I would like us to go after Setterfield and we can get Tyson to. Helps GWS with their salary cap relief especially if we pick up Finlayson and/or others and we can draft others as well.

Some of these new trade additions we can give them back loaded contracts to help ease the salary cap relief helped by retirements and others leaving in a few years time
Like the idea of Setterfield but can't see it happening. What's with Finlayson? Where would he fit in our team? I believe a complete waste of a spot.

Scully is wanting to come here. Loves the club and wants to realise his dream of playing for his favourite club.

Up to us to be able to accomodate.

Lynch will be on 5m over 6 years. Roughlt 850k per year.

Cotch, Rance and Jack toom a 500k paycut between them.

Outs:

Miles 300k
C. Ellis 200k
Lloyd 300k
Conca 250k
Townsend 200k
Stengle 120k.
Drummond 100k.
Chol 100k
Soldo 100k

That is 1.67m. Add on the 500k from the three pay cuts takes it to about 2.2
Minus 850 from Lynch takes it down to 1.37m.

Minus resignings takes of another say, 600k.

We have another 700k to play with minus whatever cap space we had left before signing and delisting.

We COULD fit Scully in with a little shuffling.
Is that a joke lol - Minus 850 from Lynch? GCS would match in a heart beat if they believe they'll get more than pick 3. Blues want McGovern, while wouldn't they throw pick 1 for Lynch in trade week instead and get one of Suns later picks in return. I honestly believe Suns could play hard ball. Let's hope not.

I think we will slide next year.
I would not agree, I think we will dominate next year like this year.Lynch improves the team by 2 goals a game, we just need to land another big fish like Scully, and an extra ruckman .Rioli, Graham, Butler ,Higgins will get better.Bolton, Markov, Balta ,Garthwaite, Baker, Markov and Naish could all step up.

Pick 17 and Astbury for Scully would nearly get the deal done.Play Garthwaite and play Moore as a defender in the VFL
Your throwing up a number of scenarios and without sounding like a p*@#k, they are all horrible, no offence. Why get rid of Astbury when we've had a couple fantastic years of him and he's still in his prime. Then move on pick 17 but where do you expect us to find our real need which is inside mids. That's all we should really be considering at this stage.

Do you understand free agency? The player has the power to leave and go to the club of their choice. Lynch does not want to go to Carlton and he does not want to stay at GC. So they either accept pick 3 or he threatens to go to the draft and GC get nothing for him.The only reason to match is if you could force a trade. If we had pick 1 they would have done that to force us to give them that and possibly next years first pick. But we can't give them anything remotely close to pick 3 and so they will accept it.

Get it?

Completely get free agency pal. Suns could play hard ball tbh. GCS can trade with any other club. It will be up to Lynch and his manager to agree to that club. Blues was an example in my previous post. Suns would be respect by playing hard...it's just an opnion. This is what forums are for.

The deals done. Believe me. GC won't be matching. It was done a while ago. Don't believe the rhetoric about making his decision recently. Even Gillon said the other day that GC won't get a PP because they'll be getting pick 3 for Lynch. Nobody picked him up on that.....

If we can go hard at Hopper and grab Tyson for close to nothing then that's what we should do. Dom will come cheap and Hopper is an inside/contested beast. Would be a decade superstar. All year, I haven't wanted someone more then Hopper as I believe getting him is realistic.
Hopper is under contract. We can go as hard as we like. GWS don't have to do anything but hold him to his contract. He can't even use the go home factor because he's from up that way.

You have to give something to get something.I don't think we'll lose much playing Garthwaite there.I like Astbury, but I think Rance and Grimes make him look good at times.Scully plays inside and outside. There's no other insider mids available at the moment.

Well Astbury will not be around for ever and we need the new crop after Rance and Grimes. I do not think Finlayson is that bad its just an area GWS is strong in atm so they are shopping him around to reduce cap.

We do not have a lot of defensive backup do we? Only Garhwaite. What if one of our defenders goes done? Can Finlayson play elsewhere?

I'd give pick 16 for Setterfield. Big bodied inside mid. Anyone else agree?

A lot of talent but also a lot of injuries as a junior and in his two years at GWS

Have you followed trade period ever? Players always get where they want and the closest a team has come to matching is Dangerfield because Geelong had a higher pick than the potential compo.

Is Scully just a rumour or what.... a lot of names being thrown around
Where’s micro to clear it up??
GWS list manager denied it this morning. He said Scully was under contract and wasn't leaving. However, if Scully really wants to come home and really wants to leave he maybe able to force their hand. He'd have to initiate the desire though.

The trouble is GWS salary cap, in terms of priorities who do they prefer to let go? Obviously I think letting Lobb go is a smart move for them. After that it becomes a little problematic. Do they let go Shiel and lose gun appeal or let a lessor lite go.

Do they let go a Scully who is older and less likely to stick later anyway? Do they let a Setterfield go and a Finlayson where the later is deemed excess.

The trouble for them is in a few years a number might depart so which ones should they keep? Even if we can't get a Shiel should we help another club get him if it suits us? Eg. Should we take Dunkley if it helps Bulldogs get Shiel?

Who are the players on big money at GWS and how does GWS want to reduce it. Which players want to stick fat? Which want to go and will go eventually in time?? What is the best way GWS keeps the best part of its list together and stays strong?

Sorry, just a question without notice - for all these players who will be leaving us, do we receive any compensation/picks for any of them?

All these changes will definitely force us to either be extremely proactive on the trade table and/or draft. A fantastic way to ensure we have an eye on the future even when we are so successful in the present.

No compensation. We will receive picks for Miles, Lloyd and Ellis and possibly Stengle though.

Yes they could however there’ are few propositions that would exceed the value of pick 3, no one would offer 2 x r1 for lynch , nor would they offer a top 20 ranked player in the league as a swap, that’s the scope required to exceed pick 3 . Having two successive picks places them in a very strong and enviable position

Compensation is always based on a net loss. Given we signed Lynch, we'd need to lose a collective amount greater than Lynch to get any compo, which won't happen. We can still trade though. Players like Conca as an unrestricted free agent have no reason to be traded, however. Clubs can just sign them for free.

This same net loss rule is why GCS won't sign any free agents. If they get pick 3 for losing lynch, but then sign a good FA, that pick will drop to a second or third rounder possibly.
