year might mean he’d be less likely to disappear to Qld during the year.

The main difference between the saints and us in '90GF is our bottom 6 were markedly better than theirs.

Absolutely.

Let's assume he does make somewhere near $900k in 2025... which, for the record, I think is clickbait wank in a desperate attempt to keep this narrative alive.

He has most likely been asked to significantly back-end that deal so there is more flexibility to engineer deals for JDG/Moore in the short term.

Are we to crucify him now because he's structured his deal to assist us?

I think see why Michocek is asking for the moon. He's been on a rookie list deal for the past 3 seasons and has grossly outperformed that rookie contract given to him. Its justified that he should be rewarded in his next contract.
Being on the rookie list and being paid a rookie salary is not what happen to michocek. His contract was upgraded, but left there because 80k is not counted against the cap

I'm throwing a figure out there based on the anticipated cuts in TPP leading up to the new CBA in 2022. $1.8 mil over four will likely scale down to $1.5 mil over four years.

I havent seen much of shache - is he like jack watts?

i get the impression that such players can be decent role players if they play to their strengths, ie. as an outside flanker who can kick well into the forward line.

Obviously they look crap when they are made to be things they arent, such as physical KPs.

But by some reports he is not even up to that?
He makes Watts look like dermie.

Richmond have a competitive physical ruck like D.Jolly was. You don't need the best ruck in the game you just need one who likes to hit bodies be competitive (neutralise their rucks tap work) and be physical.

Its soft non competitive unphysical rucks that kill you ie Richards Fanning Wood etc.

I think you do it to undersell the role of genuine good KPFs have on the game.

It's only one area of concern for us anyway imo we have a range of holes need fixing.

Richmond have 2 very good KPF's and Saturday it's likely only Rohan, Rioli, and Vlastuin had less impact across the 1st 3 quarters of the game Saturday night. Even in the last quarter when they got the majority of their possessions it's arguable whether they were up to their normal standards. I understand what you're saying and I'd certainly love a gun CHF and/or FF, but I think they aren't that dissimilar to how you describe rucks. The A-grade F50 talent doesn't necessarily have to be the 2x KPF's.

What if the player is an overpaid 2MP?

Thought Richards looked pretty shaky this year when I watched him. Played a lot of footy and still young, but would people mention a small flanker with middle of the road disposal if it wasn't for his name?
Too much romanticism involved for some. Some people here still want Jake Kelly to come and play for us.
