Agree. I think this year is likely to be a one year slump, and we should be decent next year. But the difficult thing is going to be when our current core starts falling off a cliff in a few years time and the kids we got last year and over the next couple are still developing. We're going to have to do well to avoid a few years of awfulness then. I like the targetting of Lipinski and Kreuger for that reason - not necessarily the players, as I don't know much about them, but the age. I think we'll need to add a couple more in that age group each year for the next couple of years - hopefully we get lucky with some quality ones.

So you think we will be rebuilding again in 5 years then...basically a lost in the wilderness team.

Compete meander around the 8 for a few seasons maybe a finaln or 2 then shit the bed as the cows come home to roost effective screwing over Moore, degoey, Adams, Maynard and grundys career but also likely screwing this recent few years draft crops too as they will be 30 by the time the rebuilding of the half rebuild happens.

Short cut rebuilds ...sigh not sure why people are so keen for them when they are RARELY proven way to work well or be sustainable.

I honestly can't believe people are so short sighted that they need the team to have immediate half success with regards to win loss ( we are not flag a threat dont even kid yourselves) that they are willing to weaken the side long term to see it.

I agree....do it right the first time.
Measure twice, cut once.

So if a trade does not occur because Collingwood play hard ball on the moderate ask of a future 3rd... he won’t then consider his options?

NM then ring his manager... promise the same deal but an extra 50-75k... he won’t consider his options?
These things don’t just happen last minute, Collingwood would have been showing interest in him all year. There’s nothing to suggest that North are suddenly going to gain an interest in him and offer him a contract $50k - $75k more than what he’s already agreed to with us. It just wouldn’t make any sense. Where was North’s interest up until now?

As for a trade not occurring, well he has an agent for a reason, and that’s not to avail himself of only half the options open to him. The PSD has been around a long time and we have the second pick.

North Melbourne simply won’t cut our lunch. Lipinski is not Nick Stevens. In the current COVID environment, at a time when players have more power than ever, North are not going to risk bad press associated with forcing a player to play for them who doesn’t want to, when he’s trying to get out of his current club for lack of opportunity.

“Why did you derail his plans to go to the club of his choice to further his career when the clubs involved couldn’t agree on a trade?”

“Well, he was a former second round pick plying his trade in the VFL, we couldn’t let an opportunity like that slide!”

Lipinksi yes but Kreuger has not Pubically asked to be Traded to us yet
Mate, Wright has already said he’s had discussions with the Cats about him. That’s about as much confirmation as you need…

What are the Degoey rumours?
Nothing outside the never ending ‘how are they going to fit them all in the cap’ BS we’ve been hearing for years.

I’ve heard of clubs doing their homework on players a couple of years out. Not implying Nth comes last moment but agreeing with you with not likely.

Question: With the negotiation with Bulldogs over Lipinksi, is there any possibility of including salary cap as part of that trade? (ie: effectively undoing part payment of Treloar’s contract?). Or is that simply not possible because Lipinski is an uncontracted player, so there’s no part of a future contract for Bulldogs to pay out?

They don't have a late draft pick to give us this year. Their points carrying picks right now are 17 and 72, so they are currently in a much tighter spot in terms of matching an early bid on Darcy than we are matching an early bid on Daicos.
Cheers, but I was only joking about getting a draft pick as well as The Lip.

Probably worth more than Sier.
Played over 50 games. Only got pushed out by a top midfield.
Sier couldn't even break into a bottom 4 midfield. Even when Pendles got injured.

I'l see your 50 games Young Jen and raise you ,Sier has played in a grand final and named in the best players ,both players are stagnating at their prospective clubs and are fringe players of equal value I believe

It depends on salary cap. I think if we could afford to spend big on a couple of quality mids, we could get ourselves to the pointy end immediately. But it seems our cap is too restrained and we'll have to do it through the draft, which is slow. Unless the cap opens up, it'll be a wait for us to have the quality peak age mids you need for a genuine tilt. I don't think you can win without an excellent midfield and that means either a long wait for kids to mature or it means spending on mature recruits.

I think that's the most likely, but Daicos might be a Selwood or Judd who delivers from day 1, JDG might hit an awesome level and a couple of other things go right and we might suddenly do a 2018 and come from nowhere.

Edmund and Looney are still going on about our pick swap for pick 1 this year calling it a nightmare.
We did what every club would do with a father-son in the wings otherwise it would be lost in the bid.
Got 3 picks in last years draft which were 24, 30 and a future 4th.
Used 24 for the McInnes bid, 30 for Poulter and used the future 4th for a pick swap with Brisbane. Not too shabby.
What don't they understand?

Was a disaster never had to trade it, lazy move that got supporters forgetting about the terrible trade period, could have gone into this year with pick 2 and a stack of room to move.

Can we get Begg's name right please

google Beeg and see where the first link takes you...

Yep I learned the hard way.

Lipinski appears to have a degree of polish well above what Sier has, especially with his disposal on his non-preferred side.

Sier probably has a bit more power in his game and his running, while Lipinski looks more like your smooth moving player who disposes of the ball a bit better overall (and is obviously a lot fitter).
Yep Lipinski polish and Sier nail polish

"had first baby, wants to be closer to (partner's) family" thing
Unless I misread it, one family is in Adelaide, the other is in Brisbane but they're happy to come to Melbourne because they've lived here before??
Transalated, would somebody - anybody please take him off our hands!!

3. COLLINGWOOD

Right now, the Magpies’ trade period plans almost don’t make sense.

Their No.1 priority is getting in draft picks (and thus points) to match a bid for father-son gun Nick Daicos, which is expected to come in the top few picks. With selections 36, 39, 41 and 45 in hand, Craig McRae’s side probably needs another second-round pick to be guaranteed of matching the bid successfully - or else they’ll go into draft deficit, and ruin what could be a juicy 2022 first-round pick.

But they’ve also been linked to multiple moves; Geelong’s Nathan Kreuger won’t be too pricey (maybe he gets there via the pre-season draft?), but the Western Bulldogs’ Patrick Lipinski is surely worth a second-round pick. We’re sure you can do the maths here - how are they going to bring in the second-round pick they need while also trading one out?

Remember, the Magpies don’t have their own first round pick, which ended up being Pick 2 - they traded it away to GWS last year, trying to secure 2020 picks and points. Sure, they got some nice players in the 20s and 30s, but jeez trading away Pick 2 still hurts.

They could earn a few picks by trading some fringe players out, but it’s unclear what (if anything) they’d gain from losing guys like Mason Cox, Brayden Sier and Max Lynch. The latter seems the most likely to stay.

And that’s all without worrying about 2022, when they need to pay Darcy Moore and Jordan De Goey; has their salary cap calamity cleared up enough for them to give both players what they want?

Look, they could just accept they’re going to have to be in draft deficit, even if that means pushing back their 2022 first-round pick a few places. Daicos seems pretty damn good and is probably worth that.

But it looks like the left hand needs to do one thing, and the right hand is keen to do another. They wouldn’t want to drop the ball.

Is this another Jon Ralph Pies hating piece?

See the problem here is your completely wrong. The only way in which they are worth the same is your pure and simple Collingwood bias. One couldn't keep a spot in perhaps the worst midfield in the league. The other played double digit games in the best. Sier is a good chance to get delisted (personally I'd keep him).

What are the Degoey rumours?

No rumours.

Happy with Collingwood loves the new coach as all the guys do.

Loved Bucks was just over him and how demanding he was nothing was good enough.

Building a new house atm and seems be pretty content.

The money has to be right because he is open to moving and living a quiet life in NSW/QLD went to boxing recently and couldn't believe how he walked around Sydney not being noticed.

Unfortunately we really can't lose any of Moore/JDG/Maynard they are in an age bracket we lack and hopefully in 4 years where back contending and if we are it will be because of these 3 Crisp Grundy Adams.

Lose 2/3 of those and you can almost put us back another year or 2.

You know I don’t want to lose them but also don’t want our Salary cap to be hamstrung by 3-4 players

If we lose 3-4 of the well known stars, then we have a very strong draft hand, especially if we bottom out for a year or two.

I’m ok with that.

Must admit I barely listened to Trade Radio on Monday or Tuesday, but giving it a run today. The Dal Santo and Goddard segment is bloody painful.

They knew it'd be a week of discussion about nothing (before trades open) but seemingly have no real structure about what they're talking about.

It's unfortunate they don't have one proper journalist on each segment, and at least one interview lined up per segment, with list managers, player agents or even draft prospects.

You'd only need about 4 interviews a day and you could just hype the absolute sh*t out of it even if it wasn't going to be fruitful at all.

They used to have an agents hour but they've gone away from that. They could do with a draft watch segment IMO to break it up a bit.

Hutchy is taking the piss.
Bad enough Goddard's nickname is BJ but when Nick Dal Santo abbreviates it to BEEEEEJ I want to kill him

Maynard saying he is going No Where.

De Goey is the only 1 heard nothing about

Take Twitter Rumors with a Grain of Salt unless coming from a Known Account
I’d be very surprised if JDG was on the table. McRae will want to build our midfield around him. Reckon he will explode under new coaching team.
